Jermaine Jenas was ‘prepared to be unhappy for the rest of his life' to stay with wife before she divorced him
JERMAINE JENAS has admitted that he would have been willing to be "unhappy for the rest of his life" in order to stay with wife Ellie Penfold.
Ellie announced her split with former Tottenham and England star Jenas in March.

Their break-up came six months after Jenas was axed by the BBC following a sexting scandal.
The 42-year-old was relieved of his services by the Beeb after being accused of sending X-rated texts to two female colleagues.
Jenas, who has four children with Ellie, went on to admit to sending the messages, but stressed that the texts were consensual and that he had not broken the law.
The former One Show host told The Sun that Ellie was "raging" following the allegations - but that he hoped to work through their issues.
In March, however, Ellie took to Instagram to reveal that their marriage was over after 14 years.
Jenas, who returned to punditry work with talkSPORT in February, has now opened up on his marriage ending during an appearance on the Filthy Fellas podcast.
Speaking candidly about his break-up, Jenas said: "It was her decision and one that I had to accept.
"If it was up to me - and I think a lot of men are like this - I'd probably be prepared to be unhappy for the rest of my life if [it meant] I had my kids in it. If I have my kids, I'm quite happy to sacrifice."

Jenas then went on to add: "It's a man thing. Relationships are what they are - they have highs, they have lows and people cheat - some people do, some people don't, but you figure a lot of things out.
"The reality is we both were in a position where we were like 'are we really happy?'
Jermaine Jenas says he's 'coming back a better person' as he returns to talkSPORT after 'inappropriate' texts
"From her side of things, she'd ran the course more than probably me. But I was much more happy to go 'I'll be unhappy if I can stay in this house with you and these kids'.
"It wasn't to be for her, so we went our separate ways and that is that."
Speaking frankly about the situation, Jenas said of why he and Ellie broke up: "The reality is, me and my wife haven't split up because I sent some text messages to some people at work.
"We had issues for a period of time, it all comes to a head and you eventually make a decision to say, as adults, we will be better parents for our children if we just remain friends and that's it.
'DRAGGED ME OUT THE GUTTER'
"We had 16 amazing years together, me and my wife, how many people last that long? Sixteen years. Ups and downs. She caught the wrong end of my [playing] career, bless her.
"She was the one that dragged me out of the gutter when my knee was hanging off, career done. She's the one that picked me back up and gave me the belief and the strength to go 'get yourself back out there, I believe in you'."
Upon his return to talkSPORT in February, Jenas vowed to learn from his mistakes.
'WORK ON YOURSELF'
The former Match of the Day pundit said: "The biggest thing in this whole situation is about taking responsibility and that has been at the forefront of my mind…
"There's a reason why you're in this position and there's a reason why this has happened.
"Once you accept those things, then you can work on yourself and you can work on the other things and you can work on your family and work towards a brighter future.'
Confirming their split a month later, Ellie wrote on Instagram: "I never imagined I would have to share something so personal with the public, but given the situation, I feel it's necessary.
"After 16 years together and 4 wonderful children, Jermaine and I have decided to part ways. We will remain friends and continue to co-parent.
"We kindly ask that you respect our children's privacy during this challenging time. Thank you, Ellie."

THE King, Queen, Kate and Wills are leading the royals at Order of the Garter ceremony today - as disgraced Andy misses the bash for the sixth year running. The ceremony at St George's Chapel celebrates a 700-year-old chivalric order. 2 Andrew has been part of the order since 2006 but not been in the public procession since 2019 - shortly before his car crash Newsnight interview. Both 2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to Covid and in 2022 he was abruptly banned from appearing in public just hours before. In recent years he had attended private aspects of the ceremony including an investiture and reception. The royals and other members of the garter - which is the oldest chivalric order in the UK dating back 700 years and based on the Knights of the Round Table - walk from Windsor Castle to the ceremony. Afterwards, they will catch carriages back up the hill for private meetings. Hundreds of revellers are camping up in the castle grounds for the event. Tyson Fury heads off to business meeting still wearing Primark Soccer Aid suit after dropping F-bomb live on ITV
TYSON FURY was still wearing his Primark suit a day after Soccer Aid - as the boxing legend headed off to a business meeting. The former heavyweight world champion shared England managerial duties with Wayne Rooney against the star-studded World XI. 3 Irish retailer Primark have been partnered with Soccer Aid since 2021 and this year designed stylish grey suits for England and beige for World XI. And Fury, 36, loved the outfit so much he was still wearing it a day later posting on Instagram: "Off to a business meeting now. "I've got my England managerial suit on, get up! Might get the job, who knows?" Fury had fans in stitches when he accidentally swore twice live on ITV when geeing up his England squad. He roared: "Seventy-five thousand sell-out. Unicef a great cause. Let's not forget these Three Lions on the floor. "Let them know how good we are. We are England. We are f***ing Spartans." Alex Scott said: "We apologise for the swearing." Fury then swore AGAIN in the middle of the first half - prompting another apology from ITV - with Scott promising to "have a word with him afterwards". Fury watched on as England blew a 3-0 lead to lose 5-4 - with former Manchester United star-turned-City legend Carlos Tevez scoring FOUR. But the boxing great - who retired in January - said on his morning run: "We didn't get the result they wanted but everybody played well and played hard. Alex Scott and Dermot O'Leary forced to apologise as Tyson Fury swears live on ITV during Soccer Aid coverage "We raised a lot of money for a great cause. Very proud of everybody who took part and well done to everybody, especially Carlos Tevez, wow! "Banging in hat-tricks and stuff, he's still got it. Had a fantastic day, big shout out to all the organisers, Unicef and Soccer Aid." Amazingly, £15million was raised for the children's charity in what was the 14th annual game. 3

Aaron Taylor-Johnson shows off his wacky new look as he poses up a storm with Jodie Comer at the London photo call for 28 Years Later
Aaron Taylor-Johnson showed off his wacky new look as he posed up a storm with Jodie Comer at a photo call for 28 Years Later. The Kick-Ass star, 35, who plays scavenger Jamie in the latest film in the franchise, was joined by the cast in London on Monday. And he displayed his rugged new look as he arrived sporting long curly auburn locks with a full beard and moustache. Aaron looked stylish in a pair of grey high-waisted paperbag trousers with a black t-shirt and a leather jacket, as well as huge aviator sunglasses. He was joined by Killing Eve star Jodie, 32, who oozed sophistication in a black flared wide-leg jumpsuit. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Jodie paired the statement jumpsuit with black oval sunglasses and open-toed sandals, with her blonde locks styled straight. Also in attendance for the photo was director Danny Boyle, who kept it casual in black trousers and a t-shirt, with a blue blazer and white trainers. Ralph Fiennes made an appearance and looked trim in a navy pinstripe suit with a grey button-up shirt and leather shoes. The much-anticipated release of 28 Years Later is just weeks away, with fans left waiting two decades to discover the next instalment in the film series. And with the nation devastated by the Rage virus nearly three decades ago, this new film - released June 19 - will show insight into the vastly different ways humanity has adapted to survive. For one such community, this means complete isolation from the outside world, and in a new clip ahead of the film's premiere, star Aaron shares insight into this new addition to the 28 Days Later universe for the first time. In this new land, known as The Holy Island, humans are entirely self-sufficient, and only leave the community to hunt on the mainland, when the tide is low. Aaron plays Jamie a scavenger who is tasked with training his Spike to survive in the wilderness, before they embark on a deadly mission to the mainland. Aaron looked stylish in a pair of grey high-waisted paperbag trousers with a black t-shirt and a leather jacket, as well as huge aviator sunglasses He was joined by Killing Eve star Jodie, 32, who oozed sophistication in a black flared wide-leg jumpsuit Jodie opted to style her blonde locks straight for the photo call as she posed for snaps Just a matter of weeks ago the Hollywood star signed a deal making him a global ambassador for luxury watch brand Omega - which fans were sure was a major hint he could be the next actor to don the iconic tux of 007. Omega have been the watch providers of the franchise for more than 30 years, with Pierce Brosnan the first Bond actor to wear an Omega watch during GoldenEye. After signing the deal, Aaron said: 'I have always had an appreciation for timepieces but especially for Omega. 'Now, after visiting the factory, I am in awe of the skill required to manufacture such a luxurious product.' Omega's CEO described Aaron as a 'versatile actor with a range that covers action, thriller, romance and much more'. It's precisely those qualities - and his striking good looks - that have led to the actor's strong links to Bond. Aaron has been considered a frontrunner to become the next 007 since Daniel Craig relinquished the role with the 2021 film No Time To Die. In fact the actor was actually believed to have been former Bond producer Barbara Broccoli's ideal candidate before the franchise was purchased by Amazon. Ralph Fiennes made an appearance and looked trim in a navy pinstripe suit with a grey button-up shirt and leather shoes The release of 28 Years Later is just weeks away, with fans left waiting two decades to discover the next instalment in the franchise Aaron has repeatedly played it cool when asked about the possibility of him succeeding Craig however. 'It's not really for me to say anything,' he told Esquire when quizzed about speculation. But he's even been tipped for the role by former Bond star Pierce Brosnan. After being asked about the possibility of Aaron playing the part during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross show a few weeks ago, the 72-year-old said: 'I think he would make a very fine Bond. 'He was actually in one of the movies I made called The Greatest. This young man we cast as The Greatest. 'He was so impressive then. He just had this charisma, he had this presence... he would be so good. But there's many men on the list, I'm sure.' In the latest bookies' odds for the role however, Aaron has been pipped at the top by two British stars. The current favourite to become the next Bond is none other than The Divergent series star Theo James, 40, who is currently 6/4. Second favourite to become the latest actor 'with a license to kill', according to Ladbrokes, is Superman star Henry Cavill (3/1), ahead of Aaron in third (7/2).
