According to a report from Globo Esporte the player is valued at £56.2m and United recently sent a scout to watch him during Internacional's Copa do Brasil match against Fluminense.
The game, held at the iconic Maracana Stadium, ended in a 1-1 draw, which led to Internacional's elimination from the competition.
However Mathias still managed to leave a strong impression despite limited minutes.
The scout in attendance was Alexandre Torres, a former player and the son of Brazilian football legend Carlos Alberto Torres.

Torres, who currently works as an scout for United, was reportedly keeping a close eye on the teenager's performance throughout the match.
Mathias came off the bench during the game but his brief appearance was enough to capture Torres' attention.
The young forward showed glimpses of his potential with sharp movement, strong positioning and a physical presence that clearly stood out even in a high-pressure match.
Before United's scouting mission, Mathias had already been on the radar of several other clubs.

PSV Eindhoven were among the first European sides to express interest, reportedly considering a move to bring the striker to the Eredivisie.
Additionally, two Brazilian investment groups have attempted to secure part-ownership of his economic rights.

However, none of those efforts have yet materialised into a completed transfer or partnership.

One unnamed Premier League club has gone a step further than the rest, having already submitted a letter of intent regarding their interest in the young forward, signalling potential negotiations.
Standing at 6ft 3in, Mathias is a physically imposing striker who combines strength with impressive speed and agility.
This rare combination of attributes has earned him early comparisons to world-class centre-forward Robert Lewandowski.

Like Lewandowski, Mathias is known for his intelligent movement and ability to find space in tight areas.
He is also comfortable dropping deep to link up play, working effectively with midfielders and wide players to create attacking opportunities.
Manchester United, still in the midst of rebuilding under Ruben Amorim, have already signed Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo in response to finishing 15th in the league last season.

They have also been linked to Gianluigi Donnarumma as questions remain of goalkeeper Andre Onana.
There is also an on-going drive to get players out of the door with the likes of Alejandro Garnacho and Jadon Sancho all set to leave before the transfer window shuts next month.

Transfers: Up to Isak if he plays for Newcastle again - Howe, Hurzeler confident Brighton will keep Baleba, Maresca wants new CB
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has admitted want-away striker Alexander Isak will determine whether or not he plays for the club again. The 25-year-old Sweden international will not be involved in Saturday's Premier League opener at Aston Villa after telling the club he wants to explore his options this summer, with Liverpool having had a £110million (€128m) bid for the player rejected. Head coach Howe, who believes Isak could yet be reintegrated back into the squad, has been diplomatic to date when asked about his star striker, but asked if he could see him playing for the Magpies before the end of the summer transfer window, he replied: "As I sit here now, I don't know that. Alex will control that." Howe's tacit admission that the Swede is refusing to play - rather than having been banished to work alone - in an effort to force his way out of the club he joined in a £63m (€73m) switch from Real Sociedad during the summer of 2022 leaves the two parties in a difficult position. Isak has three years remaining on his contract at St James' Park, and it is understood he will be fined – the maximum penalty for a single offence is two weeks' wages – for missing a competitive match this weekend. Reports have suggested Liverpool will submit a second offer – their initial bid was £40m shy of Newcastle's valuation – but Howe is confident there is a way back for the player should no deal be struck. He said: "Yes, I believe there is, but of course discussions and talks would have to take place in order for that to happen." Asked if he expected Isak to still be a Newcastle player when the transfer window closes on 1 September, Howe replied: "Yes. At the moment I would, but I've got no change of feeling throughout the summer. "It's not in my hands, but he's contracted to us, so that's why I say that." Isak's stance had angered and disappointed fans who have seen him blossom to play a major role in last season's Carabao Cup success and Champions League qualification, but Howe insisted the player is aware of what the club, its staff and his team-mates have done for him. He said: "He's a highly intelligent person and he knows he wouldn't have the success here without everybody connected with Newcastle. "This is a different moment for him and us, and we're working through that together." In the meantime, Howe and the club's recruitment team will continue the search for new signings – Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey was close to completing a move on Friday morning while Brentford's Yoane Wissa remains a target – although he admitted their options have been reduced after missing out on the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Hugo Ekitike and Joao Pedro. He said: "Yes, we've been active for a few and for whatever reason, they haven't happened, I can't deny that, but we're still actively looking and I still believe that there is someone there that can fit our requirements." Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler is "very, very, very confident" Carlos Baleba will remain at the club despite being linked with a move to Manchester United. Forward trio Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have moved to Old Trafford this summer and it seems United are out to reinforce their midfield before the transfer window closes. It has been reported that defensive midfielder Baleba fits the bill for United boss Ruben Amorim, but the Cameroonian, who joined Brighton from Lille in August 2023, still has three years remaining on his contract. Hurzeler was bullish when asked whether Baleba will remain with the Seagulls this season, adding the 21-year-old is enjoying being at the club and has not been distracted by United's rumoured interest. "Very, very, very confident (he will stay)," Hurzeler told a press conference ahead of Brighton's Premier League curtain-raiser at home to Fulham on Saturday. "It's just my belief. "I didn't see any change in him. He only changed his hair, that was the only change he made in the last two weeks! "But overall, he seems to be in a really good place. He's enjoying it with his team-mates. He's enjoying being a Brighton player. "He's very grateful to have the progress he made in the last season. I didn't see any big change. He is an option to start for tomorrow." Enzo Maresca wants Chelsea to sign a centre-back to replace the injured Levi Colwill. England international Colwill is set to miss most of the new season after suffering an ACL injury in training. Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah are poised to start in central defence against Crystal Palace in their Premier League opener on Sunday. But Blues boss Maresca is not convinced he can replace key man Colwill, 22, from within his current squad and has been linked with a move for Antonio Silva of Benfica. "You know how important Levi has been for us last season, for the way we want to play," said Maresca. "We said many times that we are able to create chances and to attack in the right way if we are able to build in the right way. Levi was a huge part of our build-up and now he's out. "We are trying to find a solution internally, but the club know exactly what I think and we'll see what happens. "I think we need a central defender. We are looking for an internal solution but as I said, the club know exactly what I think. "We have a fantastic squad. We are happy with the squad. we are, no doubt. But we said many times that when the transfer window is open, anything can happen."

Itauma told ‘anything other than becoming world champion is a failure' with Brit ‘more impressive than Joshua and Fury'
All recommendations within this article are informed by expert editorial opinion. If you click on a link in this story we may earn affiliate revenue. A FUR THING Itauma told 'anything other than becoming world champion is a failure' with Brit 'more impressive than Joshua and Fury' DAVID HAYE is more impressed by the talent of Moses Itauma than he has been with any other heavyweight - including Anthony Joshua or Tyson Fury. Itauma debuted at 18 and was already being dubbed Britain's answer to a prime Mike Tyson - who became the youngest heavyweight world champion ever at 20. 6 Moses Itauma ahead of his fight with Dillian Whyte Credit: Getty 6 Anthony Joshua reigned as unified world champion Credit: PA Advertisement 6 So too did Tyson Fury Credit: AP Slovakian-born and Kent-raised Itauma even wanted to break Iron Mike's record which has stood for nearly 40 years. He fell short but Haye - who reigned at cruiserweight and heavyweight - says it is only a matter of time until he has gold around his waist. The Hayemaker retired in 2018 when AJ and Fury were at their brilliant world championship best. Advertisement But neither British legend has caught his eye as much as 20-year-old KO starlet Itauma. READ MORE IN BOXING Itauma vs Whyte All the details you need as British heavyweights clash in Saudi Haye told SunSport, courtesy of HighBet: "Way more impressed, way more impressed with him than any of the others. "He's the best guy coming through that I've seen. He looks as good as you're gonna get. He looks as good as I've ever seen. "I can't think of another fighter in that few heavyweight fights that has looked as devastating and hasn't shown any chink in the armour. Advertisement "Everything looks on point, he's got the right mindset. You don't hear about him out partying and all that bulls***. 6 MOSES ITAUMA VS DILLIAN WHYTE: ALL THE DETAILS YOU NEED AHEAD OF HUGE HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT WATCH ITAUMA VS WHYTE LIVE ON DAZN CASINO SPECIAL - BEST CASINO BONUSES FROM £10 DEPOSITS Advertisement "He was focused on becoming the youngest ever heavyweight champion and he wants to do some crazy stuff in a sport. "Anything other than becoming world heavyweight champion would be a complete failure. I love that. If he wins I will fight him Chisora | No Glove Lost: Itauma vs Whyte fight preview | Sun Sport "I love the fact that he's not in it to be the British champion, the European champion. I'm sure just winning the world title wouldn't be enough. Itauma - who has 10 KO's in his 12 wins - steps up for his biggest test to date on Saturday in Riyadh against Dillian Whyte. And if he takes out ex-WBC title challenger Whyte in dominant fashion - Haye reckons Itauma could be the only man capable of mounting a real threat to Oleksandr Usyk's throne. Advertisement He said: "You can't even think about Usyk because we don't know if he can beat Dillian. "But, if he smashes Dillian in a couple of rounds, we all got to have that conversation. We all wanna say, is it too soon or is it perfect? "Is he just ready right now? If he gets rid of Dillian in a few rounds, I'd say he's got a shot. He's got a better shot than most. "I'd say the only person who's got a better shot than him would be Derek Chisora because Derek Chisora's already done it once. He's the best guy coming through that I've seen. He looks as good as you're gonna get. He looks as good as I've ever seen. David Haye on Moses Itauma "He's already been in there and pushed the hardest out of any heavyweight. Advertisement "So if he can get rid of Dillian in a few rounds and not have a life and death, then yeah, cool. Who else is there to beat Usyk?" Whyte comes into the bout as a huge underdog and inactive at the top level - with his most meaningful win coming in 2022 against Jermaine Franklin. He was due to rematch Joshua - who he lost to in 2015 - back in August 2023 but Whyte was pulled out amid a doping breach. He returned an "adverse finding" in his pre-fight drug test - which was later put down to a "contaminated" supplement meaning he served no ban. Whyte continued his career with underwhelming wins over Christian Hammer in Ireland and Ebenezer Tetteh in Gibraltar last year. Advertisement So Haye - who used to spar Whyte - hailed the Brixton Body Snatcher for taking on red-hot favourite Itauma after a period in the cold. 'It's bordering disrespectful' He said: "Dillian has been massively overlooked here. I think some of the stuff I've heard, it's bordering disrespectful. "People seem to have a short memory about the Joseph Parker victory. "The Chisora victories in epic fights that everyone had a great night of entertainment and after strength of his last two performances, he didn't look that great. "He looked like his best days are behind him and at the start, I thought he was just gonna go through the motions and just assume he'll be good enough. Advertisement "But seeing the shape he's coming, looking at his body, that looks like a prime Dillian Whyte. "That looks like Dillian Whyte that turned up to fight Chisora because he knew he was in for a battle. "He knew that wasn't going to be nice and he was mentally prepared for a tough, tough battle. "And Moses has all the potential but potentials don't win world titles performances do, proving it against world-class opposition. "So this is his first opportunity to fight a world-class heavyweight who is genuinely coming to win not turning up for a paycheck, he's coming to win. Advertisement "And Moses, he may have felt that energy a little bit in his career, but he would never have felt it like it's gonna feel on Saturday." 6 David Haye was speaking to SunSport as a brand ambassador for Highbet Credit: PA
