AIIMS officer among 6 booked by CBI in ‘recruitment scam'

1 2 Bhubaneswar: Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a formal investigation into an alleged recruitment scam at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, revealing the involvement of an insider in the racket. A case was officially registered on Wednesday, and a copy of the FIR, made available on Friday, named six men, including an AIIMS officer, as accused. According to the FIR, Rajashree Panda, Sangram Mishra, Sai Sagar Kar and Sambit Mishra fraudulently secured permanent positions (group B and C posts) at AIIMS Bhubaneswar in 2023. Another accused, Sruti Sagar Kar, who operates a private company, allegedly assisted the four candidates — his family members and relatives — in obtaining forged educational and experience certificates. "AIIMS officer Sudhir Kumar Pradhan, serving as the assistant administrative officer (recruitment cell), is accused of colluding with the other five suspects in the fraud. Rajashree and Sangram were recruited as sanitary inspectors (Grade-II), while Sai and Sambit were appointed as medical record technicians (record clerks)," the FIR stated. During a preliminary inquiry that began in Feb-March, the CBI investigators discovered that Sruti facilitated the acquisition of forged educational and experience certificates for the four candidates from non-existent colleges and hospitals in Ghaziabad and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. "The investigation revealed that the colleges and hospitals, whose certificates were submitted by the candidates, did not exist. Additionally, serious irregularities involving AIIMS officer Pradhan were uncovered. He maintained contact with Sruti and concealed the fact that letters sent by AIIMS Bhubaneswar to the Uttar Pradesh addresses for certificate verification were returned undelivered. Pradhan deliberately did not report this to AIIMS higher authorities," the FIR added. AIIMS Bhubaneswar authorities said they are cooperating with CBI. "Our establishment has nothing to do with the recruitment irregularities. The test was conducted by a central PSU. We have handed over all requisite documents sought by the CBI and are fully cooperating in the probe," said Dr Dillip Kumar Parida, medical superintendent of AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Armed youth threatens girl's family with gun, held

ROURKELA: An armed youth landed in police custody after he allegedly tried to terrorise the family of a minor girl to win her love with coercion. The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Alangabahal under Lefripada police limits, about 130 km from Rourkela in Sundargarh district. Police said, the youth, brandishing a gun, landed in front of the girl's house and started intimidating the family, asking them to allow her to go with him. However, as villagers gathered and a commotion followed, he got scared and fled. The unemployed youth, later identified as Vishal Karta, belonged to Jhupurunga village under Hemgir police limits. Sundargarh SDPO Nirmal Mohapatra said the accused was in a one-sided love with the girl and approached her several times only to be rejected. The girl was recently forced to change her school because of Vishal's harassments. He then decided to escalate the matter and landed in front of the girl's house with a gun but things went awry on Wednesday. Police recovered the youth's bike from the spot and he was subsequently arrested with the gun in his possession. He told police that it was an old firearm and did not carry any ammunition. Investigation is underway to find its source. Vishal was booked under sections 296, 351 (3) and 78 (2) of BNS and sections 25 and 26 Arms Act and produced before a court.
