Karnataka to act against hospital heads over poor NQAS
The NQAS lays down a set of benchmarks to assess the quality of health care provided in government facilities. As per the order issued, the period between 2021 and 2030 is declared as the International Decade of Quality Service, and it reported that more than 50% of the ailments at the global level are due to poor or delayed treatment.
Healthcare organisation that fails to achieve the expected target (NQAS certification) within three months will be disqualified from receiving team incentives under AB-ArK (Ayushman Bharat Arogya Karnataka) and if they fail to achieve the expected levels in six months, it will be recorded in the annual performance reports of the representatives of the health centres and they will be linked to transfers.
If no progress is made within nine months, the annual salary increment of all heads and medical/paramedical officers/staff working in such health institutions will be withheld. In case of no progress, the staff will be held accountable for poor quality care or treatment. The government granted a 'lead period' of three months to implement the order.

Hassan, Mandya Top Gainers under AB-PMJAY in Karnataka
MANGALURU: Hassan, Mandya and Belagavi have emerged as top gainers in healthcare delivery under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) in Karnataka. Hassan has recorded 10,65,825 hospital admissions since the scheme's inception in 2018. The district's performance accelerated rapidly in recent years, with 3.65 lakh admissions in 2024-25 alone, making it the single highest contributor to AB-PMJAY in Karnataka. Close behind is Mandya, with 9,86,883 cumulative admissions, including an impressive 3.07 lakh in 2023-24 and 2.98 lakh in 2024-25, solidifying its place among the top beneficiaries. Belagavi, with 6,34,513 admissions, has shown steady year-on-year growth, expanding from just over 6,000 admissions in 2018-19 to more than 2.06 lakh in the latest year. Mysuru, a consistent performer, has logged 6,13,065 total admissions, supported by robust infrastructure and awareness, while Tumakuru rounds out the top five with 5,07,315 admissions, reflecting strong gains especially after 2022. These five districts together account for more than 38 lakh hospitalisations, demonstrating the effectiveness of decentralised implementation, improved public awareness, and increased hospital empanelment across the state.

Work on Jeypore economic corridor to start soon: CM Majhi
BHUBANESWAR/ JEYPORE: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced that construction of the six-lane Bhubaneswar-Berhampur-Jeypore economic corridor will be started soon. On the second day of his visit to Koraput district, Majhi also inaugurated the 650-bed hospital at Saheed Laxman Naik Medical College built at a cost of Rs 280 crore. Addressing a function on the occasion, the chief minister said the economic corridor will play a vital role in all-round development of Koraput district by boosting connectivity to different parts of the state. The expansion of the hospital of the medical college will be a boon for the people of the district and neighbouring region as they will no longer have to travel to other cities for availing quality treatment and health services. The new hospital will benefit the people of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and also the neighbouring areas of Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, he said. Announcing that all vacancies in medical and allied posts at the SLN MCH will be filled up soon, Majhi said a cancer hospital is also being built on an area of two acre adjacent to the hospital at a cost Rs 41.15 crore. Emphasising focus of his government to provide best of healthcare in every district, the CM said there are 12 government medical colleges in the state at present and four more are coming up in Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Nabarangpur districts. He also said the implementation of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) has greatly benefitted the people of the state with more than 3.46 crore covered under the scheme along with Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana (GJAY). The government has already released Rs 900 crore in lieu of cashless treatment provided to the people in best of hospitals, he said. Under the Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana, 8,644 senior citizens aged above 70 have received free treatment worth Rs 35.60 crore. In Koraput district alone, over three lakh AB-PMJAY and GJAY cards have been distributed, with 9,006 people enrolled under the senior citizens' scheme, he added. The chief minister said four private hospitals in Koraput district are empanelled under the ABPMJAY-GJAY, enabling local access to cashless treatment. Health and Family Welfare minister Mukesh Mahaling was present among others.

11 more hospitals in state bag national quality accreditation
T'puram: Health minister Veena George said 11 more healthcare institutions in the state received national quality accreditations. In a statement issued on Sunday, the minister said a total of 251 healthcare institutions in state were accredited with National Quality Assurance Standards ( NQAS ). These include eight district hospitals, six taluk hospitals, 13 community health centres, 46 urban family health centres, 162 family health centres and 16 public health centres. Kozhikode general hospital scored 90.66 per cent, Malappuram Tirurangadi taluk hospital 91.84 per cent, Ernakulam Kumbalangi community health centre 96.90 per cent, Ernakulam Panangad family health centre (FHC) 95.83 per cent, Kozhikode Arikkulam FHC 95.58 per cent, Malappuram Pookkottumanna public health centre (PHC) 85.26 per cent, Malappuram Melangadi PHC 82.77 per cent, Kozhikode Kakkadampoyil PHC 81.99 per cent, Kozhikode Koombara PHC 82.89 per cent, Kozhikode Ponnankayam PHC 94.89 per cent and Kannur Morazha PHC 92.65 per cent in receiving the latest NQAS accreditation. Kozhikode general hospital received NQAS, Lakshya and MusQan accreditations together. The operation theatre for pregnant women at Kozhikode general hospital scored 90.38 per cent, the labour room 88.85 per cent, and bagged MusQan certification with a score of 92.07 per cent. The labour room at Tirurangadi taluk hospital achieved Lakshya certification with a score of 89 per cent. Lakshya accreditation programme is implemented to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in the state, and ensure quality care for pregnant women and newborns at delivery points in govt hospitals. So far, 15 hospitals in state have received Lakshya certification, including three medical colleges, nine district hospitals and three taluk hospitals. MusQan initiative aims to reduce morbidity and mortality among newborns and children, and ensure quality child-friendly services at public health centres for children from birth to 12 years of age. So far, six healthcare institutions in state have received MusQan certification, including two medical colleges and four district hospitals.
