Stung by govt's PPP, BRS MP walks out of all-party meeting
Hyderabad: BRS Parliamentary Party Deputy Leader Vaddiraju Ravichandra on Wednesday announced his boycott of the state government's power point presentation, alleging it was organised with 'political malice.'
The BRS leader had initially attended the presentation delivered by Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy at the Secretariat. However, Vaddiraju Ravichandra walked out of the meeting in protest against what he termed the Congress government's 'political malfeasance' in organising a Public Private Partnership (PPP) on the Godavari-Banakacherla linkage project. MP Ravichandra unequivocally stated that undertaking this project is illegal and unjust, and that his party strongly opposes it. He urged the state government to strongly voice its case before the Centre on behalf of the people of Telangana, opposing this project proposal and calling for its immediate cancellation. Mr Ravichandra, who exited the meeting expressing strong objection to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's accusations against KCR without considering BRS's suggestions and recommendations, said that as per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, if a state undertakes a new project, it must discuss the project details in the Apex Council and obtain approval.
Ravichandra expressed regret that the Centre has taken steps to grant project approvals without convening an Apex Council meeting to discuss these actions taken by the Andhra Pradesh government in violation of the Reorganisation Act. 'We request the Chief Minister to write a letter to the Central Water Resources Department to immediately convene an Apex Council meeting.
These issues that are hurting the interests of Telangana should be taken to Delhi soon,' said Ravichandra. He further urged the government to convene a special Assembly session where a unanimous resolution should be passed to stop the Polavaram Banakacherla project and sent to the Centre. BRS leaders K Kishore Goud, B Ramamurthy, J Jagan Mohan and others were also present.

"Violates Fundamental Right": KTR Refuses To Give Phone To Telangana Officials
Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao has refused to submit his mobile phone or any other personal device to Telangana's Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) that is probing the Formula E race case. Mr Rao, who is popularly known as KTR, was issued a deadline to submit his mobile phones, laptops and other electronic devices that he used between November 1, 2021, and December 1, 2023, by Wednesday. He, however, wrote a 2-page letter to the investigating officer of the ACB, questioning the relevance and legality of the agency's asking for his personal devices. He also said he had changed his mobile phone in the first quarter of 2024 and did not have his old phone. He said he had not used any other electronic devices during that period. Mr Rao, the BRS working president, also cited his constitutional and legal rights that allow him to decline the demand made by investigators. He said he had appeared before the ACB on June 16 and answered all their questions for seven hours. The notice under Section 94 of the BNSS, KTR said, did not specify the reason or purpose for seeking these devices, nor did it say why they were necessary for the investigation. The investigating agency already had access to all official documents related to the case, he said, pointing out that he had taken all decisions in his official capacity as minister. KTR said asking for his personal devices violates his fundamental rights, personal privacy and protection against self-incrimination, guaranteed under the Constitution. The MLA from Siricilla said that if any electronic devices were to be examined, strict protocols laid down by the Supreme Court must be followed to avoid any tampering or misuse of data. A corruption case was lodged against Mr Rao, the former Telangana minister, last year in connection with alleged irregularities in the Formula E car race in Hyderabad. He has been accused of misusing government funds and his authority as the Municipal Administration and Urban Development minister.

Calcutta High Court Directs Centre To Resume MGNREGA In Bengal From August 1, 2025
In a major development, the Calcutta High Court has ordered the central government to restart the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA)scheme across West Bengal from August 1, bringing an end to its suspension that began in **March 2022 due to alleged irregularities. A Division Bench headed by Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam observed that centrally sponsored schemes cannot be kept in abeyance for an indefinite period. The court, however, granted the Centre the liberty to introduce special monitoring mechanisms in the state to ensure transparency and prevent future misuse of funds. The Centre had stopped MGNREGA funding to West Bengal in 2022 after discrepancies were reported in project execution. Out of 63 inspected sites, irregularities were confirmed at 31. While the state received over ₹7,500 crore under the scheme in 2021–22, it has received no funds since. In April, the High Court had asked the Centre to explain the prolonged suspension, asserting that the NREGA Act does not allow indefinite withdrawal of benefits, even if misappropriation is suspected. Initially, the court suggested restarting the scheme in unaffected districts, excluding areas like Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly, Malda, and the .GTA region in Darjeeling. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee welcomed the verdict and demanded that the Centre release all pending MGNREGA dues. She emphasized that the funds belonged to the people, not the government. Banerjee also clarified that the case was initiated by a civil society group, not her administration.
