CM Yogi lays the foundation of 186 development projects worth ₹958 crore in Aligarh
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme has emerged as a national model. Speaking at a mega event in Aligarh, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation for 186 projects worth ₹958 crore, the CM urged people to embrace local products, calling Swadeshi a must for economic self-reliance and prosperity. He said, 'Adopting Swadeshi is the need of the hour. If our money stays with our own craftsmen and artisans, it will lead to growth and prosperity, and also help increase per capita income.'
However, he warned that if this money goes to foreign hands, it could be used against the country — in the form of terrorism, religious conversions, and disturbances to destabilize India. He also appealed to people to give locally made products as gifts to their loved ones during upcoming festivals.
At the event, CM Yogi handed over certificates, financial aid, tablets, house keys, and Ayushman health cards to beneficiaries of various public welfare schemes. He also visited an exhibition showcasing local products and lovingly interacted with children dressed as Lord Krishna, gifting them chocolates, butter, and toys.
Calling it a special Raksha Bandhan gift, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath unveiled development projects worth over ₹957 crore for Aligarh. Key initiatives include a drinking water restructuring scheme, a forensic science lab, a new degree college in Atrauli, a 900-kiloliter water reservoir, and the widening and beautification of the Atrauli–Railway Station road. Several other foundation stones were also laid to accelerate the city's growth.
While addressing the public gathering, CM Yogi highlighted Aligarh's historical and cultural importance. He recalled how former Chief Minister late Kalyan Singh brought national recognition to the city, adding that the government is taking his vision forward by boosting the local lock industry through the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. He also mentioned Raja Mahendra Pratap Singh University, which will soon turn Aligarh into a hub for higher education, while keeping the memory of the freedom movement alive and helping youth build a bright future.
The Chief Minister said the Defence Corridor, launched in 2018, is now producing advanced weapons like the world-class BrahMos missile, strengthening India's defence capabilities. Citing Operation Sindoor, he praised the country's military self-reliance and added that Aligarh is emerging as a hub for drone and hardware manufacturing, creating jobs and boosting prosperity for local artisans.
Reinforcing Prime Minister Modi's 'Vocal for Local' campaign, the CM urged citizens to adopt Swadeshi (indigenous) products. He pointed out how Aligarh's locks, brass idols, and hardware are now in demand across the country and even abroad. CM Yogi cautioned that purchasing foreign goods fuels terrorism, religious conversions, and anti-national forces. Highlighting ODOP success stories from Moradabad, Firozabad, Bhadohi, and Meerut, he said local industries are becoming key drivers of employment and prosperity. Promoting Swadeshi is essential to building a stronger, self-reliant nation, he added.
CM Yogi stressed the importance of cleanliness, urging citizens to make it a daily habit and to avoid single-use plastic to prevent drain blockages and waterlogging. He called for enthusiastic participation in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign from August 13 to 15, encouraging homes, offices, and institutions to hoist the national flag, clean memorials of the freedom struggle, and honour the martyrs. The tricolour, he said, symbolizes India's pride, sacrifice, and self-respect.
Praising the double-engine government's zero-tolerance policy, CM Yogi said that prior to 2017, Aligarh and Uttar Pradesh were plagued by riots and lawlessness. Improved law and order has now paved the way for investment and development. He highlighted the recent selection of 1,344 youth from Aligarh in the recruitment of 60,244 police personnel as a proud moment for the district, and announced 30,000 more police recruitments soon. "Unlike the past, where jobs were limited to select families, today merit drives recruitment—reflected in the state's growing investment in infrastructure and logistics," he pointed out.
He also noted that Aligarh has emerged as a major hub for idol-making across the country. Looking ahead to Raksha Bandhan and Janmashtami, he encouraged people to gift locally made products to their loved ones, so that hard-earned money remains within the community. He mentioned that the government will provide free bus travel for women from August 8 to 10.
Lastly, he appreciated the efforts of elected representatives, saying that their support for the double-engine government has helped accelerate Aligarh's development, and the government is committed to meeting the public's expectations.
CM distributes certificates and financial aid to beneficiaries of various welfare schemes
At the event, CM Yogi Adityanath distributed cheques under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Yojana and extended support to Self-Help Groups. He also handed over tablets to students, house keys to PM Awas Yojana beneficiaries, Ayushman health cards, and nutrition kits for children.
The Divisional Commissioner and District Magistrate honored the CM by presenting him with a symbolic ODOP lock — a signature product of Aligarh.

Ease of doing biz, lower costs to aid Raj's growth: Rathore at BS Samriddhi
Rajasthan's journey towards becoming a ₹30 trillion economy in the next three and a half years will be guided by the twin principles of ease of doing business and lowering the cost of doing business, said Col (retd) Rajyavardhan Rathore, the state's industry & commerce minister, in a fireside chat at the Business Standard Samriddhi event on Wednesday. Rathore, who earlier launched Business Standard 's Jaipur edition in Hindi and English at the event here, said that for ease of doing business the state had announced nine policies in key sectors. These include policies on export promotion, logistics, apparel, cluster development, One District One Product (ODOP), data centres, and a forthcoming policy on artificial intelligence. With the launch of the Jaipur edition, Business Standard is now published simultaneously across 14 cities in English and seven in Hindi. The minister, who holds five portfolios, including information technology & communications, and skill development & entrepreneurship, said that as part of its effort to reduce the cost of doing business, the state government had adopted a policy of direct land allotment instead of the previous system of auction. The fixing of price for such land, he said, was carried out transparently by a committee that determines rates based on factors like the plot's distance from a city. 'Ink an MoU (memorandum of understanding), go to the Riico (Rajasthan State Industrial Development & Investment Corporation) website, pick a plot, and we will allot it to you. The website has details of available plots in all the 419 Riico industrial parks,' he said. Rathore also spoke of the government's vision to build a land bank and an IT city near Delhi, on the lines of IT cities in Hyderabad and Bengaluru. He lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to ink free-trade agreements with different countries, and said the PM believes that India's market is its strength, while the previous government thought of it as its weakness. 'I would point to the India-EFTA (European Free Trade Association) trade pact. Under the free-trade agreement, for the first time, there is a binding commitment on the European nations to not only transfer to us technology but invest $100 billion. Similarly, we have an energy treaty with the United Arab Emirates and a trade pact with Singapore. The national government has created an environment of development within India,' Rathore said. On how Rajasthan is pulling investments, Rathore said in the Rising Rajasthan Summit, the state had not merely inked MoUs, but was handholding businesses as well. 'We are hiring consultants so that all the file movement is not done by entrepreneurs but by the government of Rajasthan. It is literally like a door-to-door service,' he said. The minister said that the state was pursuing the PM's mantra of reform, perform, and transform to the hilt. 'We are reforming, our government is performing and we are transforming Rajasthan from a ₹15 trillion economy to a ₹30 trillion economy in the next three and a half years,' he said. The minister said Rajasthan would play a big role in the PM's call for 'swadeshi' and 'aatmanirbharta'. He pointed out that there were as many as 56 minerals found in Rajasthan, and in some, such as zinc, the state is the largest producer. 'We have plenty of land. Our industrial corridor and expressway network is good,' Rathore said, adding that Rajasthan is a goldmine of possibilities. Later, the launch event was followed by two high-intensity panel discussions, attended by leading industrialists, bureaucrats and policymakers.

Yogi govt unveils Chevening UP Atal Scholarship; 15 UP students to get aid for UK higher education — details here
In an attempt to boost the career prospects of students from Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Kingdom to offer the prestigious Chevening Scholarship Programme in the state. The UP government's new international scholarship programme, rolled out under the scheme Chevening UP Atal Scholarship, has been designed for students who have shown exceptional academic performance. As per the agreement, up to 15 students from Uttar Pradesh will be eligible for full financial support to pursue a one-year master's degree in Britain. "The UK Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to offer the prestigious Chevening Scholarship Programme in the state. Under the agreement signed today in Lucknow in the presence of CM Yogi Adityanath and British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron, up to 15 scholars from the state will be eligible for full financial support to pursue a one-year master's in the UK," the British High Commission to India said in an official statement. "The Chevening programme in India is the largest in the world, benefitting over 3,900 scholars and fellows since 1983, demonstrating the UK's commitment to developing the leaders of tomorrow. Chevening alumni use their world-class education and global networks gained in the UK to create meaningful, lasting change when they return home, whether by tackling global challenges or making a tangible impact in their own communities," the statement added. The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and British High Commissioner Lindy Cameron in Lucknow. The cost of sponsoring each student from the state would be around ₹ 45-48 lakh. Half of the cost will be borne by the UP government, while the other half will be funded by the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth And Development Office (FCDO).

UP: Yogi govt to launch special drive for 100% farmer registration from Sept 16
Uttar Pradesh government will launch a statewide campaign from September 16 to achieve 100 per cent farmer registration. Acting on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath 's instructions, district magistrates will review progress daily in the run-up to the drive. The Revenue Department has been directed to issue standard operating procedures (SOPs) to revenue officers to ensure the correction of land ownership records in line with Aadhaar. The Yogi government has set a target of over 2.88 crore farmer registrations. So far, around 1.45 crore farmers, more than 50 per cent of the target have been registered. Bijnor leads the state with over 58 per cent registrations, followed by Hardoi (57.84%), Shravasti (57.47%), Pilibhit (56.89%) and Rampur (56.72%), placing them among the top five districts in farmer registry. According to the release, the data of farmers who are yet not part of the registration process, their credentials are being verified by field officers. In districts like Amroha, Azamgarh, Balrampur, Etah and Jaunpur, 100 per cent verification has already been completed. Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government today reaffirmed that there is no shortage of fertilizers anywhere in the state. The state government has urged people not to indulge in unnecessary hoarding. The government has reiterated that adequate stocks are available to meet farmers' needs, according to the Chief Minister's Office (CMO). The Agriculture Department has shared detailed data on the availability and sale of fertilisers across all 18 divisions. According to the available statistics, during the Kharif season 2024, 36.76 lakh metric tonnes of fertiliser had been sold by August 18. In comparison, this year's sales have already reached 42.64 lakh metric tonnes, showing a significant increase. CM Yogi has appealed to farmers to purchase fertilisers only as per requirement and assured that supplies are available whenever needed. He also directed every district to maintain a complaint cell to promptly resolve farmers' grievances. The statement also mentioned that the CM warned against overpricing and black marketing of fertilizers, instructing district officials to conduct regular inspections, maintain direct communication with farmers, and ensure smooth distribution.
