ANPR cameras installed at eight locations in two blocks of Perambalur district
Perambalur District Collector Grace Pachuau inaugurated the monitoring room. Superintendent of Police Adarsh Pachera was present. The monitoring room will function round-the-clock and the police personnel at the facilitiy can see live video feeds of the road.
A total of 16 ANPR cameras have been installed under the Focus Block Development Programme 2024-2025 at a cost of ₹40 lakh at Chettikulam, Padalur, Allinagaram and Mangoon in Alathur block and Kaikalathur, Arumbavur, Veppanthattai and Devaiyur panchayat (Ranjankudi) in Veppanthattai block. The cameras are linked to the central monitoring room and would have backup for more than 30 days.
The ANPR cameras help the police track vehicles that are used in committing crimes besides in identifying those involved in road accidents. The cameras will zero-in on the registration number of vehicles passing through the road. In case of any information of crime being committed, an alert would be sounded to the field-level police personnel and to the highway patrol teams.
The Perambalur district police have five Highway Patrol teams deployed to cover important stretches such as Thirumandurai - Perambalur Four Road; Perambalur Four Road - Padaluir; Perambalur - Udumbiyam and Perambalur T. Kalathur, the sources added.

Collector instructs enhanced monitoring of urea usage
Ongole: Prakasam district collector A Thameem Ansariya has directed officials to ensure strict monitoring of urea allocated to the district, preventing its misuse for non-agricultural purposes. During a district-level coordination committee meeting held at her camp office in Ongole, Ansariya announced the formation of a multi-departmental committee comprising DSO, Industries, Labour, Excise, Pollution Control Board, DTC, Vigilance and Enforcement, Police, and Agriculture officials. The collector ordered comprehensive inspections in coordination with the civil supplies department, plywood/resin and paints/varnish manufacturing units, industries, and pollution control departments. She instructed continuous surveillance through Vigilance, Transport, and Police departments to prevent unauthorised transportation of subsidised urea to neighbouring states. The officials explained to the collector that for the current Kharif season (April-August), the district requires 54468 metric tons of urea. Currently, 30597 metric tons remain available after distributing 30565 metric tons from the 34051 metric tons supplied so far, they informed.

Over 5,450 CCTV cameras integrated under unified control room
PUNE: In a major step towards smart policing plus real-time traffic management, over 5,450 CCTV cameras installed by the Pune Metro, Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and Smart City Mission are being integrated for the first time on Friday, August 22, 2025 under the unified control room to enable the city police keep a vigilant eye on overcrowding, traffic congestion, accidents and crime among others. (Photo by Shankar Narayan/HT PHOTO) Of the total more than 5,450 CCTV cameras – 2,000 installed by the PMRDA in the villages merged with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) not very long ago – have already been connected to the ultramodern control room of the city police based in Shivajinagar. As such, these cameras which had so far remained underutilised are now supplying a continuous stream of live data. Furthermore, another 3,000 CCTV cameras – installed by the Pune Metro along major metro routes such as Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate and Vanaz to Ramwadi – are also now under the purview of the city police. Additionally, around 450 CCTV cameras – installed by Pune's Smart City Mission mainly in the Aundh-Baner-Balewadi area – are now helping the city police improve patrolling and turnaround times. The Smart City Mission had initially installed these cameras to cover around 950 acres which was later expanded to nearly 2,500 acres to include more neighbourhoods. The CCTV cameras have been installed along key bends and isolated stretches of high-risk zones such as Bopdeo Ghat to keep track of speeding and dangerous driving. Bopdeo Ghat has also been equipped with night-vision cameras and automated number plate recognition (ANPR) systems to help the police track suspicious vehicles and curb criminal activities in the area. The integration marks the first coordinated effort to centralise and utilise these CCTV camera feeds effectively. Assistant commissioner of police/ACP (information technology) Vivek Pawar explained that technical challenges such as disconnections during the monsoon caused by trees falling on overhead cables have now been resolved. 'We have laid a network of underground fibre optic cables which has ensured seamless data transmission. The control rooms of the Smart City Mission, PMRDA and Pune Metro are now linked to the main police control room, enabling smooth processing of data. All CCTV footage is now recorded on the police servers for analysis and reference. The unified CCTV network will not only boost traffic regulation capabilities but also significantly enhance the city's crime surveillance system, marking a significant leap in Pune's smart city journey,' Pawar told Hindustan Times. Whereas additional commissioner (eastern region) Manoj Patil said that the data is also being shared with the PMC's advanced traffic management system (ATMS) project under the Smart City Mission. 'This integrated approach allows us to provide real-time solutions without delay, ultimately helping citizens experience smoother commutes,' Patil said.

4 Maoists lay down arms in Kondagaon
Raipur: Four Maoists including a couple, surrendered before police in Kondagaon district of Bastar division in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday. They carried a combined bounty of Rs 22 lakh. Police officials said the surrendered cadres include Laxman Koram alias Junnu and Sakharam worth Rs 8 lakh bounty each, Koram's wife Maddo alias Zarina carrying cash reward of Rs 5 lakh, and Panduram, Rs one lakh. All four were active in Kondagaon, Kanker, Bastar, Dantewada and Manpur-Mohla regions, and were allegedly involved in incidents of firing on security forces, murders of civilians, loot, IED blasts, arson, and destruction of govt property. According to police, sustained operations by security forces, rising internal differences within the Maoist organisation, and the desire to rejoin mainstream society led to the surrender. Each surrendered Maoist was given an immediate incentive of Rs 50,000 under the Chhattisgarh surrendered Naxal rehabilitation policy, with further rehabilitation benefits to follow. The surrender ceremony was held at office of Kondagaon Superintendent of Police Y Akshay Kumar, in presence of senior officers, including CRPF Commandant Bhavesh Choudhary. Bastar range IG P Sundarraj said the success reflects the combined impact of sustained anti-Maoist operations, community policing, and effective communication of the state's surrender and rehabilitation policy.
