Peterborough gang jailed for theft of luxury keyless cars
Recorder George Keightley said the men had caused financial loss, fear and distress to vehicle owners, undermined Jaguar Land Rover and added to insurance problems.He said their victims were people who had "worked hard" so they could afford luxury vehicles.Cambridgeshire Police said, after the hearing, that the three men were a "gang" that "stole luxury keyless cars"They said 22 vehicles had been stolen in Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire between April and September 2024.Officers said the three men had been "forensically linked" to stolen vehicles, many of which had been fitted with cloned number plates.
Matthew Paul, prosecuting, told the hearing how police suspected that stolen vehicles were heading for eastern Europe and would be broken up for spare parts.He said all three men had previous convictions and that Milius was the main player with a "long and serious" crime record in the UK and abroad.Mr Paul said Milius had been imprisoned in the past and had twice breached deportation orders, and suggested he had returned to the UK "specifically to be involved in serious crime".Milius, who also admitted a deportation order breach, owed a debt to a foreign gang, the judge was told.A lawyer representing Milius said he had been under pressure from the gang and had stolen vehicles as a way to pay off the debt. Savickas accepted responsibility for four thefts and Girdeika for eight, the judge was told.Lawyers for the pair said they had played lesser roles.The judge said evidence showed that both had been looking for "easy cash", but had both had played "significant roles".Milius, of Overland Mews, was jailed for four years and five months; Savickas, of Dogsthorpe Road, for two years and nine months; and Girdeika, of Arkwright Way, for two years and eight months.
Pc Craig Trevor added: "This gang conducted a sophisticated operation as they stole high performance vehicles with little thought for the impact their actions were having on others."He said Jaguar Land Rover had "rolled out security updates" to help protect vehicles from the "tactics used in this case".

Police conclude investigation into death of Gogglebox's George Gilbey
Police have concluded their investigation into the death of Gogglebox's George Gilbey, with two men who were arrested facing no further police action. The 40-year-old had been 'working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight, landing on the ground below' in Shoeburyness in Essex last year, a previous inquest hearing was told. Mr Gilbey, of Clacton-on-Sea, suffered traumatic injuries to his head and torso, and died on March 27 last year. Essex Police said on Wednesday that two men, who were arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, will face no further action from the force. In a statement the force said: 'Essex Police have confirmed their investigation into the death of George Gilbey last year has concluded. 'Two men who were arrested and released under investigation in connection with the incident in Shoebury on March 27, 2024 will face no further action from Essex Police. 'The thoughts of everyone at Essex Police remain with George's family and friends. 'The criminal investigation remains open and will be led by the Health and Safety Executive.' HSE inspector Natalie Prince said: 'We have been a part of this inquiry from the outset and we will continue to thoroughly investigate George's tragic death as the lead agency. 'This will aim to establish if there have been any breaches of health and safety law. 'We are in regular contact with George's family and our thoughts remain with them at this time.' Mr Gilbey was best known for appearing on the Channel 4 series Gogglebox – where participants watch and comment on TV shows from the previous week. The reality star also appeared on the 14th series of Celebrity Big Brother in 2014, reaching the final.

Hero mum killed by falling branch ‘pushed daughter, 5, out of the way' before tragic death on walk with husband and kids
A MOTHER who was killed in front of her two young children when a tree branch fell on her has been hailed as a hero. Named locally as Madia Kauser, the mum is said to have pushed her five-year-old daughter out of the way of the falling branch. 3 3 She was sadly killed while taking her daughter and son for an evening stroll near Witton Country Park in Blackburn, Lancashire on Monday. The little girl was reportedly in a push chair that the brave mother managed to shove out of the way before being crushed by the falling branch. The woman's young daughter thankfully survived unharmed because of her mum's noble actions. Former mayor and local councillor Zamir Khan MBE, an uncle in the family, told the Daily Mail that her body was still with the coroner. He added: "Her little girl told me her mother pushed her out of the way as the branch fell. "The older boy was walking with his father in front and could not believe what happened. "It is very hard for the children. I do not think they will ever walk in that park again." The woman's husband was said to be just a few feet away with the couple's son when the tragedy unfolded. He rushed to offer aid to his wife but nothing could be done to save the woman. She was sadly pronounced dead at the scene after paramedics battled to save her. The remainder of the tree has since been removed by Blackburn with Darwen council, the local authority has also trimmed back nearby tree branches. Tributes have begun to pour in for the hero mother who "would do anything for her children." Social media tributes have described the heroic mum as a "lovely person" with the local Muslim community coming together to remember her. A gathering was held at Blackburn's Madina mosque on Wednesday where condolences were offered for the tragic mum and her family. Family members from across the country travelled to attend the gathering. A local social media group hosted a message for the mum, reading: "Please keep this mother and her young children in your prayers. "May Allah give them Sabrun Jameel. Condolences can be paid to the family at Madina Masjid on Oak St from 11am." The local authority said: "Blackburn with Darwen borough council is deeply saddened to confirm that a member of the public has tragically died following an incident in Witton Park, when a large tree branch fell.'

Horror after man ‘attacks' kids in Aldi store as cops issue CCTV
COPS have launched an urgent appeal after a man was allegedly seen attacking kids at a supermarket. Greater Manchester Police is appealing for witnesses following the incident at an Aldi store on King Street in Leigh, Wigan, on August 6. A CCTV grab shows a man walking near the tills and a woman walking behind with a full trolley. The force said: "Officers are appealing for witnesses following a reported incident at Aldi on King Street, Leigh. "At 12.50pm on Wednesday 6 August, an incident appears to have occurred whereby a male is alleged to been aggressive and assaulted two children. "While the children did not received injuries, the police would like to talk to the two people pictured, as it is believed that they could help with their enquiries.
