First unveiled as a concept model at EICMA 2024 in Italy and Auto Expo 2025 in India, the BMW F 450 GS has now been spotted in production-ready form. The upcoming adventure tourer was previously spied testing in Karnataka, but the test mule was kept heavily camouflaged. Recent spy shots from Germany tell a fuller story with more details on what we can expect from the BMW F 450 GS, which will be manufactured locally in collaboration with TVS Motor Company.
The production-ready test mule has a few changes over the F 450 GS Concept while retaining the same silhouette. The quad-LED DRL setup with the GS badge has been replaced with a conventional, vertically stacked dual-LED configuration. The bodywork is now complete and includes the same front visor with what seems to be a broader tail section. The exhaust features the same twin-pipe design, but the muffler has been lowered, possibly to accommodate additional equipment.

Notably, the test mule has put on cast aluminium alloy wheels, leaving behind the tubeless cross-spoke design we saw with the F 450 GS Concept. This suggests that BMW Motorrad may offer a road-focused variant at launch. The bike rides on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels wrapped in dual-purpose tyres. The F 450 GS Concept showcased at the Auto Expo 2025 featured a quad LED DRL setup and cross-spoke wheels.
The BMW F 450 GS utilises a steel bridge trellis frame and a bolt-on rear sub-frame. It features an aluminium swing-arm with a central spring strut. The bike is held up by upside-down forks at the front and a rear monoshock. While the spy shots available do not indicate which components have been used, the F 450 GS's suspension is expected to retain some degree of adjustability with load-sensitive damping.
BMW Motorrad has equipped the F 450 GS with an all-new 450 cc parallel twin engine, developed specifically for this model. The motor produces 48 bhp and is tuned for strong torque output at the lower end of the rev band, making it suitable for technical off-road riding as well as city and highway use. It has a unique ignition offset, which is expected to bring a high-revving nature to the bike. With the F 450 GS, BMW Motorrad is gearing to add a middleweight ADV to its Indian portfolio, aimed at riders who want an upgrade over the G 310 GS but not as big as the BMW F 900 GS. The F 450 GS is expected to launch sometime in Q3 2025, with deliveries possibly starting ahead of the festive season. While official pricing details are not available, the motorcycle is expected to be launched in multiple variants, offering varying levels of rider aids and accessories. The expected price for the BMW F 450 GS ranges between ₹ 4 lakh to ₹ 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

TVS Motor Company has registered sales of 431,275 units in May 2025, which is higher by 17% as compared with the 369,914 units sold in May 2024. Total two-wheelers registered a growth of 16%, with sales increasing to 416,166 units in May 2025 from 359,590 units in May 2024. China's Rare Earth Magnet Curb – What Does It Mean? With new Chinese export rules delaying shipments, manufacturers are warning of significant disruptions to vehicle production if supplies aren't restored soon. At the center of the problem is a crucial component: neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) magnets. These rare earth magnets are indispensable to both electric and conventional vehicles, used in systems ranging from motors and steering to brakes, wipers, and audio equipment. Without them, even a small shortage can bring assembly lines to a crawl. What Changed? The bottleneck began in April, when China — which processes more than 90% of the world's rare earth magnets — introduced stricter export controls. Under the new rules, exporters must obtain government licenses and detailed end-use certificates from buyers before shipping. While pitched as procedural updates, the result has been a slowdown in clearances. According to The Economic Times, several Indian-bound consignments are stuck at Chinese ports with no movement in sight. Unlike some European companies, Indian firms have not yet received export approvals, deepening concerns about when production may start to feel the strain. Current inventory levels, industry executives say, could run out by early June. India imported 460 tons of rare earth magnets in FY24 — virtually all from China — and planned to import 700 tons this year. Their relatively low value belies their critical function. No viable alternatives exist at scale today, which leaves Indian production lines exposed. To reduce long-term dependency, India is advancing plans for domestic production. A high-level meeting is reportedly scheduled for June 3, where the Ministry of Heavy Industries will finalize a support framework for magnet manufacturing, including incentives and infrastructure. What Are The Auto Giants Saying? 'The impact of the ban will begin to reflect in production by June or July," Sudarshan Venu, MD, TVS Motor said during an interaction with CNBC-TV18 on June 2, warning that the electric two-wheeler segment could be especially exposed. Rare earth magnets, largely sourced from China, are vital to EV motors' performance, and any supply disruption could derail production schedules. In the near to medium term, this could lead to output halts and even potential price hikes, said Venu, as companies race to secure alternative sources. 'We're actively exploring ways to de-risk the situation, but there could be cost increases down the line," the managing director of TVS Motor said. The company has again underscored the urgent need for India to localise its EV supply chain. 'The auto industry must build a robust domestic ecosystem for such critical materials. Developing a self-reliant supply chain is a necessity," Venu said. According to the protocol, Indian importers – in this case, TVS Motor vendors – must self-declare the end use of the magnets, which are then cleared through a multi-step certification process involving Indian authorities and the Chinese Embassy. So far, about 30 such applications have cleared the Indian stages and await final clearance from China. With China supplying nearly 90% of the world's rare earth magnets, sourcing immediate alternatives is proving to be a significant challenge. Substitutes would require extensive investment in testing, validation, and integration — a process that would only bear fruit in the medium term. Last week, Bajaj Auto warned of the looming crisis during its Q4FY25 earnings call, describing it as a 'dark cloud on the horizon" and cautioning about production risks as early as next month if the issue isn't resolved. Although a formal process is now in place to certify that these materials won't be diverted for military use, the fate of shipments from China remains uncertain. TVS has also stated that its domestic two-wheeler sales registered a growth of 14 per cent, with sales increasing from 271,140 units in May last year to 309,287 units in the same month this year. TVS Motor Company sells some of the bestselling motorcycles in the Indian market, which include the Apache series models. The auto company manufactures high-performance as well as commuter motorcycles such as Apache RR 310, Apache RTR 310, Apache RTR 200 4V, Apache RTR 180, Apache RTR 160 4V, Apache RTR 160, TVS Ronin, TVS Raider, TVS Radeon, TVS StaR City+, and TVS Sport. These models are sold in India as well as exported to overseas markets too. In the scooter segment, the OEM sells models like Jupiter, Jupiter 125, Ntorq and Zest 110. Besides that, it also sells electric scooters like the iQube and TVS X. Apart from that, there is a moped on offer as well in the form of the XL100. The brand has further stated in its official statement that motorcycle sales for the company registered a 22 per cent growth, with sales increasing from 173,627 units in May 2024 to 211,505 units in May 2025. On the other hand, scooter sales registered a growth of 15 per cent, with sales increasing from 145,305 units in May 2024 to 166,749 units in May 2025. In the electric vehicle segment, TVS has recorded a significant growth of 50 per cent. Its sales have increased from 18,674 units in May 2024 to 27,976 units in May 2025, claimed the automaker. However, TVS expects a disruption in its EV sales in the short to medium term, which is due to the delays in the rare earth magnet supply from China. The company has stated that while EV sales continue to grow steadily, disruptions in the EV supply chain, particularly concerning magnet availability, are expected to pose challenges in the short to medium term.
