Revanth Reddy bats for Bandaru Dattatreya, a Telugu OBC, for vice president post
He said the post should be given to Telangana as Telugu was the second-most spoken language in the country, and justice to the native speakers must be done.
Meanwhile, he termed as "unfortunate" the resignation of former vice president Jagdeep Dhankhar.
"The next Vice President should be from Telangana. Telangana deserves its due. You cannot do so much injustice to the people of Telangana. Telugu is the second most spoken language in India after Hindi, and then comes Bengali. Injustice has been done to our people.
"I have demanded that the NDA government appoint Bandaru Dattatreya as the next Vice President of India. If Dattatreya is made the vice president, then some of your sins will be forgiven," the Congress leader told reporters here.
Dattatreya was the Haryana governor during 2019-2021. He was made the governor of Himachal Pradesh in July 2021 and vacated that post on July 21 this year.
Reddy said he proposed Dattatreya's name because there is so much talk about OBCs these days, and Dattatreya, an OBC, was removed from the post of governor.
He said Bandi Sanjay was also axed as the BJP president of Telangana, as he termed both these leaders the main face of Telugu OBCs.
"They sent a person of Telugu-speaking person back home from Delhi (referring to former VP M Venkaiah Naidu). Then they removed Bandaru Dattatreya as governor and then removed Bandi Sanjay as Telangana BJP president," said Reddy, attacking the BJP-led Centre.
Asked if the Congress would support Dattatreya's candidature, he said, "I will try and help Bandaru Dattatreya and I will also request my leadership to support him too, but the Congress leadership will take a call on it."
Reddy also alleged that the country is in danger till the NDA government is in power, and it has to be removed.

3.15 crore persons getting fine rice now in Telangana under PDS: Uttam
HYDERABAD Minister for Civil Supplies and Irrigation N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has stated that there is no better welfare scheme than providing fine-quality rice to ration cardholders under the public distribution system, and Telangana is the only State in the country to do so. Speaking at a programme in Huzurnagar on Tuesday to distribute new ration cards, he said he was fortunate that the supply of fine-quality rice as part of PDS was launched in his constituency. The in-charge Minister for the combined Nalgonda district, A. Laxman Kumar, Commissioner of Civil Supplies, D.S. Chouhan, and others participated in the event. Alleging that the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government had neglected the issuance of new ration cards, Mr. Uttam Reddy said the Congress government would give new ration cards to every eligible family/household. He explained that their government had issued 7,95,685 new ration cards with a total of 33,97,367 beneficiaries. At the time of the Congress government assuming office, there were about 89 lakh ration cards in the State with a total of 2.81 crore beneficiaries. The number of beneficiaries has now gone up to 3,78,00,367 which has set a new benchmark in welfare governance by delivering food security, nutrition and social justice to over 80% of the State's population. Mr. Uttam Reddy recalled that the Fine Rice Scheme, which ensures 6 kg of fine-quality rice per person per month to every ration card holder, has emerged as the country's most ambitious and inclusive food welfare programme. He stated that over 1.85 crore people benefited from the first phase of fine rice distribution beginning in Huzurnagar and on expansion in ration card coverage, over 3.15 crore individuals were now receiving this entitlement regularly across the State.

Works on Handri-Neeva completed to transfer 3,850 cusecs through main canal, says Nimmala Ramanaidu
Andhra Pradesh Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu has announced the successful completion of works enabling the flow of 3,850 cusecs of water through the main canal of the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) project. At a review meeting on the progress of the Handri-Neeva and Veligonda projects via videoconference on Tuesday, Mr. Ramanaidu said, 'The NDA government has achieved in one year what the previous YSRCP dispensation could not in five years.' Even in Phase-2 of the Handri-Neeva project, works such as canal widening and lining had been completed, making it possible to channel 3,850 cusecs effectively. 'The people of Rayalaseema have offered the traditional 'harathi' to the Krishna waters flowing fully through the Handri-Neeva canal,' the Minister said. Referring to the delays in the branch canal works, Mr. Ramanaidu issued memos to two Executive Engineers, who allegedly failed to respond promptly in the Punganur and Kuppam Branch Canal sections. Referring to the Veligonda project, the Minister directed the officials and agency representatives to ensure that the tunnel lining and benching works were completed by June 2026. He also instructed the departments concerned to call for tenders for feeder canal works, lining, and retaining walls. Irrigation Special Secretary G. Sai Prasad, Irrigation Adviser M. Venkateswara Rao, Engineer-in-Chief Narasimha Murthy, Chief Engineers, Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers of the projects concerned, and representatives of the contracting agencies participated.
