Texas Rangers put outfielder Evan Carter on IL, recall outfielder Alejandro Osuna
The 22-year-old Carter went 0 for 4 with three strikeouts during Friday night's loss to the Seattle Mariners, and had gone only 4 for 34 since the All-Star break.
He also missed time this season because of a right quad strain. Carter is hitting .238 with four home runs and 21 RBIs this season.
Rangers manager Bruce Bochy lamented the loss of Carter ahead of Saturday's game, especially in conjunction with third baseman Josh Jung continuing to miss time because of calf soreness.
'Yeah, it's really incredible,' Bochy said. 'You look at the number of injuries. I mean, it hasn't stopped.'
Osuna, 22, has appeared in 29 games for the Rangers this season, hitting .164 with one home run and five RBIs. Additionally, first baseman Jake Burger, who has been sidelined since July 12 because of a left quadriceps injury, was sent to Double-A Frisco to begin a rehab assignment.

Kyle Tucker, Cubs Boss Reveal Superstar's Injury May Be Contributing to Slump
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Where has the Kyle Tucker the Chicago Cubs thought they could count on gone? Tucker suffered a finger injury on June 1 against the Cincinnati Reds, and the difference between the numbers he put up before and after that date is fairly staggering. In the 59 games up to and including that date, his OPS was .918. In 52 games since, it's .786. Tucker's slump has gotten particularly bad lately, and it's coincided with the Cubs going 9-9 since the All-Star break. He's hitting .212 with just a .308 slugging percentage since the second half began. Cox/Getty Images) More Cox/Getty No baseball player likes to use the injury excuse, but the reality is that it's hard to perform at your best if you don't feel your best. So how much is that finger injury actually affecting the superstar's performance? Tucker spoke to The Athletic's Sadahev Sharma about the injury in a piece published on Friday, trying to downplay its impact. "I mean, it's fine," Tucker said. "I gotta do my job regardless of how I feel. I'll just continue that the best I can." Sharma also spoke to Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer, who was more willing to admit that the injury was affecting Tucker one way or another. "I don't know how much is pain, discomfort, how much is bad habits you got into to compensate for something, and just how much is a slump," Hoyer said, per Sharma. "There's no question it's had some impact on him." Knowing that this could very well be the only year the Cubs have Tucker, the idea that he could be playing as a lesser version of himself is tough to swallow. Though it might cost them a shot at taking back the division from the surging Milwaukee Brewers, the Cubs' top priority should be getting Tucker whatever treatment he needs to be at 100% by the time October arrives. Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill has oblique injury, out of joint practice vs. Bears
The Miami Dolphins have shelved Tyreek Hill because of an oblique injury, holding the team's All-Pro receiver from participating in Friday's joint practices. It's unclear when the injury occured, though Hill sat out of Wednesday's practice with an undisclosed ailment. Other injuries to monitor include that of edge rusher Mo Kamara, who suffered a concussion and did not travel with the team, and fullback Alec Ingold. The 29-year-old fullback traveled with the team despite sustaining a concussion in the final moments of Sunday's practice. 'If he would have been the fastest protocol [clearance] in the history of America,' McDaniel said Friday. Ingold must participate in at least two practices without feeling the effects of his concussion to be cleared from the NFL concussion protocol. 'This turnaround for a joint practice wouldn't be best for a fullback.' Coincidentally, Hill sustained last year's wrist injury during a joint practice with the Washington Commanders. He was also limited during the joint practice with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year because of the wrist injury, which needed to be surgically repaired at the end of the 2024 season. His absence forced starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to lean on Jaylen Waddle and the rest of Miami's receiving corps, which features three receivers — Malik Washington, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine and Dee Eskridge — whom Tagovailoa need to develop better chemistry with. All three are pushing to earn significant roles in Miami's offense this season.
