Call For POLYCC To Be More Practical To Meet Real Industry Needs

GENERAL PUTRAJAYA, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Polytechnics and Community Colleges (POLYCC) need to be more practical by adopting global best practices to meet the real needs of industry and the community. This was highlighted by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir at the Polytechnic Industry Advisory Council (MPIP) meeting and dialogue session with the Minister of Higher Education, organised by the Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (JPPKK) here today. In a statement, the JPPKK said the meeting served as a strategic platform for the department and industry to ensure that academic programmes, skills training and talent development of POLYCC graduates remained relevant. 'It is in line with the needs of the current job market and the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasises the development of competitive, inclusive and value-based human capital,' it said. The meeting brought together nine major industry clusters, namely manufacturing, logistics; agriculture; digitalisation; petrochemical engineering; electrical and electronics; tourism and hospitality; environment; social and corporate governance; and accreditation bodies. In line with this year's MPIP theme, 'POLYCC-Industri: Menjana Tenaga Kerja Pintar untuk Ekonomi MADANI', the JPPKK said the programme was organised to reflect the Ministry of Higher Education's main focus this year, namely preparing the best talents in the country. 'Various matters were raised during the dialogue session, including issues and challenges in graduate marketability and initiatives to strengthen cooperation between JPPKK and MPIP through the Industry Resolution: MPIP 2025,' the statement said. At the same event, former MPIP chairman Tan Sri Sufri Mohamad Zain was recognised as the POLYCC 2024 Work-Based Learning (WBL) Icon, while UEM Edgenta Berhad and Global Rail Sdn Bhd received the Outstanding Industry Mentorship award. Also held was the presentation of letters of appointment to three MPIP members, as well as the launch of two books highlighting the success stories of WBL collaborations between polytechnics and industry partners, including PKT Logistics since 2012.

The department stated that this gathering provided a strategic platform for educational institutions and industries to maintain the relevance of academic programmes, skills training, and talent development for graduates. 'It is in line with the needs of the current job market and the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI, which emphasises the development of competitive, inclusive and value-based human capital,' it said. Nine major industry clusters participated in the meeting, covering manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, digitalisation, and petrochemical engineering sectors. RM1.2m MADANI projects boost Kampung Batu 8, Bendang Siam

TAIPING: The federal government has allocated RM1.2 million for community development projects in Kampung Batu 8, Bendang Siam under the Kampung Angkat MADANI initiative and MADANI TVET programme. Polytechnic and Community College Education Department (JPPKK) director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Zahari Ismail stated the funds will enhance infrastructure and living standards. Key projects include upgrading the village surau, constructing a community hall and school hall for SK Bendang Siam, and building a funeral room at Masjid Al-Wusqa. Perak PMR 2025: JPPKK Offers Free Maintenance Services For 300 Motorcycles

LUMUT, June 13 (Bernama) -- The Department of Polytechnic and Community College Education (JPPKK) is offering free basic maintenance services for up to 300 motorcycles with engine capacities below 160cc, as part of the Perak MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR), at Lumut Waterfront, beginning today. Kolej Komuniti Pasir Salak director Mohd Shahrir Ahmad Zaini said the service was part of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, in collaboration with several polytechnics and community colleges in the state, including Kolej Komuniti Gerik, Kolej Komuniti Bagan Datuk and Kolej Komuniti Sungai Siput. 'We will begin by providing engine oil changes, followed by filter and spark plug replacements - these are the basic maintenance services we are offering free of charge throughout the PMR programme,' he said when met at the event today. He added that over the course of the three-day programme, a total of 100 motorcycles will be serviced each day on a first-come, first-served basis, starting from 9 am until the daily quota is reached. Mohd Shahrir noted that the free maintenance, carried out by the colleges' teaching staff and students, presents a valuable opportunity for the Perak community, particularly residents in the Lumut and Manjung. He added that the motorcycle maintenance programme aligns with the theme of Perak PMR 2025, 'Pendidikan Tinggi, Memacu Negara MADANI' by promoting the value and role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in national development. 'We want to show the community that these students are already skilled and capable, even though they haven't completed their studies, they can carry out basic maintenance tasks confidently,' he said. 'This, in turn, may help boost public confidence in TVET programmes offered by community colleges and polytechnics across the country. Meanwhile, civil servant Rozman Azahari, 52, said the free motorcycle maintenance initiative is the first of its kind to be introduced under the PMR programme.

Meanwhile, civil servant Rozman Azahari, 52, said the free motorcycle maintenance initiative is the first of its kind to be introduced under the PMR programme. 'Programmes like this are very beneficial as they bring the public closer to key government agencies, while also providing convenience, such as assistance with settling summonses at the Road Transport Department and services from several other ministries,' he said. 'In addition, seeing our own youth conducting these services demonstrates that TVET education equips them with practical skills that can lead to future job opportunities or even the potential to open their own workshops,' he added. The Perak PMR 2025 at Lumut Waterfront will run from 9 am to 10 pm on Friday and Saturday, and until 6 pm on Sunday. Government service booths will operate daily until 6 pm. Perak is the second location to host the large-scale PMR initiative, a result of strategic collaboration between the Performance Acceleration Coordination Unit (PACU) of the Prime Minister's Department, which serves as the main secretariat, and the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE), as the lead ministry.
