Viral 'Nothing' phone series debuts in UAE: Price, features, and all you need to know

Khaleej Times20-03-2025

Tech enthusiasts in the UAE have something to look forward to as Nothing officially launches its latest smartphone lineup, the Nothing Phone (3a) series. Bringing a fresh take on smartphone design and performance, the Phone (3a) and Phone (3a) Pro continue the brand's mission of delivering cutting-edge technology with a striking aesthetic. Sales in the UAE commence on March 20, marking a significant milestone in Nothing's expansion into the region.
Design & Display
Nothing has built a reputation for its transparent design philosophy, and the Phone (3a) series proudly upholds this tradition. The Phone (3a) comes in White, Black, and Blue, while the Phone (3a) Pro is available in Grey and Black, offering a premium and futuristic look.
Nothing's Regional Director for the Middle East, Rishi Kishor Gupta, who was at the phone's launch event in the UAE on March 19, shared his top three standout features of the latest series. For him, the design comes first. He makes a bold claim that users may not be able to identify which brand a phone belongs to if its brand name is removed. "That's where our phones are very unique," he says. "And that's the best part that I like, the design."
Both models feature Nothing's signature Glyph Interface, an array of LED light strips on the back that provide visual notifications, customisable alerts, and even serve as a functional tool for camera lighting. The immersive display on the series boasts vivid colors and smooth refresh rates, ensuring an exceptional viewing experience for users.
Rishi goes on to share his two favourite features: The Glyph interface and the Essential Space. "The Glyph interface does it for me, especially when I call ubers and a countdown timer is visible," he said. "That is something which is really amazing for me."
The Nothing OS system is also quite seamless, he says, "it is very clear and smooth. We don't have any unnecessary block in the software. We made it so fast versus all other computers because we don't overload the software with block layers."
As for the Essential Space, it is an AI feature that organises your content and prompts action. "Everything in one place. It removes the friction from recalling content," the official feature description read. "AI organises your captures and generates personalised suggestions and actions to help you stay on top of things."
"I am using it a lot," Rishi says. "It is telling me my Fazza card will expire soon. We wanted to give something more useful to our consumers and that's why we created this Essential Space."
Performance & Power
Under the hood, the Nothing Phone (3a) is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 processor, designed to deliver a seamless balance between performance and power efficiency. The Phone (3a) Pro, on the other hand, is expected to house a more advanced chipset, offering enhanced capabilities for multitasking and gaming.
Both devices come with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, ensuring ample space and speed for everyday tasks and demanding applications alike. Additionally, the AI Engine optimises performance, making the experience smoother and more intuitive.
Camera & Imaging
Nothing has emphasised the importance of camera innovation in its latest lineup. The Phone (3a) and 3a Pro feature advanced dual-camera setups, engineered to capture stunning photos and videos in various lighting conditions. Enhanced AI-powered processing ensures improved image quality, while the Glyph Interface can be used as a fill light for more natural and professional-looking shots.
Battery & Charging
Battery life remains a crucial factor, and Nothing has equipped the Phone (3a) series with a robust battery that supports fast charging. Users can expect reliable, all-day battery life with optimised power consumption, keeping them connected and productive throughout the day.
UAE Pricing & Availability
The Nothing Phone (3a) (12GB + 256GB) is priced at Dh1,399, making it a compelling option for those looking for a stylish yet powerful device. Meanwhile, the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro (12GB + 256GB) is available for Dh1,749, offering additional enhancements for users who want a more premium experience.
An exclusive offer on Amazon UAE and Lulu allows users to buy the Nothing Phone (3a) (8GB + 128GB) for just Dh999.
Both devices will be available across select retail partners and online stores in the UAE starting March 20.
Talking about the UAE market, Rishi said, "The consumers here are very advanced. They are ready to adapt and embrace the new technologies and products if they connect with it. We have the right set of products and that's why UAE is at the core of our strategy."
He adds, "We have so many launches this year and we will keep surprising you until the end of this year."
For tech lovers looking to stand out while enjoying top-tier performance, the Nothing Phone (3a) and 3a Pro might just be the perfect choice.

UK: Cambridge students relaunch pro-Palestine encampment

Students at the UK's University of Cambridge have relaunched a protest encampment outside Trinity College, one of its largest and wealthiest colleges, calling on the institution to disclose and divest from companies complicit in Israel's war on Gaza. The group behind the protest, Cambridge for Palestine (C4P), is demanding the University 'take urgent steps' to end what it calls its 'moral and material complicity in Israel's genocide of Palestinians.' C4P says Trinity College holds investments in companies such as Elbit Systems, Caterpillar, L3Harris Technologies, and Barclays - despite the university's previous commitment to review its 'responsible investment' policy following a similar months-long encampment last year. In a statement, C4P said the renewed protest came after 'months of student, faculty, and community frustration' over the University's failure to honour those pledges. The group outlined four core demands, including full disclosure of financial ties to companies implicated in Israeli violations of international law, full divestment from them, and reinvestment in Palestinian communities. New MEE newsletter: Jerusalem Dispatch Sign up to get the latest insights and analysis on Israel-Palestine, alongside Turkey Unpacked and other MEE newsletters This includes support for Palestinian students and academics at Cambridge, rebuilding higher education institutions in Gaza, and forming partnerships with Palestinian universities. 'Repressive measures' C4P also demanded the need for the university to "protect the academic freedoms and safety of all University of Cambridge affiliates," as well as reversing "targeted anti-protest policies that restrict pro-Palestine speech". In March, the University was granted a High Court order barring pro-Palestine actions from three locations on its campus until the end of July 2025 - a reduced version of its original bid to secure a five-year ban on 27 February, which was rejected in court. "This is the first major action on Cambridge's campus after the university enacted repressive measures to criminalise protest for Palestine," a student camper, who wished to remain anonymous for security reasons, told Middle East Eye. "We know that our acts of protest come with risks of further repression and targeting, yet the escalation of genocide demands our action. There are no universities left in Gaza. We will not deterred when our university funds mass murder." 'So long as Cambridge and its colleges remain backers of the Zionist project, we will continue to return' - C4P representative Cambridge University is made up of 31 self-governing colleges which operate autonomously, including in their financial investments. Many of them have faced protests over their investments since the launch of Israel's war on Gaza in October 2023. On 20 May, King's College announced it would divest millions from the arms industry and companies complicit in "the occupation of Ukraine and Palestinian territories," becoming the first Oxford or Cambridge college to take such measures. "Cambridge for Palestine is here to show the University that we are back," C4P representative said in a statement. "So long as Cambridge and its colleges remain backers of the Zionist project, we will continue to return and disrupt the University's violence shrouded in so-called normalcy."
