Armed youth threatens girl's family with gun, held
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Alangabahal under Lefripada police limits, about 130 km from Rourkela in Sundargarh district.
Police said, the youth, brandishing a gun, landed in front of the girl's house and started intimidating the family, asking them to allow her to go with him. However, as villagers gathered and a commotion followed, he got scared and fled.
The unemployed youth, later identified as Vishal Karta, belonged to Jhupurunga village under Hemgir police limits.
Sundargarh SDPO Nirmal Mohapatra said the accused was in a one-sided love with the girl and approached her several times only to be rejected. The girl was recently forced to change her school because of Vishal's harassments. He then decided to escalate the matter and landed in front of the girl's house with a gun but things went awry on Wednesday.
Police recovered the youth's bike from the spot and he was subsequently arrested with the gun in his possession. He told police that it was an old firearm and did not carry any ammunition. Investigation is underway to find its source.
Vishal was booked under sections 296, 351 (3) and 78 (2) of BNS and sections 25 and 26 Arms Act and produced before a court.

Shiv Sena woman worker accuses member of Thackeray-led faction of assaulting her
Mumbai, Aug 9 (PTI) A case has been registered here against a member of the youth wing of the Shiv Sena (UBT) for allegedly assaulting a woman office-bearer of the rival Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The alleged incident occurred during Narali Purnima celebration at Worli Koliwada on Friday when Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and local MLA Aaditya Thackeray and Shinde, along with their respective supporters, arrived at the same time, said an official of Dadar police station. According to the complaint filed by the woman worker of the Shinde-led party, somebody punched her in the back. When she turned around, she saw Yuva Sena member Siddhesh Shinde. A `non-cognisable' case was registered against Siddhesh under BNS section 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), the official said. Police can not make an arrest in a non-cognisable case without a court's permission. Siddhesh Shinde's father and Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Sunil Shinde said it was a politically motivated complaint, and the entire incident was captured by TV cameras. Aaditya Thackeray too dismissed the allegation. 'There was a wall of police between us. (Eknath) Shinde should stop ranting and making false complaints….It's their government after all and they can even book us by branding us as urban Naxals," Thackeray told reporters. Woman constable found dead, FIRlodged; autopsy indicates ‘foul play'
Pilibhit: Police in Pilibhit have registered an FIR under BNS section 108 (abetment to suicide) in the case involving the death of an SSB (Sashastra Seema Bal) woman constable on Aug 6, 2025. Cops claimed it was a case of suicide. However, the autopsy report says "there are over 10 injury marks on her body and her trachea". A senior officer said on Saturday that the FIR was lodged based on CCTV footage at the hotel in Dausa where the woman stayed with her family. The footage was later shared by Rajasthan cops. The woman, a resident of Jahanabad, Pilibhit district, died in Dausa under mysterious circumstances during her visit to Mehandipur Bala Ji temple with her family. Her family initially claimed that she died of illness but informed Pilibhit police that she committed suicide. CO of Pilibhit sadar circle, Vidhi Bhushan Maurya, said the FIR was filed based on a letter sent to SHO of Jahanabad by a deputy commandant of SSB, who termed her death as "unnatural". ASP Vikram Dahiya, meanwhile, said, "We will constitute a three-member panel of govt medical officers to review the autopsy report to reach a final conclusion about the actual cause of her death... We've lodged a zero FIR, which is to be transferred to Dausa police." Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
