By: Amir Anuar Text Size: TAWAU: Two suspected drug addicts, including a woman, were arrested in separate raids on two homes in Kalabakan district on Friday. The suspects, a 35-year-old local woman and a 46-year-old foreign man, were believed to be involved in drug abuse, said Tawau district police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin. He said the operation, carried out by the district's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division, followed continuous intelligence gathering at the locations. 'The first arrest took place at about 2.40am at a house in Felda Umas, involving a woman and the seizure of about 0.09 grams of syabu,' he said on Saturday. The second raid, at a workers' quarters in Kalabakan around 4am, led to the arrest of the male suspect and the seizure of about 0.11 grams of syabu. Jasmin said both suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine in initial urine screenings. 'We are still tracking down other suspects believed to be involved and are stepping up intelligence efforts to investigate the active drug distribution network in the area,' he said. Kuala Lumpur: Four 13-year-old students have been detained by the police to assist in investigations into the assault of a classmate at a shopping centre in Kajang. Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said the boys were detained following a report lodged by their classmate at 12.57pm yesterday. He said investigations found that the incident occurred at about 11am on July 30, when the complainant and his classmates went to the shopping centre to address a disagreement. 'During the incident, a viral video captured the complainant being assaulted by two students, while two others recorded the act on their mobile phones,' he said in a statement. Naazron added that the victim received medical treatment at a nearby hospital, where he was confirmed to have sustained minor facial injuries. The four students involved were arrested in Kajang at 8.35pm yesterday and remanded for two days until Aug 2 to assist in investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, Section 506 of the same law for criminal intimidation, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955. Naazron advised students to obey school rules and to avoid actions that could affect their future. KUALA LUMPUR: The suspect who stabbed a policeman during a crime prevention patrol at Pudu Market, Jalan Yew, has tested positive for heroin. Kuala Lumpur acting police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad confirmed the suspect was under the influence of drugs during the attack. 'Checks found that the individual has 14 previous records, including those related to drugs and crime,' he said when contacted today. The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and has been remanded for seven days until next Thursday (Aug 7). The injured policeman, who was stabbed in the abdomen, is in stable condition but remains under close observation. The case is being investigated under Sections 307 and 186 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and obstructing a public servant, as well as Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. - Bernama

Kuala Lumpur acting police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad said the man tested positive for heroin, with the substance also found on him when he was arrested. "Checks found that the individual has a record of 14 previous crimes, including for drugs," he said on Friday (Aug 1). Mohamed Usuf said the suspect, who was arrested shortly after the incident, has been remanded for seven days until next Thursday (Aug 7). On Thursday (July 31), a policeman was stabbed with a knife in the stomach while conducting a crime prevention patrol with four other policemen. Mohamed Usuf said the policeman is in stable condition but remains under close observation. He added that the case is being investigated under Sections 307 and 186 of the Penal Code for attempted murder using a weapon and and obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties as well as Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. – Bernama
