PS Plus Extra and Premium August 2025 games release time – when you can play the PS5 and PS4 titles

The PS Plus Extra and Premium August 2025 games are set to drop soon, and there's not long to wait before you can get stuck into the likes of Marvel's Spider-Man and Mortal Kombat 1
The latest PS Plus drop, packed with Spider-Man and Mortal Kombat, is set to land incredibly soon, meaning there's not long left before your gaming backlog gets a whole lot longer.

PS Plus has been treating subscribers to some pretty impressive titles recently. The PS Plus Essential August drop took the chance to gift all subscribers an incredibly strong selection of games, with Lies of P and Day Z arriving to ensure that no one has an excuse not to fight for survival across two vastly different worlds – but it's Extra and Premium subscribers getting the best part of the deal.

The PS Plus Extra and Premium July release gave players quite the surprise when it unexpectedly dropped Cyberpunk 2077 on the same day, and offered fans the opportunity to pick up the game's Phantom Liberty DLC at a discount. No one could have predicted it, and even though it arrived alongside Abiotic Factor and a number of other grand titles, few stood up to the RPG behemoth. And now, even more fantastic games are on their way.

Despite the PS Plus Extra and Premium August 2025 games being led by the colossal Mortal Kombat 1, it's been largely overshadowed by Marvel's Spider-Man, arguably PlayStation 's most replayable first-party game, and the debut of Sword of the Sea, a fresh release from the creators of Abzu. It's a significant event, to say the least, and with the original versions of Resident Evil 2 and 3 also making an appearance, players won't be left twiddling their thumbs.
Fortunately for us, we don't have much longer to wait for these games to land – so when exactly can we expect them. Here's what you need to know about the PS Plus Extra and Premium August 2025 games release time.

'Hollywood of the South' feels the pinch from Marvel's slowdown

Marvel shot many scenes in Georgia thanks to its generous production tax credits, with flicks that cost over $500,000 qualifying for a 20 percent base transferable tax credit. But the studio has recently been moving much of its production to the United Kingdom, citing rising costs in Georgia that make filming across the pond a cheaper option. This most recently saw this summer's Fantastic Four reboot filmed in the UK, and the loss of Marvel's business has fueled a nearly 50 percent drop in production spending in Georgia in the past three years, per the Wall Street Journal. The entertainment industry supported almost 20,000 jobs in Georgia, with the steep drop off set to impact thousands of movie workers. Script supervisor Janine Gosselin (pictured), 62, told the outlet that she has gone from having an overload of work with Marvel after moving to Georgia for the past two decades to now struggling to find new productions. 'You feel like a jilted lover,' she said. Gosselin said she is not alone in finding her workload drop off, and was forced to borrow from her retirement plan to pay the bills after failing to find steady work for over a year. Following the London production of the Fantastic Four reboot, Marvel is now reportedly filming its next two Avengers movies and the next Spider-Man film in London as well. The sharp decline in the number of productions in Georgia has been a shock to the state's movie industry. This has seen only around 245 projects shot in Georgia in the fiscal year that ended in June, compared to 412 in the 2022 fiscal year. The drop-off has also been driven by a general reduction in the number of TV shows that studios have made in recent years as streaming platforms become central to their profit margins. Much of this work has since moved overseas, and the United Kingdom has become a favorite of many studios due to its lower salary demands and the lack of a need to fund employee health insurance. According to statistics cited by the Journal from data company ProdPro, the United Kingdom has seen a 16 percent surge in movies and TV series with budgets above $40 million in 2024 compared to 2022. In the US nationwide, there has been a 29 percent decline in this same metric. Statewide, the entertainment industry supported almost 20,000 jobs. But now, Trilith has been struggling to fill its stages.

Dad, 38, dies ‘after being bitten by pet spider' he bought online just weeks earlier

A DAD died after reportedly being bitten by his own pet spider he had bought just weeks before his death. Mark Anthony Kirby, 38, from Prescot, Merseyside, is understood to have been wounded by the spider shortly after purchasing it. His family have now shared their heartache after Mark died just a week later on August 2. Kayleigh Gill, Mark's ex-partner of 16 years, explained she thought he had become obsessed with spiders as he was living alone. Paying tribute to the dad-of-two, Kayleigh told Liverpool Echo: "He was funny, caring, outgoing and such a people person. He was a brilliant dad to our two children and was always the life and soul of the party. "He had bought five spiders online two or three weeks before and was obsessed with them. "I think he bought them because he lived alone but he was always terrified of insects when we were together. Even though we had split up, we were best friends. He put our children first."
