Malaysian polytechnics urged to adopt global practices for industry needs

PUTRAJAYA: Polytechnics and Community Colleges must become more practical by implementing global best practices to address actual industry and community requirements.
Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir emphasised this necessity during the Polytechnic Industry Advisory Council meeting and dialogue session organised by the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education.
The department stated that this gathering provided a strategic platform for educational institutions and industries to maintain the relevance of academic programmes, skills training, and talent development for graduates.
'It is in line with the needs of the current job market and the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasises the development of competitive, inclusive and value-based human capital,' it said.
Nine major industry clusters participated in the meeting, covering manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, digitalisation, and petrochemical engineering sectors.
Electrical and electronics, tourism and hospitality, environment, social and corporate governance, and accreditation bodies also joined the discussion.
This year's meeting theme focused on generating smart workforce for the MADANI economy through polytechnic-industry collaboration.
The department explained that the programme reflected the ministry's primary focus for this year on preparing the nation's best talents.
'Various matters were raised during the dialogue session, including issues and challenges in graduate marketability and initiatives to strengthen cooperation between JPPKK and MPIP through the Industry Resolution: MPIP 2025,' the statement said.
Former council chairman Tan Sri Sufri Mohamad Zain received recognition as the Work-Based Learning Icon for 2024 during the event.
UEM Edgenta Berhad and Global Rail Sdn Bhd both received the Outstanding Industry Mentorship award for their contributions.
The ceremony included the appointment of three new council members and the launch of two publications showcasing successful industry-polytechnic collaborations.
These books highlighted Work-Based Learning success stories with industry partners including PKT Logistics since 2012. – Bernama

This was highlighted by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir at the Polytechnic Industry Advisory Council (MPIP) meeting and dialogue session with the Minister of Higher Education, organised by the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (JPPKK) here today. In a statement, the JPPKK said the meeting served as a strategic platform for the department and industry to ensure that academic programmes, skills training and talent development of POLYCC graduates remained relevant. 'It is in line with the needs of the current job market and the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasises the development of competitive, inclusive and value-based human capital,' it said. The meeting brought together nine major industry clusters, namely manufacturing, logistics; agriculture; digitalisation; petrochemical engineering; electrical and electronics; tourism and hospitality; environment; social and corporate governance; and accreditation bodies. In line with this year's MPIP theme, 'POLYCC-Industri: Menjana Tenaga Kerja Pintar untuk Ekonomi MADANI', the JPPKK said the programme was organised to reflect the Ministry of Higher Education's main focus this year, namely preparing the best talents in the country. Also held was the presentation of letters of appointment to three MPIP members, as well as the launch of two books highlighting the success stories of WBL collaborations between polytechnics and industry partners, including PKT Logistics since 2012.

MQF 2.0 to standardise academic and vocational qualifications in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The second edition of the Malaysian Qualifications Framework (MQF 2.0) will be implemented on August 1, 2026. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir stated that MQF 2.0 integrates academic and vocational qualifications under one system. He highlighted that the framework prioritises learning outcomes, a transparent credit system, and sustainability values. 'This achievement reflects the internationalisation of Malaysia's higher education sector,' he said at the MQA Awards 2025 ceremony. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also attended the event. Zambry explained that the awards recognise excellence in Malaysia's higher education ecosystem. Universiti Tenaga Nasional won the Grand Award in the Quality Assurance category. The MQA Awards 2025 included public and private institutions, aligning with the Higher Education Strategic Plan 2025–2035. - Bernama
