Chief minister to visit Tirupati tomorrow
District Collector Dr S Venkateswar along with JC Subham Bansal and SP V Harshavardhan Raju on Thursday held a meeting at Tirupati airport on the arrangements including security and also reviewed the arrangements where the Chief Minister will participate.
The Collector said the Chief Minister will also visit Kapilatheertham and later the Corporation waste management project at Thukivakam village near Tirupati.
ASPs Ravi Manoharachari, Venkat Rao, RDO Rammohan, Ruia Superintendent Dr Radha and fire officer Ramanaiah were present.

CM Chandrababu to Launch Schemes on National Handloom Day in Mangalagiri
Mangalagiri: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu is set to visit Mangalagiri today (Thursday) to take part in a series of official programmes, including the celebrations for the 11th National Handloom Day. As part of the day's events, the Chief Minister will launch three key welfare schemes: free electricity for eligible weavers, GST reimbursement by the government, and a thrift fund initiative aimed at supporting the handloom sector. During his visit, Mr Naidu will tour the Mangalagiri Handloom Development Centre, where he will inspect looms and examine handloom fabrics created by local artisans. A review meeting on creative policy is scheduled to take place in the afternoon at the Chief Minister's camp office in Undavalli. Later in the evening, Mr Naidu will attend the P4 programme at the Novotel hotel in Vijayawada.

Cabinet nod for free bus travel for women
Vijayawada: The state Cabinet on Wednesday approved free bus travel for women across the state from August 15. Under the 'Stree Shakti' scheme, the government will provide free travel for women in nearly 75 per cent of the APSRTC's total operational fleet of 11,449 buses. The Cabinet also okayed the privatisation of 22 hotels and resorts of the AP Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) 'to improve service quality, operational efficiency, and revenue'. Other major decisions taken by the Cabinet, at its 27th e-meeting on Wednesday, chaired by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu at the Secretariat, included approval of the AP Land Incentive for Tech Hub (LIFT) Policy (4.0) for 2024-2029, aimed at attracting major IT companies by offering them land at a subsidised rate of Rs 0.99 per acre across the state. Information & Public Relations, and Housing Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy announced the decisions made by the Cabinet approving important proposals, with focus on fulfilling the coalition government's promises. Parthasarathy said that contrary to reports that 'Stree Shakti' would be implemented only in select districts with limited fleet, women will be allowed to travel free in a total of 8,456 buses. The scheme is expected to cost the government Rs 1,942 crore annually, or approximately Rs 162 crore per month. Services such as Palle Velugu, Ultra Palle Velugu, City Ordinary, Metro Express, and Express will offer free travel to women, benefiting approximately 2.62 crore women, girls, and transgender individuals annually. Each family could save up to Rs 1,000 per month through this initiative, the Minister said. Passengers will need to show an Aadhar, voter, or ration card as ID. The approval of the free bus travel scheme for women, aside from other significant schemes like NTR Bharosa and Thalliki Vandanam demonstrates the government's commitment to its promises, he observed. The Cabinet approved a proposal to select agencies to manage and operate 22 hotels and resorts of the APTDC. The corporation's properties will be divided into six clusters and handed over to private operators. The Cabinet also approved the cancellation of the land allotment to the Oberoi Group in Tirupati, following a request to this effect from the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Board and concerns expressed by locals about the need to maintain the sanctity of Tirumala. The government will now facilitate a land swap with TTD for the AP Tourism Authority (APTA) land. The Cabinet has also given its nod for an amendment to the AP Excise (Grant of Licences) Rules to allow "permit rooms" (in-shop drinking facilities) at A4 liquor shops for the 2024-26 licence period. The new policy will allow these rooms for a licence fee of Rs 5-7.5 lakh, generating estimated additional revenue of Rs 256 crore annually.

₹4.20-crore dhobi ghats in Tirunelveli are yet to be handed over to washermen
The dhobi ghats, which was built under the 'Smart City Mission' on an outlay of ₹4.20 crore at two places in the city to save the Tamirabharani river from getting polluted, are crumbling gradually as it is yet to be handed over to the washermen. Washermen, use detergents and other chemicals, to wash the clothes in Tamirabharani, the only drinking water source for four southern districts, thus polluting the orderly polluted river due to the discharge of domestic and industrial waste. To save the perennial river from being harmed further, the dhobi ghat was built at Karuppanthurai and Vannarpet by the Tirunelveli Corporation at a cost of ₹4.20 crore under the 'Smart City Mission'. The dhobi ghat in ward 11 has been created with spacious washing area with small tubs with water connection and proper drainage facility so that the grey water would drain properly without polluting the river. A high-mast floodlight has also been installed nearby to keep the area bright after dusk. Though this facility was formally opened by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on May 26, 2023, it is yet to handed over to the washermen for reasons best known to the Corporation. 'Now, this unused dhobi ghat is under the control of anti-social elements and drunkards who use the area for smoking and consuming liquor in the evening. So, we don't allow our children to go to the river in the evening for taking bath as they will have to cross this 'danger zone'. During the hot summer and the sunny days, it is the shelter for stray dogs and the cattle taking rest,' say the women living nearby. These 'illegal occupants' have damaged some of the pipes fitted in the washing area. Broken liquor bottles and goat droppings are strewn around. The stainless steel rails fitted in the dhobi ghat have also been damaged by the miscreants. Councillor of ward 11 S. Kandan is not even aware of this facility built in his ward. 'I haven't visited the dhobi ghat... I'll tell the officials to open it at the earliest,' Mr. Kandan said. Commissioner Monika Rana could not be reached for her comments. Mayor G. Ramakrishnan said he would visit the dhboi ghat immediately and take steps for putting it to use at the earliest. 'I'll visit the dhobi ghat tomorrow as the officials did not bring it to my knowledge. We'll repair the damaged pipes and other structures there and open it in near future,' said Mr. Ramakrishnan.
