I Hiked the Alps in Comfy Teva Sandals—and Now I'm Eyeing These 12 Similar Pairs, From $30

Flip-flop culture is part of my DNA. As an Aussie, I was basically born to wear what we call thongs 365 days a year, whether I'm at the beach, park, or pub. As a frequent traveler who now spends all her summers in Europe, I pull out all my flip-flops and sandals and romp around cities like Zurich, Berlin, and Paris in open-toe shoes as soon as the sun peeks out. But I don't limit my sandal-loving lifestyle to just day trips around cities either: I also take hiking sandals on mountain hikes and run around some of Europe's famous national parks.
Packing these adventure-ready, comfortable sandals is an incredibly useful trick when traveling. Lightweight and easily packable, these shoes are durable for mixed weather conditions and super comfortable—sometimes just as comfy as sneakers. On my last trip around the Swiss Alps in Crans-Montana, I packed my Teva Women's Aventrail Shoes after reading that a pro-mountaineer tested them out on the Appalachian Trail. I was curious if they would withstand mild hikes in the Swiss Alps—and I wasn't disappointed. $145 at Zappos $145 at Teva.com
Crans-Montana has more than 320 kilometers (or just under 200 miles) of well-marked trails; I comfortably conquered many of them, including those with steep inclines, blister-free in these Teva sandals. Similar to a trail running shoe in terms of support and responsiveness, the sandal is very secure on your foot because of the special W strapping system, which offers multiple adjustable straps for ultimate customization to get the best fit. A durable spider rubber outsole provides superior grip for traction even on wet, slippery, or uneven terrain. $145 at Zappos $145 at Teva.com
Clearly, these Teva hiking sandals took my love for this type of adventure footwear to another level. Now, read on for 11 more pairs of comfortable hiking sandals to pack for city escapes, outdoor adventures, and beyond from Hoka, Merrell, Keen, and more, starting at $30.
If you're working with a budget, these lightweight sandals are a good pick and have a soft, contoured footbed ideal for stability and comfort (especially if you have flat feet), even if you walk in them all day. There is also a grippy sole that helps with traction on wet or rugged terrain without fear of slipping.
Basically, if you love Hoka running shoes, you are going to love these comfortable, highly supportive sandals. They're made with the same famous Hoka cushioning, so you know you will be comfortable in them, but there are additional add-ons like a deep heel cup for foot-cradling comfort, a quick-release strap, and a speed buckle to help you slip them on and off efficiently.
This Keen sandal has an eye-catching design that is more than just nice to look at. These shoes are highly durable and have a breathable mesh lining designed to limit the amount of odor-causing bacterial growth—so you can wear them over and over again on your next trip. $77 at Zappos $80 at Merrell.com
These cushy Merrell sandals have everything you want in a hiking shoe: the foam midsoles are lightweight and provide long-lasting comfort, while the outer soles have added durability thanks to the recycled rubber. Wear them on wet or dry surfaces without worrying about slipping. The simple design also makes them a versatile shoe for taking on walking tours, sightseeing, and even going out to eat.
Adjustable straps make these Chaco sandals easy to take on and off, but reviewers also rave about the comfort level of these hiking sandals, thanks to contoured footbeds. Shoppers say they're comfortable while walking for miles in them, and some mention wearing them for trail running and stepping over large boulders when outdoors. They'll also dry quickly, making them ideal for wet terrain too. $90 at Zappos $90 at Teva.com
Another favorite of mine from Teva are these sandal-like shoes that allow your feet to breathe during summer activities. They can also be used for water adventures like kite-surfing, wake-boarding, and even fishing (as I did with these sandal-shoes in Indonesia). I found them to be very comfortable and loved the easy-to-use hook-and-loop closure that allowed me to take them off quickly.
When I was in Spain last month, everyone was wearing the local brand Camper—so I decided to do the same. One of the more stylish hiking sandals out there, the Camper Oruga Up Sandal is made of recycled material and is easy to take off because of the hook-and-loop system. The slightly elevated-looking style of the high platform makes it a versatile shoe to have for the trails and exploring cities.
A hiking sandal that mimics a flip-flop but with much more comfort, the Bedrock Sandal is relatively flat for a minimalist footbed, but it still gives a lot of support for longer walks. Wear them hiking on gravel or grass, or put them on for kayaking or other water sports as they're designed to get wet and dry fast. $80 at Amazon $80 at REI $80 at Teva.com
This is one of the classic models Teva is known for, but with extra perks like quick-dry webbing and an EVA-foam midsole for added cushioning. Your foot will also feel stable hiking or walking over slippery rocks because of its special Durabrasion rubber outsole, which offers grippy traction. $110 at REI $110 at Merrell.com
Another great sandal-looking sneaker is this Merrell Maipo Explorer shoe, with breathable mesh linings and an elastic heel pull tab to allow for easy on-and-off action, perfect for kayaking, walking, or hiking outdoors. The dual-directional grooves in the midsoles improve the ground connection, so you feel more stable when walking, too.
Probably the most stylish sandal-shoe you can purchase that will also look good when walking around a city is the Keen Uneek Sneaker Sandal. It's comfortable because of its slightly snug fit, which means the sandal locks your foot in place nicely. The bungee cord and lace-lock toggle allow for instant security when you put your foot in, and the soft microfiber linings provide additional comfort for all-day wear.

Norqain Unveils A Colorful Ice Cream Themed Watch For Summer

The Norqain Freedom 60 Chrono 40mm 'Enjoy Life' Special Edition with stainless-steel bracelet Timed for summer, Swiss watch brand, Norqain, has released the Freedom 60 Chrono 40mm 'Enjoy Life' Special Edition. The watch brand describes it as 'a bright, playful take on the timeless sports chronograph, inspired by the fresh, joyful shades of gelato.' The motto printed on its sapphire crystal caseback reads, 'Enjoy Life.' It's the latest edition to Norqain's Freedom collection, a vintage-inspired line of watches with a connection to the great outdoors and adventure. The matt-finished white dial of the special edition timepiece has two design highlights: First, its three chronograph subdials at 3, 6 and 9 o'clock and their matching outer dial sectors appear in tones of green, pink, and blue, a first for the Freedom 60 Chronograph line. Second, on the first, eighth, 15th, 22nd, and 29th day of each month, the small date display between 4 and 5 o'clock swaps its numerals for an illustration of a three-scoop ice cream cone. Norqain says it's 'a cheerful reminder to treat yourself to an ice cream every week and embrace life's little pleasures.' The Norqain Freedom 60 Chrono 40mm 'Enjoy Life' Special Edition with rubber strap The black tachymeter scale on the outer ring is backed by green, pink and blue colors. The flat indexes are diamond-cut and rhodium plated, finished with white printings and white X1 Super-LumiNova markers. There's an anthracite Norqain logo below 12 o'clock. All the hands on the dial are diamond cut and rhodium plated. The hour and minute hands are also faceted and filled with white X1 Super-LumiNova. The watch is powered by the Norqain Caliber N19 (Sellita SW510 a), automatic chronograph movement with personalized Norqain oscillating weight and a 62-hour power reserve. The movement can be viewed through a sapphire caseback. The dial and movement are housed in a 40mm 316L polished stainless steel case with a thickness of 14.90mm. The screw-down crown with the Norqain logo and pushers are made of the same metal, as is the Norqain plate on the case's left flank. As a signature detail of all Norqain watches, this plate can be personalized with an engraving. The aesthetic portion of the watch is completed with either a stainless-steel bracelet with brushed center links and a steel clasp, or a white rubber strap with signature Norqain stitches and a steel pin buckle. Each timepiece comes in a special edition box designed to match the spirit of the watch and includes a pair of sunglasses. Beyond its bright palette, the timepiece is recognizable as one of Norqain's sporty everyday chronograph. Norqain will launch the timepiece Wednesday in Las Vegas with a pool party at the Hilton Resorts World. As one would expect, it will be an ice cream themed event. It's hosted by international watch and jewelry retailer, Bucherer. The launch of this Ice Cream watch will kick off in Las Vegas with an event that is designed to capture the spirit of the summer season. It will be the first of several events during the summer to bring attention to this watch. In a statement, Ben Küffer, Norqain founder of CEO, said the company's watches are design to 'inspire joy, and to create watches that make people feel good,' adding that the Freedom 60 Chrono 40mm 'Enjoy Life' Special Edition achieves this goal because 'It's summery, it's fresh and it puts a big smile on your face.' The watch with the steel bracelet (reference N2201.19S01.C01.S01) is $5,190. With the rubber strap (N2201.19S01.C01.R01), the price is $5,050.

James Blunt celebrates the 20th anniversary of his biggest hit that he calls ‘a bit creepy'

James Blunt's song 'You're Beautiful' is beloved, even though it's not about what some people imagine. The British singer recently shared a video and post on social media in which reflected on his hit earworm. '20 years ago today, I released a song that bought me this house,' Blunt said. 'Whoever thought a song about being high as a kite on drugs, stalking someone else's girlfriend would resonate quite so much? Thank you. You guys are beautiful.' The song off his 2004 debut album, 'Back to Bedlam,' became a worldwide hit in 2005. In 2020, the former British army captain wrote an essay for the Guardian about 'You're Beautiful' and talked about the inspiration for the tune. 'One day I was on the underground in London and saw an ex-girlfriend with her new boyfriend,' he wrote. 'Our eyes met, but we just walked past each other, and I went home and wrote the words to 'You're Beautiful' in two minutes.' He also addressed the disconnect between how the song came to be and how fans viewed it. 'It's always been portrayed as romantic, but it's actually a bit creepy,' he wrote. 'It's about a guy (me) who's high and stalking someone else's girlfriend on the subway. But everyone has those moments where you wonder: 'What if I'd said something?'' How beautiful is that?

World Aquatics bans athletes who participate in Enhanced Games

World Aquatics has banned any athlete, coach or official from participating in their events if they have endorsed or competed in the Enhanced Games. The federation, that governs swimming, diving, high diving, artistic swimming, water polo, and open water swimming, is the first to adopt a no tolerance policy in the face of the new competition that allows athletes to compete and train using performance-enhancing drugs. Advertisement The new World Aquatics bylaw came into effect on Tuesday. The federation president Husain Al Musallam said in a statement: 'Those who enable doped sport are not welcome at World Aquatics or our events. 'This new bylaw ensures that we can continue to protect the integrity of our competitions, the health and safety of our athletes, and the credibility of the global aquatics community.' This comes after Enhanced claimed Greek swimmer Kristian Gkolomeev set two 50m freestyle world records in May, earning a $1m bonus in the process. The president and founder of Enhanced Games, Dr Aron D'Souza, responded by questioning the intentions behind the ban. He said in a statement to The Athletic: 'This ban isn't about protecting athletes. It's about protecting a monopoly. 'World Aquatics hasn't paid its athletes for decades. Now, faced with real competition and real momentum, they've fallen back on threats and bullying tactics.' He maintained that the Enhanced Games will give the athlete something that the federations cannot: 'At the Enhanced Games, athletes have what traditional federations never gave them: choice, fairness, and real money. 'We offer a medically supervised, safety-focused, science-driven arena – where performance is rewarded, not policed by outdated ideology.' The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has condemned the new competition as a 'dangerous and irresponsible concept'. The organisation said the new competition would jeopardize the health and well-being of athletes — their main responsibility — as it seeks to 'promote the use of powerful substances and methods by athletes for the purposes of entertainment and marketing.' Enhanced has been financed by a venture capital fund backed by Donald Trump Jr and billionaire Peter Thiel since it was founded in 2023. The controversial organisation's inaugural competition is due to take place in Las Vegas between May 21-24, 2026 and spans five sports: track and field, swimming, gymnastics, weightlifting, and combat sports.
