EastEnders star engaged as she shows off dazzling diamond ring
An EastEnders star has announced the exciting news of her romantic proposal, as Gurlaine Kaur Garcha, who played Ash Panesar on the BBC One soap, showed off her diamond ring
EastEnders star Gurlaine Kaur Garcha has revealed she is engaged after a romantic proposal in Ibiza.
Former EastEnders star Gurlaine has revealed she's engaged after her partner popped the question on a dreamy Ibiza getaway. The 31-year-old actress, who played Ash Panesar in the BBC soap, shared the happy news with fans on Instagram, flashing a huge diamond ring while sipping a cocktail abroad.
'v happy & v engaged!!!!!!' she wrote, keeping the caption short and sweet. Although Gurlaine's kept her partner's identity private, she confirmed the romantic proposal took place while on holiday in Ibiza.
Her EastEnders co-stars were quick to show their love with her on-screen mum Balvinder Sopal, who plays Suki Panesar, commenting: 'Oh my days!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS BABY '
Gurlaine made her debut in Albert Square back in 2019 as Ash; a confident, no-nonsense doctor who immediately made an impression. She arrived as the first member of the Panesar clan, with her brothers and mum Suki introduced shortly after.
Her character quickly became a key figure in several dramatic storylines from tense family fallouts and fractured relationships to fast-paced scenes at the hospital. She was also part of a same-sex romance with Iqra, making Ash one of the few LGBTQ+ South Asian characters in soap at the time.
Ash wasn't afraid to speak her mind, often clashing with her mum Suki, whose controlling nature added even more fuel to their fiery dynamic. Her arrival was also seen as a big moment for representation, with viewers praising EastEnders for spotlighting a British Sikh woman in a lead medical role – something rarely seen on mainstream TV.
Gurlaine took a short break from the show in 2022 before officially bowing out in early 2023. At the time, soap bosses thanked her for her contribution, while the actress told fans she was 'excited for what's to come'.
Since then, Gurlaine's kept a low profile but still shares snippets of her life online - posting travel pictures, moments with friends, and positive messages with her followers.
And while she's stayed off-screen for now, fans will no doubt be thrilled to see her celebrating such a personal milestone.

Todd seriously concerned in Coronation Street as Theo story takes a turn
Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) is facing a complicated journey with Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) in Coronation Street. Shortly after Todd started seeing Theo, he learnt that he was in a relationship with a woman called Danielle (Natalie Anderson), and that they also have children together. As far as Danielle was concerned, she had no idea that Theo wasn't a straight man. Amid this, Theo has also opened up about his life before Danielle, revealing that his church had put him through conversion therapy when he was younger in an attempt to change his sexuality. The experience had scarred him and meant he was unable to accept himself, even at the same time as he was unable to deny his feelings for Todd. In tonight's episode, Todd and Theo headed to the pub for Glenda's (Jodie Prenger) drag night. The evening started off well, but Todd then realised Theo was quite distracted by his phone and texts from Millie, his daughter. Todd put Theo's phone on airplane mode, wanting him to enjoy the night a bit more. He ended up doing just this but when he reached for the device to swap numbers with Billy (Daniel Brocklebank), Theo discovered what Todd had done. As a result of having his phone off, Theo had missed the news that Millie was in hospital. He angrily confronted Todd which brought the mood down drastically. Outside, Todd gave Theo some space but then attempted to support him. Unfortunately, a furious Theo pushed Todd and said he would knock his teeth out, should he come anywhere near him again. After time passed, Theo arrived with Millie in tow. She was fine, but Theo revealed she wanted to stay with him after clashing with her mum. This wasn't a problem for Todd, as he was more focused on the fact Theo had returned. By way of an apology, Theo suggested getting a takeaway at the Bistro. Just as they sat down to wait, Todd went to the loo. While on his own, Theo was confronted by a person he did not recognise. The man turned out to be the drag act from the Rovers, only this time he wasn't wearing his alter-ego's outfit. Theo was confronted due to his behaviour in the pub, and he immediately went into a defensive mode after. As a result of trying to protect himself though, Theo reacted with anger and tipped his chair on the floor. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Who's leaving Coronation Street? Sabrina Carpenter considers new concert rule that would ‘piss off fans'
Sabrina Carpenter is considering a new rule for her concerts that she knows will 'piss off' fans. As the 26-year-old singer gears up to release her provocative new album Man's Best Friend, she's not just fending off backlash over the racy cover art, she's also weighing making a major change at her shows. The Espresso hitmaker recently sparked intense online debate after unveiling the artwork for Man's Best Friend, out August 29. In one of the images shared to Instagram, Carpenter kneels in a black minidress and heels, lifting a hand toward a man's trouser leg as he looms above her, gripping a fistful of her hair. A second image zooms in on a dog collar bearing the album's title. The photos split fans, with some hailing the bold visuals and tongue-in-cheek satire, while others called them 'disturbing' and 'uncomfortable.' Now, as speculation swirls that her sharp new single Manchild may be aimed at ex-boyfriend Barry Keoghan, Carpenter is contemplating another headline-grabbing move: banning phones at her shows. 'This will honestly piss off my fans, but absolutely,' she said of the idea of requiring phones to be locked in pouches, a tactic used by artists like Bob Dylan, Adele, and Madonna to help fans stay more present at concerts. 'Because I went to see Silk Sonic in Vegas, and they locked my phone. I've never had a better experience at a concert. I genuinely felt like I was back in the Seventies' she told Rolling Stone. 'Genuinely felt like I was there. Everyone's singing, dancing, looking at each other, and laughing. It really, really just felt so beautiful.' Carpenter, who came of age during the iPhone era, admits the omnipresence of phones at concerts feels normal but less than ideal. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video 'I can't blame people for wanting to have memories. But depending on how long I want to be touring, and what age I am, girl, take those phones away. You cannot zoom in on my face. Right now, my skin is soft and supple. It's fine. Do not zoom in on me when I'm 80 years old up there.' More Trending Sabrina has had a more tense relationship with her fans than usual recently, as many posted critiques of the new album cover. S She hit back recently after a Twitter user questioned whether she has 'a personality outside of sex'. Without skipping a beat, she quoted the post to add: 'Girl yes and it is goooooood.' Coronation Street star's house in Help! My House is Haunted
Beverley Callard, who played feisty Liz McDonald on the ITV soap for more than 20 years, will take part in the fifth series of Celebrity Help! My House is Haunted. The Discovery+ show will see a team of paranormal experts help six new spooked stars. Psychic medium Ian Lawman, tech expert Barri Ghai, and investigator Jayne Harris will aim to 'uncover the chilling secrets that are lurking in their homes'. And given Beverley's past with spooky goings-on, it will no doubt be a welcome show of support. Beverley as Liz McDonald in Corrie. (Image: ITV) Just last year, the 68-year-old posted an eerie video from her garden, leaving fans convinced it could be something supernatural. The actress shared footage from her barn's security camera that showed two strange orbs floating in the air. Beverley wrote in the Instagram post: "HELP!! What the hell is this? my ring camera in the barn alerted us at 1am this morning. "What are the two orbs? @jonmmac55 armed with a baseball bat went to investigate!! "Nothing there, upon returning checked the camera and they were back. OMG! I'm scared. Any help great fully appreciated." While some fans were quick to reassure Beverley, who now lives in Norfolk, that it may just be cobwebs, others said it could be the 'presence of restless spirits'. It's not the first time Beverley has shared her thoughts about paranormal activity, telling the Star in 2020 that she could often 'feel the presence' of her fellow former castmate, the late Anne Kirkbride, who played Deirdre Barlow. What happened to Liz McDonald in Coronation Street? In August 2020, Beverley announced that she would remain with the soap for another year and would return sometime in 2021 to film Liz's exit storyline, however, an exit was never filmed. New stars taking part in Celebrity Help! My House is Haunted Nancy Dell'Olio will feature in the new series.
