Casual chat turns into nightmare for Ackerville man
Mahlathini said the incident took place around 23:00 on June 20.
He had stopped at the shisanyama to buy water when a woman approached him, claiming she knew him.
'She came up to me and said she recognised me. We spoke for a bit, and then she asked if we could sit and talk in my car,' Mahlathini said.
Once inside his own car with the woman, things quickly took a dangerous turn.
'I didn't even realise she had spiked my drink,' he explained. 'As I was talking to someone else I knew nearby, I started feeling dizzy and unwell.'
Sensing that something was wrong, Mahlathini told the woman he needed to go home and get medication. She accompanied him back to his house.
'I was only inside for maybe two minutes before we drove back to the shisanyama,' he said. 'I told her I wasn't feeling well at all and needed to go home and sleep. That's the last thing I remember.'
Mahlathini blacked out and only regained consciousness the next day. What he found was devastating.
'The front door was open. Everything was gone; they stole all my electronics, food from the fridge, and even clothes. My blue VW Polo Vivo was also gone.'
He later discovered, through his tracker, that the vehicle had been traced to Soshanguve.
He believes the woman was working with a group.
'She was definitely not alone. This was planned. People must be very careful who they talk to, even if someone says they know you,' Mahlathini said.
The matter has been reported to police, and a case has been opened. No arrests have yet been made.

Police catches alleged armed robber after high speed chase
Police have arrested a Mozambican national following a farm robbery last week near the Kusile Power Station. The arrest came after a high-speed chase that led to the recovery of stolen vehicles and other property. 'The driver, a 35-year-old Mozambican national, was arrested at the scene,' Ndubane said. Following his arrest, police conducted a preliminary investigation that led them to Bronkhorstspruit, where more of the stolen property was recovered. The suspect has been charged with house robbery and contravention of the Immigration Act. He is expected to appear in the Delmas Magistrate's Court on August 18. Head-on collision on R555 claims two lives
The R555 was closed for almost four hours following a horrific head-on collision between a Ford Fiesta and a BMW. The driver of the Ford Fiesta and a baby, also from the same car, died on the scene. The driver of the BMW, Nhlanhla Madi sat motionless and watched as emergency personnel tended to the third victim, a woman who was a passenger in the Ford Fiesta. An eyewitness who drove behind the BMW said the driver of the Ford Fiesta allegedly tried to overtake a bakkie and lost control. 'The Ford Fiesta nipped the back of a trailer, and when he tried to swerve back, he lost control and smashed the BMW head-on.' The eyewitness did not want his name mentioned. One suspect arrested after Horizon shopping centre robbery
One of four suspects who robbed a store at the Horizon Shopping Centre on Friday, August 15, was arrested after trying to flee the scene. According to Jacques Norton from Beagle Watch Security, the robbery took place at about 15:30 while he was patrolling the area. 'I received information that a business robbery was in progress. As I approached the store, I saw four suspects coming out. A chase ensued down Sonop Street, where they collided with a VW Polo Vivo. The collision occurred at the traffic lights at Sonop and Adderley streets. No fatalities were reported. 'After the accident, the suspects tried to flee again, running in different directions. Backup was called from other security companies, and one suspect was caught near a railway station,' he added. The whereabouts of the other three suspects remain unknown. One firearm was recovered. It has not yet been confirmed what was taken from the shop.
