Diaz happy at Liverpool but future uncertain

Diaz remains a target despite Liverpool's stance
Barcelona's pursuit of Diaz continues in the background. The Athletic revealed that the Spanish giants made contact with Liverpool on Wednesday to enquire about the 27-year-old. However, the Merseyside club issued an immediate rejection and maintain their position that Diaz is not for sale this summer.
Despite this firm stance, there is growing uncertainty over the long-term future of the winger, who joined Liverpool from Porto in January 2022. Diaz is currently contracted until 2027, but sources indicate there is little expectation of an extension.

The Colombian is still operating under the terms of his original deal, which places him well below the club's top earners. While Diaz remains an integral part of Arne Slot's squad, and despite past reports from Sky Sports suggesting Liverpool were preparing an improved contract offer, meaningful progress has yet to be made.
Contract stalemate clouds Diaz's Anfield future
Liverpool reportedly explored the possibility of a renewal earlier this year, with the aim of rewarding Diaz's elevated status. However, no agreement has been reached. With two years left on his deal, the club faces a strategic decision: either cash in this summer or retain him until the end of the 2026–27 season and risk losing him on a free transfer.
Insiders suggest that the latter option is more likely, with Liverpool valuing Diaz's contribution on the pitch more than any immediate financial gain. The club would prefer to maximise his influence across the next two campaigns, even if it means allowing him to depart without a transfer fee in 2027, when he will be 30.
Diaz speaks out amid swirling speculation
Amid interest from across Europe, Diaz himself has spoken publicly about his situation. While on international duty with Colombia, the winger reiterated his commitment to Liverpool but acknowledged that talks are ongoing behind the scenes.
'I'm very happy at Liverpool, I've always said so. They've welcomed me very well from day one.
'We're currently in contact with Liverpool because we're talking to clubs, and that's normal given the transfer market that's opening. We're trying to work out what's best for us.
'I'm just waiting to see what happens. If Liverpool gives us a good renewal or I still have the [two] years left with them, I'll be happy and content there.'
His comments underline a player content with his current environment but open to future developments, leaving both Liverpool and Barcelona with decisions to make as the transfer window unfolds.

Real Madrid star hits new milestone with latest international goal

Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappé has on Sunday secured for himself another altogether impressive goalscoring feat. This comes owing to the 26-year-old's latest efforts on the international front. France are currently locked in action, in a Nations League 3rd-place playoff meeting with fellow heavyweights Germany. Advertisement Mbappé, for his part, was in from the off in the clash, leading the line for Didier Deschamps' Les Bleus. And the Real Madrid man has since gone on to make his presence firmly felt once more. Picked out by Blancos teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni courtesy of a pinpoint ball to the back post, Mbappé did superbly to control, work the ball onto his right foot, before finding the far corner of Marc-André ter Stegen's net. And opening the scoring on the day aside, the former PSG attacker's latest goal has also proven significant when it comes to the history books. This comes with Mbappé having now racked up 50 goals in the colours of France, just seven shy of the country's all-time record. Conor Laird – GSFN
