Browns develop new nickname for their future home in Brook Park

USA Today02-07-2025
The Cleveland Browns have officially announced that they will build a new stadium in Brook Park, OH, which is scheduled for completion in 2029. With this announcement comes a new nickname for the future home of the Cleveland Browns.
Along with detailed renderings of how the Browns envision the future of Brook Park, they also released their new 'Brownstown' nickname for the site. With many fans feeling as if the Browns franchise is leaving Cleveland once again, the promotion of the new nickname aims to win over those who oppose the move to the new stadium.
The team quietly introduced this nickname with the reveal of their upcoming 10-part podcast series, Building Brownstown, which will likely cover the Browns' preparations and provide a behind-the-scenes look at the construction of the new Huntington Bank Field. The podcast is expected to feature team owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam, discussing their decision to relocate the team out of downtown Cleveland.
The Browns franchise received the green light for their Brook Park plans after Ohio Governor Mike DeWine officially signed the state's two-year budget, which includes $600 million for the Browns' new domed stadium. The team will likely continue promoting the 'Brownstown' nickname as construction of the new stadium begins.

Cleveland Browns reveal preseason starting QB plans for Dillon Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders

One of the driving storylines in the NFL preseason so far has had to do with the Cleveland Browns and their quarterback situation. After drafting both Oregon Ducks' star Dillon Gabriel and Colorado Buffaloes star Shedeur Sanders, there has been some notable intrigue into what the Browns plan to do this year, especially with guys like Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett in the room as well. In the first week of the preseason, Sanders got a jump on the QB competition, while Gabriel was sidelined with a hamstring issue. In a win over the Carolina Panthers, Sanders completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdown passes. He also added 19 yards on the ground before being replaced in the third quarter by newly signed Tyler Huntley. Going into Week 2 of the preseason, though, the Browns are looking to get Gabriel into the mix as the starter, assuming he is healthy. According to Mary Kay Cabot of the plan is for Gabriel to start the game on Saturday against the Philadelphia Eagles if he is healthy enough to play. If not, then Sanders will get the start once again. Asked if Sanders would get the start if Kenny Pickett and Gabriel are unable to due their hamstring issues, Stefanski said, 'Yeah, I guess if those guys could not play, yes, and we're working through that. The Browns plan to continue to monitor Gabriel's status throughout the week as they prepare for the game against Philadelphia, hoping that he can get healthy enough to play this weekend. If he is able to go, the Ducks' former QB will have a chance to show what he's capable of and potentially move ahead in the QB competition before the season begins next month. Dillon Gabriel remains ahead of Shedeur Sanders on Browns' latest depth chart

The Cleveland Browns released their second depth chart of the summer, with it remaining unchanged from a week ago despite Shedeur Sanders' impressive performance in their preseason opener. That leaves former Oregon Duck Dillon Gabriel sitting in the No. 3 spot, behind former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco and 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett. Neither played in the Browns' first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers, with Pickett and Gabriel dealing with injuries. That left Sanders as the starter, who completed 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdown passes. He also added 19 yards on the ground before being replaced in the third quarter by newly signed Tyler Huntley. Huntley was added to the roster as an extra arm amid the injuries to Gabriel and Pickett. Despite his standout effort that made national headlines, Sanders remains behind Gabriel, Pickett and Flacco on the depth chart, occupying the fourth spot. It's not hard to argue against, as Flacco didn't play in the game and Pickett, who was acquired by the Browns in the offseason after serving as the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles' backup, is nursing an injury. As for Gabriel, he was selected in the third round at 94th overall in the 2025 draft. Sanders went in the fifth round at 144th overall. Per usual NFL protocol, the depth chart will likely remain unchanged until each passer gets on the field and is given a chance to showcase themselves. But if Sanders' performance is worth anything, he certainly raised the bar for not only Gabriel but each of the players in the Cleveland quarterback room. Browns Will Start Shedeur Sanders Again Under One Condition

Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. In the eyes of pundits, fans, and analysts, Cleveland Browns rookie Shedeur Sanders proved himself in his first NFL start. The young signal caller put together some impressive plays with his legs, and showcasing some tight-window touchdown passes. More news: Jon Gruden Wastes No Time Picking the Best Current NFL Quarterback Sanders ended his first preseason start with 14-for-23 attempts,138 yards, two touchdowns, four carries for 19 yards, and a 106.8 passer rating. Despite a couple of mistakes like holding the ball for too long or taking a costly sack, Sanders showcased why he was initially expected to be a high draft pick. Instead, he fell to the fifth round and is fourth on the Browns depth chart for the second week in a row. Despite everyone clamoring for Sanders to be the starter, things are not that easy. However, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed that Sanders will start in Week 2 of preseason under one condition. The #Browns will start Shedeur Sanders again vs. the Eagles on Saturday if Dillon Gabriel (hamstring) and Kenny Pickett (hamstring) both remain out, per HC Kevin Stefanski. — Ari Meirov (@MySportsUpdate) August 13, 2025 According to reports, Sanders will start only if Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel remain out due to their hamstring issues. Sanders has a good chance to start, considering both Pickett and Gabriel have been dealing with hamstring issues. Further reports indicate that Gabriel is far more along than Pickett, so the world could see the Oregon product also make his NFL debut this weekend. Photo byMore news: Dan Orlosvky Pleads for Browns to Change Shedeur Sanders' Status NFL insider Lance Reddick also commented on the situation, stating that the Browns are doing their due diligence and will still allow Gabriel some valuable playing time. The idea is to either prove or disprove that Gabriel belongs third on the depth chart. "In the pre-draft process and the pre-draft run-up, they had him [Gabriel] graded ahead of Shedeur. They did, that's why they selected where they selected him. The fact that they haven't been able to look at him yet, and it's only Week 1 of the preseason. They are saying, 'Hey, look, let's just keep it the way it is, let's give Dillon a chance to prove that he does need to be moved down," Riddick stated. Essentially, Riddick is stating that the Browns will allow Gabriel the chance to showcase his skills, which is not at all shocking. Should he not play nearly as well as Sanders, then the pair could swap places on the depth chart. Pickett has also yet to play, so the Browns don't quite know whether or not he is the right choice as the backup. Quarterback battles can be tricky and come down to the wire, and that is especially true for a team that is carrying four quarterbacks on the roster. Pickett and Gabriel should get their chance to play, but if they cannot muster the same command of the offense that Sanders did, he could rocket up the depth chart in no time.
