The Office Fame Craig Robinson Quits Comedy To Pursue ‘Something Bigger'
Craig Robinson, best known for his beloved role as Darryl Philbin in The Office, has announced that he's stepping away from the world of comedy to pursue what he calls a 'bigger calling." In a video posted to Instagram, the 53-year-old actor shared the surprising news directly with his fans.
'Hey, everybody! Just wanted you to hear it from me: I am quitting comedy," Robinson said in the clip. 'But not for nothing—it's been an amazing run and y'all have been amazing and wonderful, but I'm following something bigger."
He ended the video by thanking his fans for their support over the years, adding a heartfelt, 'I love you." In the caption, he wrote: 'Life update: I'm officially quitting comedy to focus on my true calling."
In a follow-up video, Robinson teased about starting a dream business with his friends; however, he did not share many details.
'Big shoutout to all my small business owners. Hey, you guys got any advice for me while I'm trying to get my business afloat? I hit a few bumps in the road and I sure would appreciate your guys' tips," he said in the second video.
Fans were quick to react to the video, as many took to the comment section and expressed curiosity about the actor's upcoming new role. He also got rave responses from some fellow comedians, including his Office co-star Kate Flannery. 'We love you, craig!!! Go big, my friend!!!" she wrote in the comments. Howie Mandel also reacted to the post and added, 'Being a dancer is tough, but go for it," while Arsenio Hall commented, 'You been called to preach? 'If loving you is wroo0ng, – – – I don't wanna be riiiiiight'!"
David Arquette also reacted to the post and commented, 'I hope it involves Music! You're brilliant at whatever you choose to do."
Some of Robinson's best comedic roles on TV include Brooklyn Nine-Nine, The Cleveland Show and Ghosted. He also flexed his comic skills in films like Hot Tub Time Machine, Pineapple Express, This Is The End, Dolemite Is My Name and Sausage Party. Besides acting, Robinson has also been associated with music, being a part of the R&B band, The Nasty Delicious, since 2007.
