Prateik Smita Patil who made his debut with 'Jaane Tu....Ya Jaane Na' was initially approached by Sanjay Leela Bhansali for ' Saawariya '. The actor has revealed that in a recent interview that he did not know about it as he was in a rehab centre but Bhansali had called on his landline number and Prateik got to know about it few years later from his grandparents.Prateik who was born to Smita Patil and Raj Babbar was raised by his maternal grand parents as his mother passed away after giving him birth.Prateik said in an interview with Bollywood Bubble, "Unfortunately, I was in rehab at the time. I was 18-years-old. I was in rehab. Mr Bhansali had called our landline.' In the same interview, Prateik opened up on his drug addiction and said, "I made very bad choices. I won't say I could have done anything differently because I was going through something since a very young age. I made the choice of getting into alcohol and substance abuse again. I gave into my weakness. I had valid reasons, if I may. Things were far more complicated than it sounds when we talk about it now. But those choices brought a downfall in both my profession and personal life.'He also revealed that he was removed from Subhash Ghai 's acting school because he was taking drugs. When asked if Bhansali knew he was in rehab, Prateik said, "He wasn't aware (about rehab). And I don't think he was aware how old I was either because I was very young."He further added, "I came to know a year or two later. My grandfather told me, 'Sanjay Leela Bhansali had called for you but you were in the hospital then'.'Prateik also added that one of his greatest regrets is that his grandparents saw the worse of him in those years. He said, "The grandparents saw the worst of me in those last few years. I was a raging addict. My grandmother died seeing me an addict. That's something I regret. I wish she could see the man I have become today.'

The Phule actor shared her fondest memories meeting the star and revealed that it is because of him that she and husband-actor Rajkummar Rao have a house in Mumbai today. He is kind, well-spoken, and respectful. I was smitten meeting him." The Citylights actor also recalled the time when her husband Rajkummar talked with Shah Rukh about his dream of having a house like Mannat. Rajkummar had earlier mentioned how the Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge star advised him to have a bigger house because it would motivate him to work harder. Patralekhaa gleefully said, 'Thanks to SRK sir, that we have a house today.' Rajkummar and Patralekhaa dated each other for over a decade, and finally got married on November 15, 2021.
