Zerodha's Nithin Kamath expects upto 20% drop in broking biz this year, eyes ₹10,000 crore in revenue for FY26: Report

Mint04-06-2025
Zerodha's chief executive officer (CEO) Nithin Kamath Kamath has said that he expects a 10–20 per cent decline in the broking business this year, linked to lower market activity. In an interview to CNBC-TV18, Kamath said that despite the drop in business this year, he is targeting ₹ 10,000 crore in revenue by FY26.
He ruled out any change in brokerage rates. Kamath reaffirmed the leading domestic brokerage's long-term ambition to become a full-fledged financial services conglomerate, including entering banking. Kamath is a finalist for the EY World Entrepreneur of the Year 2025 award.
While speaking to the business news channel, Kamath said Zerodha is not giving up on its aspiration for a banking licence. 'We have enough cash to do whatever we want to do,' he said, reiterating that the company sees no reason to go public. 'Being listed on exchanges is tough for a company like us.'
Zerodha charges ₹ 200 for online account opening for individuals. Annual maintenance charges range from Re 0 to ₹ 300 based on holdings. For non-individual accounts, opening costs ₹ 500 and AMC ranges from ₹ 300 to ₹ 1,000 per year. Further, BSDA holders may be eligible for reduced or zero AMC depending on their holdings.

Watch: Zerodha's Nithin Kamath Defeats Fellow Founders In Intense Push-Up Challenge

Nithin Kamath, Founder and CEO of Zerodha, is a well-known fitness enthusiast. He recently collaborated with entrepreneur Dilip Kumar and showcased his impressive physical strength and endurance, outperforming fellow entrepreneurs in a push-up challenge. The light-hearted competition, shared on Instagram, featured Mr Kamath and other prominent business leaders, including Shiva Subramanian, founder of Biopeak, who came close but ultimately lost to Mr Kamath's remarkable fitness prowess. The challenge began with a 30-push-up round, where all participants held strong, but as it progressed to 40 push-ups, some competitors started dropping out, including Dilip Kumar himself, Swetha Subbiah, co-founder of Sisters in Sweat, and Adnan Adeeb of Spectacom. In the final 50-push-up round, only Mr Kamath and Mr Subramanian remained, with the former emerging victorious. "There is only one way to challenge Nithin Kamath. Some folks tried it. This is what happened," the video was captioned. Watch the video here: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Dilip Kumar (@kmr_dilip) The video of the billionaire joining his fellow entrepreneurs for the workout session attracted various comments from social media users. One user wrote, "This is what reaching your peak looks like." Another user commented, "Nitin and mentally strong." This isn't the first time the Zeodha CEO has demonstrated his commitment to fitness. Earlier this year, he shared a video of himself doing push-ups with his colleagues at Rainmatter, as part of a collaboration with Sisters In Sweat, a sports and wellness community for women. Mr Kamath's dedication to fitness is particularly notable given his recent health challenges, including a mild stroke in February. He said, although he does not know what exactly caused it, he thinks that a combination of factors, including his father's death, poor sleep, exhaustion and overworking, could be the reasons. Notably, Nithin Kamath is the co-founder of Zerodha. He founded the brokerage company in 2010 along with his brother Nikhil Kamath. Their venture capital fund and incubator, Rainmatter, invests in fintech firms and ventures that promote financial inclusion.

‘Current smartphones and computers not ideal for future of AI': OpenAI CEO Sam Altman explains why

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has shared a perspective on the future of artificial intelligence (AI), emphasising that the current form factors of smartphones and computers are ill-suited for the true potential of AI. In an episode of Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath's popular 'People by WTF' podcast, Altman highlighted the need for new, ambiently aware hardware that can embody the 'AI companion' of science fiction dreams. During the conversation, Altman said that while people have long relied on devices that are either 'on or off,' the nature of advanced AI demands a continuous, contextual presence. 'You really want AI to have as much context as possible, do stuff for you, and be proactive,' Altman stated, underscoring a significant shift from traditional human-computer interaction. Altman says smartphones are not ever-present companions He explained that a phone, being either in your pocket or hand, doesn't align with the desire for an AI that acts as a companion throughout the day, capable of intelligent alerts, proactive assistance, and timely reminders. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Could This NEW Collagen Blend Finally Reduce Your Cellulite? Sam Altman on what OpenAI is designing with ex-Apple designer Jony Ive This discussion comes amidst widespread speculation about OpenAI's foray into hardware, particularly following its collaboration with former Apple design chief Jony Ive. Altman remained tight-lipped about the specifics of his work with Ive, however he said that the duo aims to 'try multiple products' to make AI omnipresent at all times. 'The world will experiment with a lot of those [new form factors],' he said, mentioning possibilities like glasses, wearables, and small table-top devices. Altman stressed that the core idea is to build "ambiently aware physical hardware" that can host an AI companion. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 Review: Changing The Game AI Masterclass for Students. Bharath asks Kurnool AMC to work for development of market

Industries and Commerce Minister T.G. Bharath asked the newly sworn-in members of the Agriculture Market Committee (AMC) to work for the development of the market in Kurnool. Mr. Bharath was participating in the swearing-in ceremony of AMC Chairperson Golconda Azmath Bee, Vice-Chairperson Seshagiri Shetty and other directors of the committee on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the posts of AMC Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson and Directors had been sold for money in the past. 'I am not a person who sells posts' for money. I had promised to honour the leaders and cadre who work hard and appointing Azmath Bee as the Chairperson stands as an example,' Mr Bharath asserted. The Minister said that some people with vested interests were trying to distance Muslims from him, but he treated all communities, castes and religion equally. 'Azmath Bee, a Muslim woman, getting this post is an example of that,' he said. Mr. Bharath said he always renders justice to the cadre and leaders who work with him. Mr. Bharath reiterated that the NDA government is focussing on both development and welfare and the continuation of the government for two decades will fulfil all the aspirations of the people of the State. Kurnool Urban Development Authority (KUDA) Chairperson Somisetty Venkateswarlu and leaders of TDP, BJP and JSP also participated.
