Hidden gem streaming service offers British thrillers for half Netflix's price

The platform specialises in the genre and is home to critically acclaimed dramas such as BBC hit Line of Duty, which has been described as 'the best police procedural show in TV history'.

With many of the British dramas available on Acorn TV also streaming on the likes of BBC iPlayer, ITVX and Channel 5, you might wonder whether the lesser-known streamer is worth investing in.
However, there are plenty more shows to discover that can't be found on other streaming services.
These include Acorn Originals such as Dead Still, a drama set in Victorian Ireland that follows a renowned memorial photographer who becomes drawn into murder investigations.
The series has an impressive 89% Rotten Tomatoes score, and one impressed Google reviewer called it 'refreshingly different,' praising the 'wonderful characters and compelling storyline'.
Meanwhile, earlier this month Irish Blood, starring Alicia Silverstone, landed exclusively on Acorn TV.
The Clueless actress plays an LA divorce attorney who travels to Ireland after receiving a parcel that appears to be from her estranged father. She soon finds herself entangled in a web of family secrets in a drama that has been described as 'cosy' and 'quirky'.
Acorn TV also boasts a treasure trove of foreign language gems, including several Scandi noir titles (and seasoned drama fans will know that this part of the world has mastered the craft of gripping television).

The entire series of Long Story Short will be released on August 22. There may be some who have never even heard of it but there are a few good reasons why you should become familiar. An article on Netflix's Tudum website has already declared that the show could become your next favourite. It is one of a number of new adult animated titles making their debut on the streamer in 2025. That includes the upcoming Haunted Hotel from a writer of Rick and Morty as well as Big Mouth creators' follow up called Mating Season. But what is Long Story Short? What is it about? Who was it created by? Why should you watch it and who is in the star studded voice cast? Here's everything you need to know. What is Long Story Short about? Long Story Short is an adult animated comedy series about one family, over time. What really sets the series apart is that these key events in the Schwooper family is not told chronologically. Instead, viewers will be taken back and forth through time, jumping through the years, following the siblings from childhood, through to teenage angst to adulthood and back again. There will even be stops to check in on moments from their parents' lives when they were younger. It will all help in chronicling their triumphs, disappointments, joys, and compromises. Why should you watch Long Story Short? The show is created by writer, comedian and voice actor Raphael Matthew Bob-Waksberg. He is probably best known as the creator of celebrated Netflix series Bojack Horseman. Those who enjoyed that show should be well placed to fall in love with Long Story Short.
