The truth behind Nicole Kidman's shock new look: Stylist reveals if A-list star's new pixie cut is the real deal
The Australian actress, 57, stepped out at the Metropolitan Museum of Art sporting a slick pixie cut by Adir Abergel which delighted her admirers.
But as close-up photos emerged of the new look, fans began to speculate if the star's new hairstyle may in fact be a wig.
Nicole's habit of wearing wigs in Hollywood movies has earned her a cult following over the years.
The Hollywood star has rarely showcased her natural hair in films since the early days of her career, and almost exclusively wears wigs for all of her movie roles.
An Aussie stylist has now weighed in on her most radical red carpet look and believes her new short style could be a mix of her real hair and extensions.
'This could be Nicole's real hair with the length at the back disguised under some artfully placed, clipped or glued in hair pieces,' Bixie Colour hairstylist Andrew Newport said.
'This look, which appears to have been achieved by hair magic, could have been created by taking the hair at the back of the head and braiding tightly to the scalp. Nicole's real hair is featured at the front fringe, plus the hair extensions at the nape would be dressed over the disguised hair.
'This would take a bit of work and considerable time but is 100% achievable.'
Speculation about Nicole's new do kicked off just hours after the Baby Girl star walked the red carpet and fans flocked to her hairstylist Adir's Instagram page.
Adir shared several photos and videos of the Nicole's short hair as she walked the red carpet, expressing pride in his work.
And while followers sang praises of his talents, many believed he had styled a wig rather than Nicole's own hair.
One fan went so far as to ask Adir outright, but the hairstylist managed to side-step the question and chose not to confirm or deny.
'As a hairdresser of 32 years I have to say, this hair out shined the dress! Stunning... You are amazing. Is it a wig or did you cut her hair?' the follower asked.
'Thank you baby. I am truly touched,' Adir responded without answering the pointed question.
Even Italian hairstylist Marco Bresciani Testa said: 'Great job Well done that Wig suit the perfection [sic] and @nicolekidman makes it so real!'
Other fans left their own comments about Nicole's hair, with one saying: 'She always has the best wigs! Love the look!'
'I hope this is not a wig she looks amazing,' said another.
'She looks stunning! If the hair isn't actually cut short it should be,' someone else commented.
'The hair is so striking but it's gotta be a wig, right? She looked classical gorgeous in a years by way,' one person speculated.
Another said, 'Beautiful wig,' as someone else wrote: 'Is this a wig or she really did cut all her hair?'
'Please tell me it's not a wig because she looks stunning with this cut,' yet another praised.
'You should always do her wigs,' a final comment read.
Daily Mail Australia has reached out to Nicole and her hairstylist Adir for further comment.
Whether the new hair is real or a wig, there is one thing Nicole's fans can agree on—it looks incredible.
Scores of fanatics shared their thoughts on it, with many praising the star for ditching her common use of hairpieces and showing her 'real' hair.
'Omg Nicole Kidman on the MET stairs… fiercely gorgeous. Love the short hair on this lady!' wrote one.
Another said: 'Wow! Nicole Kidman looked stunning. Love love love her new hair style.'
Someone else said, 'NICOLE KIDMAN SHORT HAIR THE WORLD IS HEALING,' while one more wrote: 'Obsessed with Nicole Kidman's hair cut.'
Yet another pondered, 'Oh snap, when was the last time we've seen Nicole Kidman's real hair?' while one more agreed: 'Nicole Kidman with her real hair today.'
'NICOLE KIDMAN SHORT HAIR NO WIG,' shouted one more fan while another chimed in: 'Nicole Kidman SANS WIG?'
Nicole looked incredible in a custom black Balenciaga gown, fitting in with the Superfine: Tailoring Black Style theme.
She struck her best sultry expression as she flaunted her new look, slicking back her blonde tresses which featured a brunette undercut.
Her backless gown was cinched at her waist and hips with decorative belts, and the Baby Girl star accessorised the look with black gloves.
The actress finished her glamorous look with silver and diamond leaf motif pieces by Cindy Chao and added a pop of red to her lips.
One of the few times Nicole has displayed her naturally curly hair in a movie was in her first feature film, 1983's BMX Bandits.
Interestingly, she is known to get a little touchy when asked her use of wigs.
She hung up on The Kyle and Jackie O Show last year when asked about her wigs and also shut down a similar question from a journalist at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2018.
Footage surfaced of the cringeworthy moment the star rolled her eyes and swiftly branded the question 'awful'.
The Oscar winner appeared dumbfounded after a male podcast host asked her to to rank her favourite films according to the wigs she wore in them.
As the press conference burst into laughter, Nicole responded in disbelief: 'It's a very wiggy movie, did you say?'
The panel adjudicator then repeated the question, saying: 'He [the podcast host] was saying... he was ranking all your movies by wig and where do you feel like this [Destroyer] falls in terms of that?'
Nicole widened her eyes and pursed her lips, before declaring: 'That is an awful question! I am shutting that question down!'
The adjudicator agreed Nicole didn't need to entertain the discussion and suggested they 'move on' to a more suitable question.
Nicole's cagieness on the subject has led to some wild conspiracy theories.
During an episode of their What's The Tee podcast, RuPaul and Michelle Visage jokingly suggested the actress could be using wigs to hide the fact she is bald.
RuPaul said 'absolutely nobody does wigs like Nicole', sparking a lighthearted debate about her changing hairstyles.
'The irony is that we rarely ever see Nicole Kidman's hair,' RuPaul said.
Michelle swiftly responded: 'I think she's bald!'
'She's not bald!' replied RuPaul, correcting her.
'She's just got curly hair that ends up being very brittle.'

They had one of the most famous love stories of the '90s and have just reunited... can you guess the former on-screen couple?
Two stars had one of the most famous love stories in the '90s and recently had a mini reunion. The former Hollywood couple notably sparked up a romance while in the midst of filming a beloved teen drama series - with their own characters also playing each other's love interests. However, the actors eventually split and moved on with other relationships - with each later going through a divorce. When the show came to an end, the castmates had an 18-year estrangement which they have since blamed, in part, on their exes. But the stars have since reconciled and developed a close friendship. Can you guess the former on and off-screen couple? Two stars had one of the most famous love stories in the '90s and recently had a mini reunion - can you guess who they are? It is Tori Spelling and Brian Austin Green - who both played leading roles in the drama series Beverly Hills, 90210. The pair had the chance to reunite this week and shared the memorable moment in a joint post to their Instagram pages on Thursday. Tori and Brian - both 52 - flashed cheerful smiles towards the camera as the actor snapped a quick selfie. The actress penned in the caption, 'a little D & D in the wild never gets old,' referencing to the first names of their characters on the show: Donna Martin and David Slater. The mom-of-five was stylishly casual for the lowkey outing in a pair of denim overalls as well as a red bandeau top underneath. Her blonde locks were parted in the middle and effortlessly flowed down past her shoulders in light waves. For a finishing touch, Tori also sported a pair of red-rimmed sunglasses. Brian stayed cool in the warmer weather in a short-sleeved, white shirt and added a cap on top of his head. While their characters in Beverly Hills, 90210 were love interests - Tori and Brian also sparked up a romance amidst filming the earlier seasons of the Fox series. When the show came to an end in 2000 after 10 seasons, the two stars had a notable falling out - resulting in an estrangement that lasted for 18 years. Tori went on to marry Charlie Shanian in 2004 but they divorced two years later. She then tied the knot with Dean McDermott in 2006 and they welcomed five children during the course of their marriage. Back in 2023, their separation was announced and the TV personality filed for divorce last year in March. Brian also dated his Beverly Hills, 90210 co-star Vanessa Marcil from 1999 until 2003. They share a son named Kassius. The actor went on to say 'I do' to Transformers actress Megan Fox in 2010 but the former couple divorced in 2021 after welcoming three children. He is now engaged to professional dancer Sharna Burgess and they are parents to a three-year-old son. Last year in April, Tori revealed that her heart has not been broken since 'first love' Brian on an episode of her misSpelling podcast. While talking to guest and late actress Shannen Doherty, Tori recalled a conversation she had with Brian following her split from Dean after 18 years of marriage, per Page Six. She remembered telling Brian, 'No, I was in love. Maybe I wasn't in love. I'm not sure. No one's broken my heart since you.' After her confession, Tori said, 'And there was like pause, pause. And I was like, "Oh my God, this is the first time I've said it in 30 years."' While she labeled Brian as 'the first love of my life,' she expressed to Shannen that both she and Brian still have a close bond but emphasized there was nothing romantic. 'You know how close Brian and I are. I tell him everything. We're brother and sister and best friend so close. We can have that connection. 'Recently we were talking about my situation and being in love and being crushed, being hurt, and moving on and now being single and the next chapter in my life. He's been so great and such a champion.' Tori added, 'At times he gives me such inspiring words of you can do it professionally and personally.' The star has also been supportive of Brian's relationship with Sharna. 'I love his fiancée. It's not that. But if he says something to me, I get so flustered and riled up and it takes me right back to being my 18-year-old self,' the actress explained. And in August of last year, Tori and Brian also reflected on their years-long estrangement on his Oldish podcast. 'I remember our last conversation and the last thing we said to each other before those 18 years. I was crying,' Tori said. 'I remember crying that we were going to lose touch because we were so close. It was almost like going through a divorce or something.' Brian remembered Tori being so engrossed in her live-in relationship with their co-star Vincent Young that she could not reciprocate their friendship. He explained how he had tried to keep their 'connection' by visiting her, but felt like he wasn't getting the same from her. 'It was just this thing of like, "She just doesn't want to be my friend." I genuinely felt that way. I tried to visit you and I would call you. When that wasn't reciprocated and so I gave up. I didn't know what was going on in your life.' Tori admitted she would 'panic' whenever Brian would visit due to her 'complicated relationship' with the male model, who played Noah Hunter. She added that it was 'frustrating' to watch Brian's two-year relationship with their co-star Vanessa Marcil, which deteriorated into a 13-year court battle involving a $200K loan and custody of their son Kassius. 'That relationship was frustrating to see from a friend's perspective who loves someone so much. To see what is going on and see how your friend is treated and not be okay with it,' the LA-born nepo-baby lamented. Brian remembered Tori being so engrossed in her live-in relationship with their co-star Vincent Young that she could not reciprocate their friendship; Tori and Vincent seen in 2001 in Hollywood However, Tori and Brian finally reconnected in 2018 when they played heightened versions of themselves in the six-episode continuation BH90210, which aired in 2019 on Fox 'But also knowing that you can't really say anything because the person has to go through their own experience and go on their journey.' However, Tori and Brian finally reconnected in 2018 when they played heightened versions of themselves in the six-episode continuation BH90210, which aired in 2019 on Fox. The two stars have had other mini reunions in recent years, such as in 2024 when they also joined Ian Ziering at The Hollywood Show. Tori and Brian also

Reese Witherspoon posts rare snap of all 3 kids while revealing why being a parent in Hollywood is so 'challenging'
Reese Witherspoon shared a rare photo of herself with all three of her children on Thursday as she opened up about how 'challenging' it is to be a mother and a busy Hollywood star. The 49-year-old Oscar winner beamed in her photo as she was joined by her daughter Ava Phillippe, 25, and older son Deacon Phillippe, 21, as well as her youngest son Tennessee Toth, 12. Reese shares her lookalike older children with her first husband, the actor Ryan Phillippe, while Tennessee is from her second marriage to the talent agent Jim Toth. The Legally Blonde stsar — whose mini-me daughter recently landed her first lead role in a film — showed off a brilliant smile while her kids surrounded her for the family photo. She delved into her struggles raising her three children and how it was nearly impossible to become a massively successful actress without heavily involving her kids in her work. 'Someone asked me what raising three kids and building a career in Hollywood looked like...' she began her slideshow. 'It looked like spending a lot of time in trailers together,' she continued with a photo of Tennessee climbing on the back of a sofa in her trailer on a set. Then she posted a photo of herself in the backseat of a car with a much younger Ava and Deacon sitting next to her. 'It looked like always being on the road together,' she continued. Then she joked that raising her family also 'looked like my kids constantly giving me career advice!' Reese included a screenshot of a text message from Deacon in which he informed her that she had 'butt-dialed an instagram live.' He helpfully included a screenshot of the pitch-black Instagram screen as flummoxed fans commented on it. The Morning Show actress went on to admit that parenting her three kids 'looked really hard sometimes.' 'I'd cry working 14 to 17 hours, sometimes all night long and still woke up early for carpool. I was deliriously tired,' she admitted, though she attached the text to a photo of herself smiling ear to ear while cuddling with Ava and Deacon, who looked much more like his younger brother in the old photo than he does now. Even though she displayed an ear-to-ear smile, Reese said she would 'cry' after 'working 14 to 17 hours, sometimes all night long,' even though she still had to get up early to take her kids to school 'It looked like trying to say something positive about work when I got home at night,' Reese continued.' She added, 'So my kids would know that my work was meaningful to me and could be fun!' Reese illustrated that fun with a photo of herself dressed as a police officer from her 2015 comedy Hot Pursuit, which she starred in with Sofía Vergara. She was joined under a tent on set by a young Deacon, who showed off a soft smile that contrasted with her winning grin. The Walk The Line star capped off her series of posts with a sweet photo of young Ava leaning against her affectionately as they posed in front of a lake. 'In conclusion, even though it was challenging at times, having kids gave me perspective about what was important in life. 'Nothing was better than getting to come home and hug them and hear about their day!' she wrote. In her caption, Reese added that she was 'Grateful to stand alongside other moms in this beautiful, messy journey 💕.' Reese shares her two oldest children, Ava and Deacon, with her first husband, the actor Ryan Phillippe. Her Little Fires Everywhere costar Kerry Washington wrote in the comments: 'This hit hard today. Straight into my heart. Thank you.' The Emily In Paris star Lily Collins also chimed in, writing, 'Thank you for this ❤️.' Reese was married to her older children's father Ryan from 1999 to 2007. The two had announced their separation in October 2006, and she filed for divorce in November of that year over irreconcilable differences. An affair Ryan allegedly had with the actress Abbie Cornish was also reportedly a contributing circumstance. After a two-year relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal from 2007 to 2009, Reese started up another relationship with Jim Toth in 2010, and they tied the knot the following year. She welcomed Tennessee in September 2012, but her marriage to Jim came to an end in 2023.

Kylie Minogue responds to claims Taylor Swift copied her look
Taylor Swift has unveiled imagery for her forthcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, featuring a burlesque-style diamante leotard and 1920s flapper-style costumes. Some fans accused Swift of copying Kylie Minogue 's Showgirl era, an aesthetic the Australian pop singer adopted for her greatest hits tour in 2006. Minogue responded on Instagram by sharing throwback photos from her tour, saying the 'Showgirl life is ... so much more than feathers and dazzle', and expressing respect for other 'hard working Showgirls'. Fans said Minogue's post showed she admires Swift and was not intended as criticism or 'shade'. Swift's new album was inspired by her experiences during her record-breaking Eras Tour and is her first release since she regained the full rights to her initial six records.
