Tunnel road will serve only the millionaires of Sadashivanagar and Koramangala: MP Tejasvi Surya
Addressing a press conference, Surya said the Congress-led state government was pushing through a vanity project that would serve only the wealthy residents of neighbourhoods like Sadashivanagar and Koramangala, instead of investing in robust public transport solutions that would benefit the majority of Bengalureans.
'When the DCM himself says even God can't solve Bengaluru's traffic issues, he is only exposing his own failure to govern. Bengaluru needs competent leadership, not divine intervention,' Surya remarked. 'This tunnel road, planned from Hebbal to Silk Board, is a project meant for the rich, paid for by the rest of us.'
The MP raised serious concerns over the credibility of the Tunnel Road project's feasibility study and Detailed Project Report (DPR). He claimed that the Rs 9.5 crore DPR included content allegedly copied from an earlier BMRCL DPR that cost only Rs 1.6 crore. 'Shockingly, the report mentions traffic volumes in Malegaon and Nashik—cities nowhere close to Bengaluru—suggesting it was copy-pasted from a completely unrelated study,' he said.
Surya also flagged the background of the consultants involved. He pointed out that one of the firms behind the feasibility study—part of a joint venture between Lion Consultants and Altinok—has been blacklisted in Madhya Pradesh over a National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) project. Meanwhile, Rodic Consultants, who prepared the DPR, were reportedly linked to a Rs 500 crore scam in Jammu & Kashmir.
He further alleged that the project was moving ahead without mandatory clearance from the Bengaluru Metropolitan Land Transport Authority (BMLTA), violating Section 19 of the BMLTA Act.
Calling on the state government to shelve the tunnel road proposal, Surya said public transport must be prioritised instead. 'Bengaluru is the heartbeat of modern India and deserves world-class infrastructure. Before building a 100-km flyover network or an extravagant tunnel, the DCM should first complete the stalled Ejipura flyover and the Hosakerehalli Junction project,' he said.
The Karnataka cabinet earlier in June had approved the construction of two major tunnel road corridors in Bengaluru under the Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model, clearing the way for toll-based road usage. Planned under the BOOT (Build, Own , Operate and Transfer) model, the concession period has been set at 30 years, during which the selected private players will recover their investment through toll collection.
Shivakumar also stated that tender works are underway and global tenders will be issued through newspaper notification in the next two-three days.
The DPR of Bengaluru's twin-tube tunnel road project between Hebbal and Silk Board Junction has estimated a toll of Rs 330 for a distance of 16.6 km. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 18,000 crore.
The North – South Corridor starting from Hebbal Esteem Mall junction to Silk Board KSRP Junction is going to be developed as Underground Vehicular tunnel having three intermediate locations connected via ramps for entry and exit into the Main Tunnel. This alignment will connect the Hebbal and Silk Board Junction and proposed three intermediate ramps at Mekhri circle, Racecourse and Lalbagh directly, therefore reducing travel time from about 90 minutes to 45 minute and easing congestion on the route.

Employment concerns dominated the question hour of the Day 3 of Himachal Pradesh monsoon assembly session with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) raising slogans and verbal duels between the ruling party and the Opposition. Meanwhile, chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu called the BJP 'confused' and engaging in 'political drama'. The protest was triggered after what the BJP alleged, was the state government's failure, to give clear answers on job creation and appointments. BJP MLAs Vipin Singh Parmar and Satpal Satti had raised a question regarding the number of posts created and jobs provided in the state. Even as BJP accused the state government of failing to fulfil the promise of jobs to the youth, CM said that so far 23,191 youth have been given jobs in the government sector. He said that in the last two years, 5,960 new government posts have been created, while 1,783 unnecessary posts have been abolished. After the proceedings of the House, Sukhu, while talking to the media, said, 'Instead of asking questions, the BJP MLAs were engaged in creating ruckus. When the leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur stands up to speak the rest of the MLAs also start raising their hands. The BJP is divided into five factions and is not ready to listen to each other.' He said, 'During the previous BJP government, jobs were sold and papers were leaked. As soon as the Congress came to power, it dissolved the Coordinate Selection Board and formed a new board. Now appointments are being made in a transparent manner.' Lashing out at BJP, Sukhu said that the BJP is only trying to mislead the youth by spreading lies and confusion, while our government is engaged in providing real employment. Thakur alleged that the Congress government had failed to deliver on its pre-poll promises. 'They had guaranteed 5 lakh jobs in five years with 1 lakh jobs in the first year in permanent government positions with pensions. But instead of giving figures, the CM was arguing. The reality is that on July 31, 2024, the assembly was told that 34,980 jobs had been provided. On August 15, 2025, the CM said 23,195 jobs. There is a difference of around 11,000 jobs,' he said. 'Nearly three years have passed under the Congress government, but not a single unemployed youth got a job. They are even counting Himachalis who have gone abroad at their own expense and found employment there as jobs created in the state,' he alleged. Job trainee is just a change in name: Chief minister In response to BJP MLA Satpal Singh Satti's supplementary question regarding replacing the contract recruitment scheme with job trainee recruitment scheme, the CM clarified that contract jobs have been renamed as job trainee, which has been done under the orders of the court. 'The recruitment will be done through the selection commission. The change in nomenclature was done in wake of high court orders', he said. Jai Ram criticised the government's move to appoint recruits on a job-training basis for two years without regularisation, subject to a qualifying test later. 'This is a crude joke with the youth. Nurses are being hired through outsourcing agencies, and these agencies are linked to Congress leaders and their relatives. Money is being taken first, and then jobs are given,' Jai Ram alleged. Kapil was pursuing a course at Seacom Marine College, Howrah, since April this year and died under mysterious circumstances on August 9. An FIR was registered at Sankrail police station, Howrah City, on the complaint of his uncle. Lakhanpal said the West Bengal police had registered it as a drowning case, but the family of the deceased suspect murder. Immigration fraud will cost you: USCIS warns on false citizenship claims
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued a sharp warning to immigrants: lie about being an American, and you could be barred for a policy update, USCIS said it is 'restoring robust screening and vetting processes to detect aliens seeking to defraud or abuse the immigration system,' stressing that 'aliens who use false information or deceitful practices to unfairly obtain immigration advantages will face serious consequences.'advertisementThe revised guidance in the USCIS Policy Manual focuses on the 'false claim to US citizenship' ground of inadmissibility, a rule Congress put in place to protect the integrity of citizenship rights. USCIS noted that Congress carved out a narrow exception for those who permanently resided in the United States before the age of agency also cited a 2019 ruling by the Board of Immigration Appeals in Matter of Zhang, which found that a false claim to citizenship can carry immigration consequences even if it was not knowingly made. USCIS incorporated that decision into its policy manual in 2020, clarifying that 'it is not necessary to show intent to find an alien inadmissible for a false claim to US citizenship.'According to the agency, the update 'provides the steps an officer should follow to determine inadmissibility' and outlines the factors considered when evaluating a false claim case.
