Rulani Mokwena pens emotional letter to Wydad fans as he leaves the club
Rulani Mokwena has penned an emotional letter to Wydad Casablanca players, supporters and staff after his departure from the club after nine turbulent months in Morocco.
During his tenure, when he received persistent criticism from supporters and a section of former players, Mokwena was in charge of 27 Botola Pro League matches.
During his time in charge, he managed 11 wins, 12 draws and four defeats and was absent from the last three matches after being put on special leave.
Wydad ended the regular season in third place with 54 points from 30 games and because of this they failed to qualify for the Champions League for the second successive season.
'With heartfelt gratitude, I'm stepping away from my role at Wydad AC to embark on the next chapter of my coaching journey,' Mokwena said in the letter.

'Sundowns must recall Rulani' Former Kaizer Chiefs star
Former Kaizer Chiefs attacker Junior Khanye has advised Mamelodi Sundowns to bring back Rulani Mokwena. This comes after the Brazilians lost the CAF Champions League final to Pyramids on Sunday. Under Miguel Cardoso, Sundowns only defended the Betway Premiership but failed to win the Nedbank Cup and the Champions League. Mokwena, who was sacked in July, joined Wydad Casablanca but only survived for 10 months. Former Chiefs star Junior Khanye says Sundowns must bring back Rulani and part ways with Cardoso. 'If we can be honest, they signed him [Cardoso] because of the Champions League not because Rulani did anything wrong,' said Khanye on iDiski TV . 'So, they must get rid of him too. For me, I'd go to Rulani and maybe he too can humble himself as he is a free agent, come back and focus on your coaching because you are so talented, you are a genius.' Cardoso's style of play has been criticised, especially in the Champions League, where the club struggles despite reaching the final. Khanye feels Sundowns were playing better under Rulani hence Bafana Bafana's success. 'South Africa needs to hear me well on this one, with this gu,y it's not only Sundowns that benefits but the whole nation. We got to the AFCON because of Sundowns, whether someone doesn't believe this, I don't care because we are there because of Sundowns and Rulani took out the best out of those players. Credit to Pitso [Mosimane] for bringing in Rulani and Rulani for applying himself,: said the former Kaizer Chiefs winger. Confirmed: Talented Mamelodi Sundowns duo now free agents!
Fresh from losing in the CAF Champions League final against Pyramids, it could be time for change at Mamelodi Sundowns. Sundowns were yet again, not able to get over the line in their much coveted Champions League trophy pursuit. This despite all of the investment they had made in their playing squad over the years. Sundowns have been known to spend big money on top quality players every transfer window. All of this in an effort to finally get a second star on their jersey. But after yet another campaign where they fell short, it looks like another squad rebuild will be the order of the day. Firstly, Sundowns will not have much time to think about their Champions League final disappointment. This due to the ensuing FIFA Club World Cup in the USA this month. Already last month, club chairman Thlopie Motsepe confirmed no signings would be added to the side. But it seems certain that there will be exits ahead of the showpiece. According to agent Mike Makaab, his two clients in Sipho Mbule and Rivaldo Coetzee are now free agents. This comes after Sundowns opted against taking up an option to extend their contracts when they expire. 'What I can tell you that there were a number of players that we represent who Sundowns options on, and the majority of those have been exercised. However, the players who have not been exercised are Rivaldo Coetzee and Sipho Mbule. As of the first of June both players are free to join a club of their choice.' Said Makaab to Gagasi FM as per iDiski Times. Mbule was sent on loan to Sekhukhune United, where he had a mixed impact. He was eventually released early from his spell with Babina Noko, due to disciplinary reasons. Coetzee on the other hand continued his trend of injury ravaged seasons. It now looks as of Sundowns have finally decided to cut their losses on him. Sundowns fans do you believe releasing Mbule and Coetzee is the right move for the club?
