Brunei Sultan and consort to attend NDP 2025 in Singapore
The visit by Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and his consort reflects the close, warm, and long-standing friendship between the Sultanate and Singapore.
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN - Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and his consort , Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha, are to attend the 60th National Day Parade of Singapore on Aug 9, at the invitation of Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
Their visit to attend the National Day Parade of Singapore reflects the close, warm, and long-standing friendship between the Sultanate and Singapore.
Both countries enjoy excellent bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of trade and investment, currency interchangeability, defence, as well as people-to-people relations, and also work closely together at the regional and international level, including in Asean, the United Nations, and the Commonwealth.

Zelenskiy won diplomatic backing from Europe and the NATO alliance on Sunday ahead of a Russia-U.S. summit this week where Kyiv fears Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump may try to dictate terms for ending the 3-1/2-year war. "We cannot accept that territorial issues are decided between Russia and America over the heads of Europeans and Ukrainians," Merz said. REUTERS/Stringer Russian strikes injured at least 12 in Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia region, the country's foreign affairs ministry said on Sunday. Russia attacked Zaporizhzhia with guided aerial bombs, hitting residential areas, a bus station and a clinic, Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a post on X. "At least 12 people were injured, one of whom was rescued by emergency workers from under the rubble of destroyed structures," the post added. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said first responders, medics and police officers are working to help after a strike by Russian bombs in Zaporizhzhia. "Unfortunately, there are casualties," Zelenskiy said. "That is why sanctions are needed, pressure is needed." Strength is needed – of the United States, of Europe, of all nations in the world that want peace and stability in international relations, Zelenskiy added. WASHINGTON - President Donald Trump said on Aug 10 that homeless people must be moved 'far' from Washington, after days of musing about taking federal control of the US capital where he has falsely suggested crime is rising. The Republican billionaire has announced a press conference for Aug 11 in which he is expected to reveal his plans for Washington – which is run by the locally elected government of the District of Columbia under congressional oversight. It is an arrangement Mr Trump has long publicly chafed at. He has threatened to federalise the city and give the White House the final say in how it is run. 'I'm going to make our Capital safer and more beautiful than it ever was before,' the president posted on his Truth Social platform on Aug 10. 'The Homeless have to move out, IMMEDIATELY. We will give you places to stay, but FAR from the Capital,' he continued, adding that criminals in the city would be swiftly imprisoned. 'It's all going to happen very fast,' he said. Earlier this week Mr Trump also threatened to deploy the National Guard as part of a crackdown on what he falsely says is rising crime in Washington. Violent crime in the capital fell in the first half of 2025 by 26 per cent compared with a year earlier, police statistics show. The city's crime rates in 2024 were already their lowest in three decades, according to figures produced by the Justice Department before Mr Trump took office. 'We are not experiencing a crime spike,' Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser said Aug 10 on MSNBC. While the mayor, a Democrat, was not critical of Mr Trump in her remarks, she said 'any comparison to a war torn country is hyperbolic and false.' Mr Trump's threat to send in the National Guard comes weeks after he deployed California's military reserve force into Los Angeles to quell protests over immigration raids, despite objections from local leaders and law enforcement.
