Michigan man fatally struck by vehicle while standing outside his car on freeway
The crash happened sometime before 5 a.m. on Aug. 3 in Ypsilanti Township. Michigan State Police said troopers from the Brighton Post were called to the westbound exit ramp to Wiard Road from Interstate 94. Troopers located the man's 2006 Ford F-150 on the right shoulder of the of the ramp and spoke with the man's brother, who said he recevied a call from the victim asking him to bring gas.
The brother told investigators that when he got to the scene, he spotted a truck driving into the woods and his brother lying in the roadway. The brother also told MSP that the victim's truck appeared to have some damage.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
A preliminary investigation deteremined a 50-year-old man from Ypsilanti was driving a 2022 Ford F-150 when he fell asleep and crashed into the victim's truck, also hitting him. The crash caused the driver to drive into the woods. He was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Alcohol and drugs are believed to be factors, according to MSP.
An investigation is ongoing.

A Ypsilanti man was federally charged with interfering with Border Patrol agents who were transporting inmates through actions that could have caused their vehicles to crash on Interstate 96 in Michigan. Jacob Nathaniel Len, 30, faces a criminal complaint of impeding, intimidating or interfering with the agents during the July 7 incident, according to the press release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Michigan. According to the court report, four uniformed officers from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency were in two marked Border Patrol service vehicles while transporting 15 people detained on immigration violations to a correctional facility in Michigan. While the federal vehicles were traveling on I-96, another motorist approached in a BMW sedan and "flipped off the agents with his middle finger," the report said. Then immediately after passing the lead transport van, the motorist cut in front of the lead van without signaling and rapidly slowed down. In response, the driver of the van quickly braked to avoid a collision. The driver of the Border Patrol vehicle behind it was forced to quickly brake to avoid striking the van. This action was repeated twice before the motorist eventually left the freeway. U.S. Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. said the actions "cavalierly endangered" the lives of the agents, the detainees who were in transport and other drivers on the highway. "Our agents are committed to carrying out their duties with professionalism and dedication, and we will not tolerate behavior that endangers their lives or the lives of others," Chief Patrol Agent John R. Morris from the U.S. Border Patrol, Detroit Sector, said about the incident. Len was in federal court Monday and released on bond. His next court appearance is a preliminary exam Aug. 25. The FBI is leading the investigation, working with the Border Patrol.

Minneapolis City Council set to review Lake Street raid that prompted outcry
The Minneapolis City Council is taking time to look back and reflect on a day that sparked chaos earlier this summer. A federal investigation brought armored vehicles and militarized police to Lake Street in June. Ultimately, it turned out to be related to a drug and human trafficking case. But fears caused by the White House's immigration crackdown caused protesters to clash with police. On Tuesday, the City Council will hold an after-action review. "My job as mayor is to learn the facts, get properly briefed with what is happening, communicate out accurate information to the public, and also provide direction to our respective departments to do the job that we are charged with doing," Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said at the time. The city said, considering what's happening on the national level with federal immigration operations, this was something every council member voted to do. Law enforcement and city leaders say the raid was focused on a drug and money laundering bust, but they weren't made aware of federal movements until after the incident. "I did the best I could to learn what was happening, and to get accurate information, but there were a number of law enforcement agencies involved. There was a task force, and I didn't even know that task force was operating," Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said. "Do not mislead the public, causing more harm to our communities," Hennepin County Sheriff Dawanna Witt said. The city auditor will present the after-action review, which includes how the operation unfolded, what city departments knew and when, Tuesday at 1 p.m. The public will also get a chance to weigh in.

Deadly crash involving 3 semi trucks shuts down part of I-65 in Indiana
A deadly crash involving three semi trucks shut down part of I-65 near Fair Oaks, Indiana, overnight. According to Indiana State Police, one of the trailers involved in the crash was carrying peat moss and caught fire after the crash. Police said the moss kept reigniting, causing a delay in clearing the roadway. Police said southbound traffic is being diverted at exit 220. Police do not have a timeline for the closures.
