SIR attempt to bring NRC through back door: Abhishek at oppn meet
2
Kolkata: Election Commission's special intensive revision (SIR) in Bihar is an attempt by BJP and the poll panel to introduce NRC through the back door, said Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday.
The TMC national general secretary was speaking at an INDIA bloc virtual meeting.
Banerjee was also critical of Centre's handling of the Pahalgam terror attack and said that things had plummeted to such a "sorry state" that people in India "had to look to Donald Trump's social media handles and accounts to get updates because they were kept in dark by this govt at Centre." Banerjee was a part of the diplomatic delegations that visited various countries after Operation Sindoor.
INDIA bloc parties on Saturday held deliberations to reach a consensus on issues that to corner the govt during the monsoon session.

According to sources, Banerjee said: "BJP Is using E square (E2) to attack — ED for opposition leaders and EC for voters." He added: "In Maharashtra, after 4 months of LS elections, BJP added 40 lakh voters to win the polls. They are trying a similar plot in Bihar. In Bengal, TMC caught additional voters, so they are introducing SIR to remove genuine voters."

Banerjee said, "Pahalgam was an intelligence failure. Even the LG has admitted the same. Then why was the IB chief given an extension? What was the compulsion? Pegasus is used by govt to harass opposition instead of using it to stop terrorism and nab terrorists." He added: "The last 10-12 years of India's foreign policy has seen big decline. It is in bad shape." Banerjee is also a member of the Parliamentary committee on external affairs.
He said, "Why did no ASEAN member condemn Pakistan? After Pahalgam, delegations were sent to various countries. What good did it do? How many countries came in our support? Instead of briefing its own people, MPs were sent to brief people and relevant stakeholders of other countries by the Modi govt."
Among attendees of the meet were Congress's Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, NCP (SP)'s Sharad Pawar, Sena (UBT)'s Uddhav Thackeray, RJD's Tejashwi Yadav, SP's Ram Gopal Yadav, and CPM's MA Baby.

Parliament Monsoon Session: INDIA bloc to protest over Bihar voter list revision today
Opposition MPs of the INDIA bloc are set to stage a protest at the Makar Dwar of Parliament on Tuesday at 10:30 AM, ahead of the day's proceedings, to mount pressure on the Centre against the Election Commission's Special Intensive Exercise (SIR) in poll-bound Bihar. According to the sources, the government has agreed to the opposition's demand to take up the SIR matter in the Lok Sabha Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, signalling a possible floor debate, news agency ANI said. The opposition is continuously raising questions over transparency and the verification process in the ongoing SIR in Bihar. Earlier on Monday, both houses of parliament were adjourned several times amid sloganeering by Opposition members demanding a discussion on the ongoing SIR in poll-bound Bihar, as well as other issues of public importance. Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Monday criticised the Opposition for disrupting the start of a debate on Operation Sindoor in the Lok Sabha, accusing them of making a "U-turn". Rijiju addressed reporters after both the houses of Parliament got adjourned for the second time amid sloganeering by Opposition members demanding a discussion on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in poll-bound Bihar. "Opposition has made a U-turn. This will not work. After half an hour, Parliament proceedings will resume. The Defence Minister will open the debate. I urge everyone to listen to him. No Opposition party should speak the language of Pakistan," Rijiju told reporters outside Parliament. He further said that the opposition is demanding a commitment from the government to discuss the SIR exercise in Bihar after the deliberation concludes on Sindoor. Rijiju added, "We were all ready for the discussion. 10 minutes before the discussion had to start, the Opposition came up with their agenda that the government should give a line of commitment that, after this, the issue of SIR would be discussed. To bring in a condition just 10 minutes before the discussion is not right." He also questioned why the Opposition was "running away" from a debate and resorting to disruption instead. Why are the Congress and Opposition now running away from discussion on Operation Sindoor? He asked, 'Why are the Congress and Opposition now running away from discussion on Operation Sindoor?'

New India can go to any extent to uproot terror: Rajnath
New Delhi: Decisive action has replaced dossiers and the new India can go to any extent to uproot terrorism, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday while stating that Operation Sindoor was on pause as the armed forces had achieved the desired objectives. Initiating the special discussion on "India's strong, successful and decisive Operation Sindoor in response to the terror attack in Pahalgam" in the Lok Sabha, Singh said the military action against Pakistan had sent a clear message to supporters of terrorism that India was committed to defend its motherland. Just as the debate started in the Lok Sabha, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir reported that three terrorists have been gunned down after a massive gunfight. "Today, dossiers have been replaced by decisive action. Today's India thinks differently and acts differently. We believe that if the adversary uses terrorism as part of strategy and does not understand the language of peace, then standing firm and being decisive is the only option," Singh said. Rejecting US President Donald Trump's claims of mediating a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the minister added, 'Operation Sindoor was paused as the armed forces had achieved the desired politico-military objectives and there was no pressure to end the conflict with Pakistan.' If Pakistan indulges in fresh misadventure, it will resume again, he added. Singh asserted that India now believes in taking decisive action as peace overtures have not yielded desirable results. The Defence Minister also made light of the opposition attacks against the government on the loss of military assets in the four-day war and urged political rivals to ask the number of Pakistani aircraft downed by India. "It is the Opposition's job to ask questions of the government. Our Opposition members kept asking how many of our aircraft were shot down, but they never asked how many Pakistani planes our forces had shot down," Singh said.
