Fardeen Khan Opens Up About Losing 25 Kilos
Fardeen Khan's weight loss journey has become an inspirational tale for his fans. After being away from the screen for more than a decade, he returned to acting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi and fans noticed the change in his looks. He lost nearly 25 kilos over the past couple of years - a fact that hasn't gone unnoticed by fans and media alike.
'I was 102-103 at my heaviest. Not muscle. Good old body fat… as of last week, I am 78-79 now. Some 25 kilos off,' Khan told Cyrus Broacha.
The Housefull 5 actor revealed that losing weight was not just about transformation, but about maintaining good health as well. He confessed, "I didn't feel like myself at all".
Previously, the actor opened up about his weight loss during an interview with Zoom TV. He revealed that he was trolled on social media. "I was a worldwide trending topic at that time and not for the right reasons."
Quitting Alcohol Was The Major Turning Point
His weight loss journey kicked in when he decided to quit his relationship with alcohol. Fardeen Khan shared that he quit drinking in 2020 because it was interfering with his health and lifestyle.
Fardeen Khan also revealed during the interview how quitting alcohol helped. "I was sober in the early 2020s. That's when I kicked the habit full on during the COVID-19 lockdown. I stopped in one go."
He shared how it was the first time that his 'brain fog kind of cleared.' "I was feeling bloody 60 years old. Now, when you wake up, I feel clean, sober… I quit overnight, but coming to terms with your new life was a tough journey," he shared.

PVR INOX narrows Q1 loss to ₹54 crore on strong lineup, cost control

PVR INOX, India's largest cinema exhibitor, has focused on tighter control over its operating costs through reduction in its electricity and marketing expenses to narrow down its losses. This was also helped by a strong lineup of movies from Hollywood and Bollywood in the first quarter of 2025-26 (Q1FY26). 'We have to have our eye on the ball as far as cost-cutting is concerned,' Ajay Bijli, founder of PVR Cinemas and managing director (MD) of PVR INOX, told Business Standard in an interview. 'On our comparable properties, there has been a marginal increase in manpower, our electricity costs have gone down along with marketing and rent expenditure (in Q1FY26 on a year-on-year or Y-o-Y basis). It is an extremely important part of our strategy to not just rely on movies and improve our revenues but also keep an eye on the cost.' PVR INOX's consolidated net loss narrowed down to ₹54 crore in Q1FY26 on a Y-o-Y basis. The company's revenue from operations rose by 23.38 per cent to ₹1,469.1 crore during the quarter compared with Q1FY25. Its other income increased by 12.89 per cent Y-o-Y to ₹32.4 crore. In the earnings call, an executive of the company said that PVR INOX was able to control electricity consumption by air-conditioning utilities based on the occupancy levels within the cinema halls. It has also deployed solar panels in the cinema, which have reduced its dependence on grid electricity. PVR INOX's profit before depreciation, interest, and taxes (PBDIT) rose by 53.32 per cent to ₹429.6 crore in Q1FY26 compared with the same quarter last year. In Q1FY26, a total of 10 films crossed the ₹100 crore mark, and three crossed the ₹200 crore mark. Bollywood box office collections of PVR INOX surged by 38 per cent in the quarter on a Y-o-Y basis, fuelled by films like Ajay Devgn's Raid 2, Aamir Khan's Sitaare Zameen Par, Kesari Chapter 2, Housefull 5, and Jaat, its earnings release stated. Similarly, with back-to-back major releases from Hollywood like Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, Final Destination Bloodlines, From the World of John Wick: Ballerina and F1, PVR INOX saw 20 per cent rise in admissions during the quarter on a Y-o-Y basis for its premium and experiential formats like IMAX and 4DX. Bijli noted that the momentum in the industry is back, both from the filmmakers' side and the consumers' side, for watching movies on the big screen. 'Things are only going to get better from here. In July, despite the nail-biting (cricket) Test series between India and England, people came and watched movies like Jurassic World Rebirth, Superman, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. There's also an amazing amount of traction that we are seeing for the August 15 weekend, when movies like War 2 and Coolie will be releasing,' he said. The company observed 34 million admissions during the quarter, up by 12 per cent on a Y-o-Y basis. It recorded its highest-ever food and beverage spend per head, which rose 10 per cent to ₹148, according to the release. PVR INOX opened 20 new screens in Q1FY26 and plans to open 100 new screens this year, Bijli added.

Dinesh Vijan has done disservice to film industry through corporate booking, says Komal Nahata: ‘People are now questioning genuine hits'

The biggest hit of this year in India so far has been Laxman Utekar's historical action film Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal. It's produced by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films, which also scored the biggest hit of last year — Amar Kaushik's horror comedy Stree 2, starring Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor, which became the first Hindi film to cross the Rs 600 crore mark in India. But leading trade analyst Komal Nahata feels Vijan has also done a lot of disservice to film trade. 'When Dinesh Vijan started this trend of block booking, on a huge scale by spending crores, I'd written in my articles then that he's doing such a disservice to the industry he doesn't realize it. The direct and true impact of that is now, the newspapers are questioning genuine hits,' argued Nahata. He further elaborated on Fairdoon Shahryar's podcast, 'The newspapers now think a film can't be a hit anymore. If every film is doing well, then there's something wrong. Because Dinesh Vijan, you've drilled it into people's heads that there's nothing like a genuine hit anymore. His own Chhaava, a super-duper hit, is also being pointed fingers at: is it such a big hit? So you've done disservice to your film also.' Nahata also blamed the industry practice of offering the 'buy one get one' scheme on movie tickets. 'The public is now demanding it as a matter of right. 'It's not free, let's not go.' So you've ruined the whole system for your personal gain,' added Nahata, who claimed exhibitors reach out to him to stop this practice as the audience now waits a week or two to let these offers kick in. So none of the new films are able to secure a good opening at the domestic box office. Tarun Mansukhani's hit whodunit comedy Housefull 5, starring Akshay Kumar and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, also employed that tactic by offering the scheme on its first Tuesday itself. Last week, the two new releases — Ajay Devgn's comedy Son of Sardaar 2 and Karan Johar-produced romantic drama Dhadak 2 — also offered the audience 50% discount using promo codes in order to combat the wave caused by Yash Raj Films' romance Saiyaara and Hombale Films' mythological animated film Mahavatar Narsimha. Also Read — Dinesh Vijan on success of Stree 2 and Chhaavaa, says Vicky Kaushal's Mahavatar will be a 'world-class film': 'Distribution is God' 'This isn't filmmaking, this isn't film business. You call this your style of promotion? Would you also murder two people and attract crowd in the theatres then? You can't change the definition of promotion just because you want to gather a crowd,' said Nahata, adding, 'You're a part of the industry. Don't change the dynamics of the industry so much that other producers, distributors, and exhibitors have to pay such a huge price for it.' Maddock Films' next, Tushar Jalota's romantic film Param Sundari, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, is slated to release in cinemas on August 29.
