Gen Z are the ‘Luckiest' kids in History, said Sam Altman

Synopsis
Still being afraid that Artificial Intelligence will take your jobs, the CEO of OpenAI said in his recent interview that the upcoming generation is very lucky because they have a plethora of resources available to them.
Image is AI-generated With the integration of Artificial Intelligence in our jobs, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has remarked that with the present and the future generation coming into the workforce, they are very fortunate to be able to adapt and integrate AI in their learning. The older generation is still reluctant to adapt to AI or is unable to learn as quickly as the newer generation. In his interview with Cleo Abram on the Huge If True podcast, Altman expressed that 'This always happens. And young people are the best at adapting to this. I'm more worried about what it means, not for the 22-year-old, but for the 62-year-old that doesn't want to go retrain or reskill or whatever the politicians call it.'
While the OpenAI CEO had a positive view on the adoption of AI in the workforce, the Godfather of AI, Dr. Geoffrey Hinton, warned people that with the growing trajectory of artificial intelligence. Reported to Business Insider, he warned everyone about the future of AI. He also remarked that an AI system may develop its own internal language that humans cannot understand. This is particularly relevant to the students who are about to join the workforce presently. These comments are not designed to induce fear in people but to inspire people to take responsibility and caution while using AI. For students, this is an eye-opener to study harder and improve their skill set to build a career as not just a tech person who understands AI, but a professional who can contribute as a communicator and understand the depth of artificial intelligence.

Wall Street today: Dow Jones, S&P 500, Nasdaq retreat after hotter-than-expected wholesale inflation data

US stock indices retreated on Thursday after a hotter-than-expected wholesale inflation data dampened investor hopes of interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve this year. A Labor Department report showed the Producer Price Index (PPI) rose 0.9% in July on a month-on-month basis, much greater than Wall Street estimates. It stood at 3.3% on an annual basis last month. The disappointing PPI data comes as a surprise after Tuesday's reading on consumer prices suggested stable inflation in spite of President Donald Trump's tariffs. At 09:42 AM ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 164.29 points, or 0.37%, to 44,757.98, the S&P 500 lost 16.84 points, or 0.26%, to 6,449.74 and the Nasdaq Composite lost 22.69 points, or 0.10%, to 21,690.45. At the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 31.4 points, or 0.07%, to 44,890.84. The S&P 500 fell 13.1 points, or 0.20%, to 6,453.46, while the Nasdaq Composite dropped 63.9 points, or 0.29%, to 21,649.211. Deere & Co stock tumbled 8% after the company reported a drop in quarterly profit. Cisco Systems shares fell 1% after the network equipment manufacturer's broadly in-line forecast. Gold prices were muted on Thursday after hotter-than-expected US wholesale inflation data and a drop in jobless claims. As of 9:15 AM ET (1315 GMT), spot gold fell 0.1% to $3,352.65 per ounce. US gold futures for December delivery were down 0.2% to $3,400.60. Among other metals, spot silver lost 1% to $38.11 per ounce, platinum gained 1% to $1,352.60 and palladium rose 1.7% to $1,140.81. Oil prices were stable on Thursday on uncertainty over US-Russia talks on Ukraine and US President Donald Trump's threat of "severe consequences" for Moscow if it does not agree to peace. Brent crude futures were up 49 cents, or 0.75%, at $66.12 a barrel by 1303 GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 51 cents, or 0.81%, to $63.16.

AI is more persuasive than humans, can change your political views in minutes: Report

Imagine having a casual chat with an AI chatbot and walking away with a completely different opinion on a political issue you felt strongly about just ten minutes earlier. Sounds like a science fiction movie, but it's already happening. New research shows that leading AI models are becoming highly effective at persuasion and, in some cases, even more convincing than humans. They are not just sharing facts but tailoring responses to the individual, using tone, evidence, and personalisation in a way that can subtly sway to a report by Financial Express, studies conducted by the UK's AI Security Institute, in collaboration with universities including Oxford and MIT, found that AI models like OpenAI's GPT-4, GPT-4.5, GPT-4o, Meta's Llama 3, xAI's Grok 3, and Alibaba's Qwen could influence political views in conversations lasting less than ten minutes. What's more, the changes in opinion were not fleeting. A significant portion of participants retained their new views even a month researchers didn't rely on AI's default behaviour alone. They fine-tuned these models using thousands of conversations on divisive topics like healthcare funding and asylum policy. By rewarding outputs that matched the desired persuasive style and by adding personalised touches — such as referencing the user's age, political leanings, or prior opinions — the AI became even more convincing. In fact, personalisation increased its persuasiveness by about five per cent compared to generic responses. While that may not sound huge, in the context of influencing public opinion, it's substantial. Political campaigns spend millions chasing even a one per cent swing in voter sentiment. The ability to get that shift in minutes, at scale, is both impressive and alarming. I think this is where the real debate begins; it's one thing for AI to sell you a new smartphone, but quite another for it to nudge your stance on government study also highlighted that AI persuasion isn't limited to politics. Earlier research from MIT and Cornell showed these models could reduce belief in conspiracy theories, climate change denial, and vaccine scepticism by engaging in personalised, evidence-based conversations. While that sounds like a positive use case, it reinforces the fact that the same skillset could be applied in less ethical ways, such as spreading misinformation or promoting harmful AI's persuasive power also extends to commercial spaces. As Cornell's David Rand pointed out, chatbots could significantly influence brand perceptions and purchasing decisions. With tech companies like OpenAI and Google looking to integrate ads and shopping features into AI assistants, this capability could become a lucrative, yet ethically grey, revenue my view, the real challenge isn't just about how persuasive AI can be now, but how much more convincing it could become with the next generation of models. Regulation and safeguards will be crucial, but so will public awareness. If you know that the friendly chatbot you're talking to could be subtly steering your opinions, you might think twice before taking its words at face value. The technology is powerful — perhaps too powerful — and the world needs to tread carefully.- Ends
