Centre's statement nailed Cong govt's lies on public debt: KTR
Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the Centre's statement in the Parliament had shattered the Congress government's false claims on the outstanding public debt of Telangana under BRS rule. The Union government on Monday clarified that the State's debt at the end of the BRS tenure was Rs 3.5 lakh crore, not Rs.8 lakh crore as repeatedly alleged by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy along with Congress and BJP leaders. 'This is a slap in the face to Revanth Reddy and his gang, who peddled blatant lies to malign the BRS before the Assembly elections,' Rama Rao said, asking whether those leaders who spread false propaganda would now apologise to the people. In a statement, Rama Rao asserted that the BRS never indulged in reckless borrowing. Loans were channelled into long-term assets such as Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and other infrastructure works. As of 2023-24, Telangana's assets were valued at Rs 4.15 lakh crore, which was Rs 64,579 crore higher than its debt. He pointed out that for six consecutive years, assets had grown by over Rs 50,000 crore annually, which was proof of the financial discipline and vision under former Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. Turning the tables on the Congress, the BRS working president said Revanth Reddy was going on an aggressive borrowing spree without asset creation. 'By his own admission in the Assembly, Revanth Reddy has borrowed over Rs 1.5 lakh crore since December 2023. Where are the new projects? Where are the promised welfare schemes?' he asked, warning that chaotic fiscal management was driving Telangana toward a crisis. Rama Rao also urged the Congress leadership to stop hiding behind lies and focus on genuine development. 'The facts are now out in Parliament's own records. The people deserve the truth,' he said.

KCR to challenge ‘victimisation' by Ghose Commission in SC
Hyderabad: Taking a serious note of Justice P C Ghose Commission's findings against him, former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) has reportedly decided to challenge the findings in the Supreme Court. The probe panel has alleged irregularities in the construction of Kaleshwaram project and the damage caused to three barrages – Medigadda, Sundilla and Annaram. The BRS chief held an emergency meeting with senior party leaders, including T Harish Rao and B Vinod Kumar, in his farmhouse. The Ghose commission report, the pending court judgment on the disqualification of 10 BRS legislators, who defected to the ruling Congress party, and a proposed public meeting in Karimnagar on the BC quota issue were discussed in the meeting. Party leaders pointed out that KCR was taking exception to the Ghose Commission targeting him. The BRS party will file a petition in the Supreme Court and challenge the panel for giving its findings without cross examining the statements of Irrigation officials that were recorded during the open hearing, when it was binding on the Commission to bring out all facts pertaining to every recorded statement. Instead, the panel held KCR responsible without any evidence, whatsoever. The BRS leaders said that the apex court's intervention would help to counter the commission's 'unsubstantiated' findings. Rao has reportedly instructed the party's legal team to fight for the disqualification of all their defected MLAs by filing additional petitions in the apex court. It may be recalled that the Supreme Court has already directed the Assembly Speaker to act against the BRS MLAs for switching over to the Congress within three months. As KCR is apprehensive about the Speaker's actions, he has decided to challenge the issue in the court seeking disqualification of the 10 legislators. Rao has also given specific instructions to the party leaders to make the ensuing public meeting on BC quota a big success by mobilizing many people from the BC community. He intends to send across a strong message to the ruling Congress besides sounding a warning about an impending political unrest if the state government fails to fulfil the promise of providing 42 per cent quota to BCs in the local body elections.

Cong driving Telangana into crisis with 1.5L cr debt: KTR
1 2 3 4 Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao said that the Centre's response in Parliament has confirmed that borrowings by the BRS govt during its tenure amounted to only 3.5 lakh crore, and not 8 lakh crore as claimed by the Congress govt. He said the allegations made by chief minister Revanth Reddy regarding the BRS govt's debt were proven to be "blatant lies" on the floor of Parliament. KTR also added that the CM and other Congress leaders, who spread baseless propaganda to tarnish the BRS govt, would now hide their faces. In a statement issued on Monday, KTR said that as of March 31, 2024, the state's total debt stood at 3,50,520 crore. He asserted that the BRS govt never resorted to unnecessary borrowing; rather, loans were strategically utilised not only for welfare programmes but also for the creation of long-term assets meant to benefit future generations. These funds, he explained, were invested in key infrastructure and developmental projects such as Mission Bhagiratha, Mission Kakatiya, the Palamuru–Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, the Kaleshwaram Project, and other initiatives. According to KTR, the rapid progress of Telangana was the result of the BRS govt's financial discipline and efficiency under the leadership of K Chandrasekhar Rao. The BRS leader added that over the past six financial years (2018–19 to 2023–24), the value of state's assets increased by more than 50,000 crore annually, which he cited as evidence of sound governance. Criticising the current administration, KTR alleged that since assuming power in December 2023, the Congress govt has already borrowed more than 1.5 lakh crore through various channels. He added that CM Revanth himself acknowledged this borrowing on the floor of the assembly. The former minister demanded answers from the Congress govt regarding the purpose of these borrowings, noting that not a single new project has been initiated, nor have any promised welfare schemes been implemented. He warned that the Congress govt's "reckless and chaotic" financial management is pushing Telangana towards a serious fiscal crisis.
