Cotton seed packet prices spark outrage
Addressing a press conference at the BRS district party office on Monday, Naidu came down heavily on the Congress-led government, accusing it of consistently betraying farmers. He alleged that organisers and companies are creating deliberate confusion among farmers regarding seed prices, thereby pushing them into distress at the start of the sowing season.
'Farmers in Nadigadda are cultivating seed cotton on a massive scale. Organisers profit from their produce yet deny them fair prices. This is nothing short of robbery,' Naidu said, urging seed companies and organisers to coordinate among themselves and ensure remunerative prices for farmers without manipulation.
He also criticised companies for repeatedly engaging in misleading practices every year and appealed for ethical business practices. 'Let us not allow farmers' hard-earned efforts to be looted,' he added.
In addition to the seed price issue, Naidu demanded immediate government intervention to support paddy farmers whose crop was soaked in the sudden rains during the past week. He said that large quantities of paddy stored at IKP centres were drenched, putting farmers in jeopardy.
Prominent party leaders and farmers including Chakradhar Rao, Monesh, D Shekhar Naidu, Venkatesh Naidu, Ganjipet Raju, Kolai Bhaskar, and others were present on the occasion.

Confusion is brewing within the West Bengal State Secretariat over the exact financial burden on the state exchequer following Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's recent announcement to enhance the annual grant for community Durga Puja committees this year. The confusion stems from the exact number of community Durga Puja committees that would be entitled to the eligible state-sponsored grants, with contradictory figures surfacing. While the 'Forum for Durgotsav', an umbrella body of the different community Durga Puja committees in West Bengal, has pegged the number at 43,000, the Chief Minister, in her announcement earlier this week, stated that a total of 45,000 community Durga Puja committees would receive the grant this year. The Chief Minister quoted this figure while she announced that the annual dole amount to each Puja committee this year would be increased to Rs 1.10 lakh from Rs 85,000 last year. If the figure of beneficiary Puja Committees this year is 45,000, as quoted by the Chief Minister herself, the total direct pay-out from the state exchequer will be Rs 495 crore, a 35 per cent rise over the previous year's figure of Rs 365.5 crore. Even if the figure for the number of beneficiary Puja Committees this year is 43,000, as per the records of 'Forum for Durgotsav', the total direct pay-out from the state exchequer will be Rs 473 crore, a 29 per cent rise over the previous year's Rs 365.5 crore. Insiders from the state finance department pointed out that while the figures mentioned above would be just the direct payout from the state exchequer, the actual expenditure would be much more, considering the massive 80 per cent electricity concessions provided to beneficiary Puja committees in addition to the annual dole. Opposition parties have already lashed out at the state government over this enhanced Puja dole hike. The leader of opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, on Thursday, appealed to the community Durga Puja Committees in West Bengal not to accept the annual dole from the government. He urged them to do so in memory of the young woman doctor who was raped and murdered last August on the premises of R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, and in solidarity with lakhs of unemployed youth in the state, whose aspirations, he alleged, have been crushed by flawed government policies. Adhikari also announced full support to those community Durga Puja committees that choose to refuse the state government's dole offer this year.

PM Modi inaugurates, lays foundation stone of projects worth Rs 2,200 cr in Varanasi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and laid foundation stones for a wide range of development projects worth approximately Rs 2,200 crore in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi. In a significant push towards development in his parliamentary constituency, PM Modi also released the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme. Under this instalment, Rs 21,000 crore will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 9.7 crore farmers across the country. He also distributed more than 7,400 assistive aids to 'divyangjan' and elderly beneficiaries. Starting his address with 'Om Namah Parvati Pataye Har Har Mahadev', PM Modi said, "Today, I have come to Kashi for the first time since 'Operation Sindoor'. On April 22, when the Pahalgam terror attack happened, 26 innocent people were killed brutally. The grief of those children and women deeply pained me." "At that time, I was praying to Baba Vishwanath that he give strength to the people to go through this pain and grief. I promised my daughters that I would take revenge for their 'Sindoor', and today, I fulfilled it all due to the blessings of Mahadev. I dedicate the success of 'Operation Sindoor' at the feet of Mahadev," he added. Addressing the massive gathering, the Prime Minister said, "Watching the divine scenes of Shiva devotees carrying Ganga water across Kashi during the auspicious month of Sawan is truly special... Focussing on improving the city's power infrastructure, the Prime Minister also launched electricity projects worth over Rs 880 crore. These include the Smart Distribution Project and the undergrounding of overhead electrical cables, which aim to modernise and secure the city's power supply system. To promote tourism and protect the city's rich cultural heritage, PM Modi inaugurated the redevelopment of eight riverfront Kuccha Ghats, the beautification of the pond and ghat at Rangildas Kutiya in Shivpur, and the restoration of the historic Durgakund. Foundation stones were also laid for the restoration of Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple, development of Karkhiyaon, the birthplace of notable freedom fighters, and redevelopment of Munshi Premchand's ancestral home in Lamahi into a museum.

‘Election system in India already dead', says Rahul Gandhi, calls general elections ‘rigged' , claims he has proof
Congress leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday (August 2, 2025) asserted that the election system in the country was "already dead," and alleged that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections were "rigged" and that he has proof to substantiate the claim. Addressing the Annual Legal Conclave titled 'Constitutional Challenges - Perspectives & Pathways', Mr. Gandhi said that he suspected over 80 Lok Sabha seats were rigged in the 2024 general elections. The Prime Minister of India holds office with a very slim majority. If 15 seats were rigged, we suspect that the number is over 70 to 80, he would not have been the Prime Minister of India. We are going to prove to you in the coming few days how a Lok Sabha election can be rigged and was rigged," Mr. Gandhi said. Highlighting the six-month investigation carried out by Congress, he further alleged that the Election Commission of India (ECI) doesn't exist and has disappeared. According to documentation received from the EC, Mr. Gandhi said that the Congress has ascertained that nearly 1.5 lakh voters out of 6.5 lakh who voted in the Lok Sabha elections were "fake". "It makes it clear that the institution that defends the constitution has been obliterated and taken over. We have such proof that will show the whole country that the institution of the Election Commission does not exist. It has disappeared. It has taken us 6 months of non-stop work to find this proof. You will see with zero doubt how a Lok Sabha election is stolen. 6.5 lakh voters vote, and 1.5 lakh of those voters are fake," the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said. The LoP rekindled his suspicions regarding the election system, saying that he had his doubts about "something being wrong" since 2014. Questioning the BJP's sweeping victories in the assembly elections of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Gandhi noted that they began investigating electoral malpractices following their defeat in Maharashtra, where one crore new voters appeared within months ahead of the assembly elections, ultimately voting for the BJP. "I've been speaking recently about the election system. I had always suspected something was wrong, starting in 2014. I had a suspicion in the Gujarat Assembly elections already. This ability to win sweeping victories. The Congress Party didn't get a single seat in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, or Gujarat, which surprised me. Whenever we spoke, people said, 'Where's the proof?' Then, something happened in Maharashtra," Mr. Gandhi said. "In the Lok Sabha, we won the election. And then four months later, we didn't just lose, we were obliterated. Three formidable parties suddenly just evaporated. We started to look seriously for electoral malpractice. We found that in Maharashtra, one crore new voters appeared between the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections. The bulk of those votes go to the BJP... Now, I say with absolutely no doubt that we have proof," the Congress leader said.
