Food, fun, fireworks: Greensburg community day benefits local fire company
The annual event kicked off at Lynch Field with music, crafts and food vendors.
Organizers said they were happy the weather held out, as it's one of the biggest fundraising events for the local fire department.
'We're six companies here in the city of Greensburg,' said Fire Chief Thomas Bell, 'and like any other fire company, we try to do raising funds without trying to do sub sales and everything. This is one of our major events we do a year.'
The event ended with a fireworks display.

Golfers bring golf to new audiences through online content creation
The game of golf is rapidly growing in popularity among the next generation. One of the reasons behind that surge is YouTube. Golfers are using the social media platform to give fans access like never before. Advertisement YouTube helped 2024 U.S. Open Champion Bryson DeChambeau redefine his image by taking fans behind the scenes and showing them his day-to-day life. He now has more than 2 million followers and, earlier this week, we learned he is sharing some content creation tips with none other than Phil Mickelson. 'It's been great getting to help him a little bit. It's so funny because he's taught me a bunch in short game, so we kind of exchange ideas in that, in that role, he teaches me a couple things out of the bunker wedges. And I'll be like, All right, you know, here's something we do for our channel that makes it a little more interesting,' said DeChambeau. Golfers and creators George and Wesley Bryan, known as The Bryan Bros, have more than half a million subscribers on YouTube. Ahead of the 125th U.S. Open, they took the course at Oakmont. 'We play golf, film it and put it on the internet,' said George Bryan. Advertisement It may sound simple. but the brothers and Grant Horvat are bringing the sport to an audience in a way it's never been delivered before. 'We travel around the major championship courses, play for two rounds and see if we make the cut at the previous major that was there,' said George Bryan. 'It's a way to combine professional golf and YouTube golfing for people to see, like, how do we stack up these pros, but also highlight amazing venues like this?' They want to take golf fans of all ages inside moments they have never experienced before. 'To feel and see a test that the pros are going to play it. You know, feel lost, feel confused, feel like you want to give up the game. It's like that's all the emotions you feel in a US Open,' said George Bryan. Advertisement Their goal in all of this stems from their dad introducing them to golf at a young age. The impact they're making on the youth is one that's surprising even to themselves. ‘Happy Gilmore' actor Christopher McDonald attends U.S. Open at Oakmont
Golf fans of all ages continue to descend on Oakmont to experience the thrill of the U.S. Open. Christopher McDonald, who played Shooter McGavin in 'Happy Gilmore,' was one such fan enjoying the tournament. Advertisement McDonald was to promote 'Happy Gilmore 2″ and to visit as a fan. While he was in town, McDonald said he also had the chance to meet with Governor Josh Shapiro. He said he enjoys the U.S. Open at Oakmont. 'Well, it's beloved for one thing. It's been around, like we said, for 125 years. It's a classic course and a stunning course. It's well managed, beautiful stuff, merchandise is here, great eating is here. I mean, you look around you and everything is pristine. A lot of the courses are this way too but I think there's really something special about this,' McDonald said. Some families gathering in Oakmont for U.S. Open are continuing long-standing traditions
Some fans showing up at Oakmont Country Club this week have more than just tickets to the U.S. Open. They have a long history with the iconic course. They weathered the storms to see Tiger Woods in 2007 and watched Dustin Johnson chase his first major title in 2016, and now, they're back again. Advertisement For fans like Michael Weaver, Oakmont isn't just a course; it's like home. 'I was here in 2016 and 2007, so every time it comes around, I'm really excited to come,' said Weaver, who arrived Monday morning as the gates opened. For others, like Brad Sanders of Harrisburg, the return comes with personal meaning and promises kept. 'My college roommate and I volunteered nine years ago when it was here in 2016,' Sanders said. 'We said, the year we turn 40, we're gonna come back and do it again.' Shaun and Sabrina Keller are originally from Plum but are now raising their two sons in Washington, D.C. Oakmont is about connecting generations for the family of four. Advertisement 'I came with my dad, and now to bring them back is pretty neat,' Shaun Keller said. Seeing the pros up close is certainly one part of the intrigue. 'It's cool to see the course,' said Luca Keller, experiencing his first U.S. Open. 'You drive on the turnpike right here, and to actually be here is kind of cool.' Still, the real magic of Oakmont for many lies in what lingers long after the final putt. 'Passing it on generation to generation,' added Sabrina Keller. 'It's completely new for me and the boys but maybe starting a new tradition for us.' That idea has the approval of Landon, the youngest member of the Keller family. Advertisement 'I think it's amazing,' he said.
