Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Knight Frank MENA has appointed Buthainah Albaity as Partner – Head of Private Capital & Family Enterprises to oversee the new division dedicated to consulting high-net-worth individuals, family enterprises and family offices.
Albaity joins the global real estate consultancy from KPMG, bringing with her 18 years of experience across investment banking and consulting. Her expertise spans the full deal cycle, with a focus on the private sector, advising private placements and real estate IPOs.
Her early career at Riyadh-based Swicorp included working on transactions and real estate advisory, including the Private placement and IPO of the Knowledge Economic City Project, supporting the Kingdom's efforts towards economic diversity.
In 2012, Albaity joined KPMG, where she was responsible for co-founding the Private Enterprise practice for the Saudi Levant Cluster and led the Private Sector Real Estate Strategy offering in the Kingdom. During this time, key projects included acting as the exclusive financial advisor on a SAR 300+ million sale and leaseback of freehold sites for a retail chain; developing the corporate strategy and optimisation for a family-owned real estate portfolio worth SAR 9 billion; and spearheading the 15-year business planning for a major real estate development in Madinah.
Commenting on her recent appointment, Albaity said: 'I am delighted to join Knight Frank MENA during this exciting phase of growth and to be entrusted with the leadership of our new Private Capital & Family Enterprises division, where our team will bring together the collective, cross-sector expertise of Knight Frank for clients across the MENA region.'
The Private Capital & Family Enterprises team will serve as the primary point-of-contact for clients such as private investors, family offices and founder-led businesses seeking access to Knight Frank's full suite of advisory and transactional services. The team will coordinate multi-disciplinary teams to deliver end-to-end consultancy, from opportunity sourcing and acquisition, through deal structuring and asset management, to exit and divestment planning.
General Manager, KSA, Susan Amawi, added: 'Welcoming Buthainah to Knight Frank is a pivotal moment in our overall expansion strategy as we continue to grow our footprint and service offering in the Kingdom and wider MENA region. Our new Private Capital & Family Enterprises practice offers a bespoke service for every client, led by a single, dedicated point of contact who unites the diverse expertise from our in-house transactional, consultancy and research teams.'
James Lewis, Managing Director, MEA commented: 'The decision to introduce our Private Capital & Family Enterprises solutions group was a natural next step for us as we continue to diversify our service offering and tailor our approach for clients in the MENA region. Greca Eyes Egyptian Investors with €85mln portfolio & expansion plans

Cairo. Greca Real Estate Development is currently negotiating the acquisition of 8 new buildings comprising around 300 residential units, with total investments estimated at €35 million. In addition, the company owns approximately five land plots across various Greek regions, covering a combined area of nearly 4,000 square meters, which are slated for future development. The company has already begun collaborating with agencies and offices specializing in Egyptian outbound travel, aiming to showcase its projects to prospective buyers. According to CEO and founder Ahmed Abbassi, 80% of the company's sales to date have come from Egyptian clients—thanks in part to the Egyptian background of Greca's board, which boasts strong local market ties. The remaining clients are largely from Turkey or are Egyptian nationals residing in the UAE. Abbassi emphasized that Greca is not targeting the traditional real estate buyer in Egypt. Rather, the company is appealing to individuals seeking ease of movement and access across Europe. Greca's business model is designed to attract Egyptian investors aiming to unlock EU residency through the Greek property market. Looking ahead, the company plans to expand its presence in Egypt to attract a broader client base, especially those looking for permanent residency in Europe through Greek investment opportunities. Abbassi explained that under Greece's current legal framework, foreign buyers can qualify for permanent residency by investing €800,000 in new residential projects. However, if the purchased property involves a change of use—from commercial or administrative to residential—the minimum threshold drops significantly to €250,000. These legal changes, recently introduced by the Greek government, are aimed at easing pressure on new housing supply and curbing the surge in real estate prices. Greca specializes in acquiring strategically located buildings, redeveloping them, and offering them to clients seeking European residency. The company currently owns 15 buildings in Greece, with total investments of around €50 million covering both acquisition and redevelopment costs. The firm also announced its intention to open a Cairo office by Q4 of next year, aiming to streamline project marketing and enable direct client engagement, rather than relying solely on virtual meetings as it does now. Abbassi revealed Greca's plan to release 150 new residential units in Athens to the market this period.

Saudi Arabia's ADES to acquire Norway's Shelf Drilling in $380 million deal

Saudi-based oil and gas drilling company ADES International Holding has agreed to acquire Norway's Shelf Drilling in a $380 million all-cash deal, strengthening its position in the global offshore drilling market, according to a report by Reuters. The deal, valued at $379 million, offers Shelf Drilling shareholders $1.36 per share, representing a 62 per cent premium over the stock's last closing price on the Oslo Stock Exchange. Shelf's board has recommended the offer, the companies told Reuters in a joint statement. Once finalised, the merger will create a combined fleet of 83 offshore jack-up drilling rigs, solidifying ADES's role as a global leader in shallow-water drilling services. 'With this landmark transaction, we reinforce our position as a market leader in shallow-water offshore drilling,' said ADES CEO Mohamed Farouk, as quoted in the joint statement. The transaction is expected to close in Q4 2025, subject to shareholder approval at an extraordinary general meeting and other regulatory conditions. This acquisition is the latest in a string of moves by ADES to expand internationally and bolster its service offerings to the global oil and gas industry.
