The Moti Nagar Police booked a resident of Bonkar Dogra village for raping a 17-year-old girl of the same village.
The first information report (FIR) has been lodged following the statement of the father of the minor girl. The complainant stated that his daughter is pursuing a course in cookery from a local institute. On Friday, when she returned home in the evening, she was distressed. When asked, the girl revealed that the accused had intercepted her near the institute. The accused took her to a hotel on a bike and raped her. Later, the man fled after dropping her near Jamalpur Chowk.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Anil Kumar, who is investigating the case, stated that soon after receiving a complaint, the police lodged an FIR under Sections 64 of BNS and section 4 of Protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) Act. A hunt is on for the arrest of the accused.

Three police officers suspended in Pathanamthitta

Three police officers in Pathanamthitta district have been suspended in connection with two separate incidents. Konni Deputy Superintendent of Police T.K. Rajappan and Circle Inspector and Station House Officer P. Sreejith were suspended for alleged negligence in handling a POCSO case involving a lawyer as the accused. The suspension, issued by the Home department, followed a report by the District Police Chief that confirmed delay in registering the case and failure to take timely follow-up action. The key accused in the case, identified as Naushad, a lawyer, is alleged to have sexually abused a 16-year-old girl with the help of a relative of the survivor. Despite the girl's father filing a complaint in August last year, the case was registered only after a delay of three-and-a-half months. Koipram Circle Inspector G. Suresh Kumar was suspended following allegations of custodial assault that allegedly led to the suicide of a 57-year-old Dalit man. K.M. Suresh, a resident of Varayannur in Pathanamthitta, was taken into custody on March 16 for allegedly smoking ganja. Six days after his release, Suresh was found dead hanging from a tree on a plantation, 25 km from his residence, under the Konni police station limits. The post-mortem examination revealed multiple injuries, including broken ribs and bruises, consistent with being beaten with a blunt object. The victim's family raised suspicions over custodial abuse and alleged foul play, leading to public protests. Following this, a high-level inquiry was instituted into the incident.

Delhi High Court Allows Family Of Minor Sex Abuse Survivor To Close Case

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court quashed a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case after the survivor and her family requested the court to close the case as they were seeking a marriage prospect for the girl and now wish to move on. While quashing the case, the court has directed the accused to do community service for a month at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, while also asking him to pay Rs 50,000 towards "Army Welfare Fund Battle Casualties". The court noted that ordinarily, allegations of this nature, particularly those involving the sexual harassment of a minor, would not merit quashing. The accused, along with another minor boy (recognised as child in conflict with the law), had blackmailed the minor girl with her private pictures, which she had shared with the accused during their relationship in school. The accused, who was her senior in school, had allegedly extorted money from the girl. It was alleged that after the accused shared her pictures with another schoolmate of hers, he (child in conflict with law) hacked her Instagram and uploaded her private pictures on her account. The court noted that the allegations against the accused are serious, involving the harassment of a minor girl through exploitation. "The facts narrated disclose a pattern emblematic of the darker undercurrents of the social media age, where technology is misused to exert control, induce fear, and compromise dignity. Considering this, at the outset, the Court was not inclined to quash the FIR in a perfunctory manner. However, after a detailed and careful interaction with the complainant and her mother, it emerged that they have consciously chosen to move on from the incident," the order read. The high court noted that the survivor's parents said that the complainant is currently exploring matrimonial prospects, and that the pendency of a criminal case may pose as a serious impediment to her future opportunities and personal relationships. "Her mother specifically submitted that ongoing criminal proceedings of this nature are likely to create social stigma and could undermine the family's efforts to secure a suitable match for the complainant," the order read. A bench of Justice Sanjeev Narula quashed the case, stating that, "It is true that while offences under Sections 354, 354C, 384 of the IPC and Section 12 of the POCSO Act are classified as non-compoundable, those under Sections 506 and 509 IPC are compoundable with the permission of the Court, being offences affecting an identifiable individual." "However, the law is equally cognizant of the victim's right to privacy, dignity, and closure. In appropriate cases, the Court, while exercising its inherent powers under Section 528 of the BNSS (earlier Section 482 CrPC), may quash proceedings involving non-compoundable offences where the parties have voluntarily and meaningfully settled the dispute, and where the continuation of the prosecution would serve no useful purpose and would instead prolong trauma," the order read. The FIR was registered for the offences under Sections 354, 354C, 506, 509, 384 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. A settlement deed was entered into between the parties, as per which the complainant voluntarily resolved all her disputes with the accused and agreed to give no-objection to the quashing of the FIR. It was recorded that she had neither received any monetary compensation from the accused, nor intended to claim any.

Cyberabad cops arrest constable, 5 others amid bid to sell cocaine mixed with ephedrine; drug worth Rs 1 crore seized

The Cyberabad police Tuesday arrested six people, including a police constable, while they were attempting to sell drugs such as cocaine mixed with ephedrine. According to the police, the accused were intercepted near Jaya Nagar, Kukatpally while they were looking for buyers, and 820 grams of the drug, worth Rs 1 crore, was seized from them. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the alleged mastermind, Gunashekar, a serving police constable with the task force in Andhra Pradesh, proposed the sale of ephedrine for profit. Unnam Surendra, another accused, joined the scheme reportedly lured by the prospect of easy money, the police said. Along with associates Dothireddy Haribabu Reddy, Chegudi Mercy Margaret, Shaik Masthan Vali, and Devaraju Yesu Babu, they conspired to sell the drug in Hyderabad where the demand for it is high. According to the police, Surendra collected 820 grams of the cocaine-ephedrine mixture from Gunashekar in Tirupati on May 29, 2025, and then travelled to Hyderabad via Guntur. The group assembled at Jaya Nagar, Kukatpally, to distribute the contraband. On Monday, while the group was moving towards Bhagyanagar in search of potential buyers, a patrolling police team intercepted them due to their suspicious movement and behaviour. Although one of the accused attempted to flee, they were all promptly apprehended. Upon questioning and a subsequent search, the police team allegedly recovered the 820 grams of cocaine-ephedrine, along with a digital weighing machine and the mobile phones used by the accused. The seizure was conducted in strict adherence to procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to identify any other individuals involved in this drug network. The investigation revealed a prior association between Surendra and Mercy, a former employee of Keerthana Finance in Kandukur, Prakasam district, officers said. Surendra had previously referred customers to Mercy for gold loans, receiving commissions for these referrals. A subsequent financial dispute arose between Surendra, Mercy, and Mercy's friend Shaik Masthan Vali concerning the repayment of a personal loan, according to N Koti Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (in-charge), Balanagar zone. Dothi Reddy, a mutual friend of Surendra and a road contractor from Karlapalem in Bapatla, attempted to mediate this dispute. During the mediation, Dothi Reddy informed Mercy about the possibility of a drug deal. Mercy then discussed this with her friend, Devaraju, a private loan agent from Addanki. Devaraju reportedly claimed to have contacts in Hyderabad interested in purchasing the drug, thereby linking the transaction to their pre-existing financial disagreements, the police added.
