Dodgers' Shohei Ohtani launches 2-run homer into McCovey Cove off Logan Webb
A loud cohort of Dodgers fans sitting behind the visiting dugout erupted as it sailed over the right-field concourse. A kayaker waiting in the cove leapt from his boat to get the ball.
It was Ohtani's first career Splash Hit and the first by a Dodger since Max Muncy hit one into the water on May 23, 2021 off Scott Kazmir. It's the eighth ever Splash Hit by a Dodger.
The home run gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead, erasing an early Giants lead taken with Willy Adames' solo home run off Dustin May.

Briefly: Rafael Devers underwent an MRI on Thursday that revealed inflammation in his lower back. He's been dealing with groin and developing lower back pain since he arrived in San Francisco on June 17. The injury won't keep him out of the first half's final series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the hope is the All-Star break will give him a runway to heal for the second half. … Jerar Encarnacion (oblique) and Christian Koss (hamstring) are working back from injuries and on track to play in minor league games in Arizona over the All-Star break.

LSU football's Zavion Thomas named to Paul Hornung Award watchlist
LSU football's Zavion Thomas was named to the Paul Hornung Award watchlist on Thursday. The award is presented annually to college football's most versatile player. Former LSU playmaker Odell Beckham earned recognition in 2013 after contributing as a wide receiver, kick returner, and punt returner. Thomas, rostered as a wide receiver, also serves as a return specialist. The senior earned a spot on the AP's preseason All-SEC second team for his success on special teams. In 2024, he averaged 26.4 yards per kick return and even scored a touchdown. Before joining the Tigers in 2024, Thomas recorded two standout seasons as a return specialist at Mississippi State. He accumulated 365 yards between kick and punt returns in 2023, finishing the year with 891 all-purpose yards. He increased that number to 993 all-purpose yards last year. Thomas will face increased competition in the wide receiver room as LSU brought in multiple experienced Power Four pass catchers from the transfer portal. He caught 23 passes for 218 yards and two touchdowns last year. Thomas has been working with the first group so far in training camp and LSU will look to get Thomas involved in different ways in 2025.

LeBron James' fiery Instagram post includes Clippers twist
LeBron James got a few things off his chest in a new Instagram post on Thursday. The Lakers superstar, who's been at the center of trade rumors this offseason, cautioned to appreciate him while he's still playing. It included a snapshot of him working out in front of a Clippers sign, which raised some eyebrows from fans. Advertisement 'Say whatever you want but you damn sure won't be able to say I didn't put in the WORK!! 👑 ,' James, 40, wrote. 'We'll see what happens when I no longer exist. Man F this Shhhhhh.' Instagram/LeBron James Klutch Sports Group, the agency that manages James, confirmed to USA Today that the photo was taken at their offices in Playa Vista, located in the old Clippers practice facility. Advertisement Klutch uses the facility for its players to train in Los Angeles and they haven't yet switched out the Clippers signage. It comes after James was seen working out at the Cleveland Cavaliers practice facility earlier this summer. James responded to the buzz earlier this month, writing on X, 'I live here still and train every summer.' Advertisement James, who will turn 41 in December, is rumored to want out of the Lakers after his agent, Rich Paul, released a statement regarding the 21-time All-Star accepting his $52.6 million player option. James, who is entering his 23rd season, has a no-trade clause in his contract. The NBA's all-time leading scorer doesn't seem phased by the buzz, as Paul advised him to enjoy his summer. James was spotted partying in the South of France last week with his wife, Savannah James, and his business partner, Maverick Carter. 'He knows the Lakers are building for the future. He understands that, but he values a realistic chance of winning it all. We are very appreciative of the partnership that we've had for eight years with Jeanie [Buss] and Rob [Pelinka] and consider the Lakers as a critical part of his career. 'We understand the difficulty in winning now while preparing for the future. We do want to evaluate what's best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count, and the Lakers understand that, are supportive and want what's best for him.'
