Steelers' Aaron Rodgers opens up about Will Howard's injury at training camp
On Wednesday, reporters asked Rodgers to speak on Howard's injury setback — and the four-time MVP didn't mince words in explaining why 2025 is still a pivotal growth year for the rookie quarterback.
'I mean, it sucks,' Rodgers said. 'Sucks for him, for sure, 'cause he's had such a nice camp as a young player. And then watching him at minicamp and seeing his command of the offense. But this year is a growth year for him. It's a year to watch and learn — and obviously better himself. This will just be a minor setback for him. … This is a year for him to grow and learn — and get his body ready the way he wants to get it, and get ready to be the guy for a long time.'
No one was writing off Howard's Steel City career after the broken finger, but Steelers fans were certainly disappointed after realizing they might not get to see him show off in preseason — and HC Mike Tomlin's injury update did little to change that.
The new injury hasn't changed Rodgers' overall commitment to preparing Howard to take his place once he retires — in fact, it's just another opportunity to smile in the face of adversity.

Shortly after former MSU defensive back and current member of the Tennessee Titans, Kendell Brooks took an interception all the way for a touchdown, Nathan Carter fired back and broke a huge run for a 43-yard touchdown for his Atlanta Falcons. Carter, who, like Brooks, is vying for a roster spot in the NFL, managed to take what looked like a simple inside handoff, found a seam, and showed some nice top-end speed to take it all the way to the end zone.
