Collector Santosh Urges Swift Paddy Transport and Protection Measures Amid Rain Forecast in Gadwal
Gadwal: District Collector B.M. Santosh has directed officials to ensure that procured paddy is immediately transported to rice mills and adequately protected with tarpaulins to prevent damage from potential rainfall. On Thursday, the District Collector, along with Additional Collector Narsinga Rao, inspected the paddy procurement centers being run under the supervision of the IKP at Chenugonipalli and Guntipalli villages in Gadwal Mandal. During the inspection, the Collector reviewed key aspects of the procurement process including moisture levels in the grain, lorry loading operations, and data entry in the OPMS (Online Procurement Management System). Noting the possibility of unseasonal rains, he instructed officials to expedite the procurement process to avoid grain spoilage. He emphasized that once the moisture content in the paddy reaches 17%, it should be promptly bagged, loaded onto lorries, and sent to the mills without delay. Until transportation is arranged, the bags must be securely covered with tarpaulins to protect them from rain. The Collector also stressed the importance of accurate and timely data entry in OPMS and maintaining proper records. He instructed officials to ensure there is no shortage of gunny bags or lorries at the procurement centers. Adequate labor should be arranged to avoid delays in transportation, and enough tarpaulins should be kept ready to handle any unexpected rainfall. He further directed that once the truck is loaded, data entry should be done in OPMS without delay, and farmers should receive their payments immediately to avoid inconvenience. During the visit, the Collector interacted with farmers and inquired about the facilities being provided at the centers. Farmers shared their feedback and experiences directly with the Collector. Also present at the event were District Civil Supplies Manager Vimala, Additional DRDO Narsimhulu, Mandal Agriculture Officers, APMs, farmers, and other officials.

Cotton seed packet prices spark outrage
Mahabubnagar: In a stern warning to cotton seed companies and organisers, BRS Gadwal constituency in-charge Basu Hanumanthu Naidu said that if cotton seed packet prices are slashed by even Rs 50, massive protests will erupt across Jogulamba Gadwal district. He demanded a uniform pricing policy of Rs 500 for GMS variety and Rs 600 for Convention variety to prevent exploitation of farmers. Addressing a press conference at the BRS district party office on Monday, Naidu came down heavily on the Congress-led government, accusing it of consistently betraying farmers. He alleged that organisers and companies are creating deliberate confusion among farmers regarding seed prices, thereby pushing them into distress at the start of the sowing season. 'Farmers in Nadigadda are cultivating seed cotton on a massive scale. Organisers profit from their produce yet deny them fair prices. This is nothing short of robbery,' Naidu said, urging seed companies and organisers to coordinate among themselves and ensure remunerative prices for farmers without manipulation. He also criticised companies for repeatedly engaging in misleading practices every year and appealed for ethical business practices. 'Let us not allow farmers' hard-earned efforts to be looted,' he added. In addition to the seed price issue, Naidu demanded immediate government intervention to support paddy farmers whose crop was soaked in the sudden rains during the past week. He said that large quantities of paddy stored at IKP centres were drenched, putting farmers in jeopardy. Prominent party leaders and farmers including Chakradhar Rao, Monesh, D Shekhar Naidu, Venkatesh Naidu, Ganjipet Raju, Kolai Bhaskar, and others were present on the occasion.

Karnataka Paddy Smuggling Sparks Farmer Outrage in Telangana: Kondapuram IKP Center Locked in Protest
Gadwal: Tension flared among local farmers on Saturday as serious allegations emerged against civil supplies officials, IKP center coordinators, and private agents for allegedly prioritizing illegally transported paddy from Karnataka over locally grown Telangana produce. Farmers from Kondapuram, Venkatapuram, Eerlabanda, and Yarsandoddi villages expressed their anguish, claiming that the paddy procurement centers in their region have restricted the purchase of local paddy only to select farmers ("Kallas") while rejecting the majority under various pretexts. In a strong show of dissent, Kondapuram farmers locked the IKP (Indira Kranthi Patham) procurement center and launched a protest, demanding accountability and justice. Key Allegations by Farmers: Karnataka Paddy Getting Preference: Farmers alleged that IKP center officials and civil supplies personnel, in collusion with millers and middlemen, are secretly transporting large quantities of paddy from the neighboring state of Karnataka during the night. These loads are then being purchased at local Telangana procurement centers, depriving local farmers of the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and declared bonus for Telangana-grown paddy. Political Bias and Corruption: It was claimed that local center managers are indulging in favoritism and political bias, limiting procurement only to selected individuals while denying others by citing reasons such as the non-availability of gunny bags or moisture content in the produce—even when within permissible limits. Neglect by Authorities: Despite repeated complaints and appeals to higher officials, the farmers said their pleas were ignored. This lack of response has forced them to resort to protest actions, such as locking the procurement center, to bring attention to their plight. One protesting farmer said, "Our hard-earned crops are being rejected while illegally brought paddy from Karnataka is being accepted and sent to rice mills. What is the motive behind this? Are Telangana farmers being betrayed in their own land?" Farmers Demand Immediate Action: The farmers called on district and state-level civil supplies officials to: Immediately halt the procurement of illegally transported Karnataka paddy, Ensure the purchase of Telangana paddy with due MSP and bonus, Provide sufficient gunny bags and remove arbitrary restrictions on moisture content, Take disciplinary action against corrupt officials and middlemen involved in this racket. As procurement season continues, such allegations of cross-border grain smuggling and favoritism threaten to erode farmer trust in government-run procurement systems. Local farmers have warned of intensified protests if their issues are not resolved promptly.
