YSRCP demands PR certificates for Foreign Medical Graduates in Andhra Pradesh
A YSRCP delegation, including former minister and YSRCP Medical Wing president Seediri Appalaraju, former MLAs Gopireddy Srinivasa Reddy and Monditoka Jagan Mohan Rao, and other party leaders, submitted a memorandum to the medical college officials, urging swift redressal of FMG grievances, here on Friday.
Later, addressing the media, Dr. Appalaraju said the delegation visited the students on the instructions of former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to express solidarity and press for justice. He criticised the government's 'unjust and harsh treatment' of students who had completed a 54-month foreign medical course, cleared mandatory exams, completed internships abroad and in India, and fulfilled all eligibility criteria.
'Despite meeting all the requirements, the government continues to deny PR on flimsy grounds, unlike in States like Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu,' Dr. Appalaraju said. He rejected the State's justification regarding online classes during COVID, noting that compensatory and in-person internships had already been completed.
The YSRCP leaders condemned the use of police force on peacefully protesting students and demanded that all related cases be dropped. They contrasted Mr. Jagan's efforts to strengthen public healthcare by establishing 17 new medical colleges with former Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's alleged neglect, citing Mr. Naidu's refusal to accept 2,550 medical seats sanctioned by the Centre.
They alleged that Mr. Naidu's policies had pushed thousands of students to study abroad and that the current coalition government is now denying them a fair chance to practise in India.
The YSRCP urged the State government to stop penalising qualified students and act immediately to safeguard their futures.

A.P. CM orders release of water into Jeedipalli reservoir under HNSS Project from July 15
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has instructed the Water Resources Department (WRD) to release 3,850 cusecs of water into the Jeedipalli reservoir under the first phase of the Handri–Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) Project from July 15. Water from Jeedipalli will then be used to fill the Gollapalli, Marala, and Cherlopalli reservoirs. Addressing a review meeting on major irrigation projects at his camp office on Saturday, Mr. Naidu ordered that water be released through the Phase‑II canal to Punganur and Kuppam branch canals by July 31. He said the government's continuous efforts over the last one year to ensure the supply of irrigation water to Rayalaseema were yielding significant results, pointing out that ₹3,890 crore had been sanctioned for HNSS works. With the completion of the canal extension and lining works, several areas in the Rayalaseema region would receive water to agricultural fields for the first time. Water from Jeedipalli would also be routed to the Penna Ahobilam Balancing Reservoir for 15 days starting July 15. Mr. Naidu asked the officials to implement a comprehensive plan for efficient water management, with particular attention to recharging the groundwater. Officials informed Mr. Naidu that all districts except Kadapa have received normal rainfall so far and the forecast for the coming days was optimistic. As on date, reservoirs in the State are holding 419 tmc ft of water, which is a significant increase from the 182 tmc ft stored at the same time last year. Mr. Naidu stressed on the need to fully utilise the inflows coming through the HNSS and Pothireddypadu system for filling reservoirs across Rayalaseema. He noted that major projects in the Penna basin, including Somasila and Kandaleru, were well‑positioned to store water, and irrigation should be prioritised before filling the reservoirs. Mr. Naidu ordered the immediate commencement of Galeru–Nagari canal works to supply water to Kadapa and called for tenders to be issued without delay for Phase‑II of the Handri–Neeva canal to supply water to the southernmost parts of Chittoor district He instructed the officials to ensure the completion of Veligonda project in Prakasam district by June 2026, and Polavaram Left Canal works by July 31. Due focus should be laid on expediting the construction of Uttarandhra irrigation projects, and all outstanding works in the Vamsadhara–Nagavali linkage project must be completed at the earliest. The Uttarandhra Sujala Sravanthi project should be integrated with those systems, the Chief Minister said. Mr. Naidu stressed the need for comprehensive water auditing by Vassar Labs to ensure efficient planning and resource utilisation. Water Resources Minister Nimmala Rama Naidu and senior officials took part in the meeting held in virtual mode.

Piyush Goyal seeks apology from CM Siddaramaiah over remarks on vaccine
Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday demanded that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah apologise to the country's scientists and pharmaceutical sector for his recent remarks linking COVID-19 vaccines to a spate of heart attack deaths in the state and questioned whether he was "running the agenda of foreign forces". Accusing the Chief Minister of "insulting" India's scientists, startups, and its pharmaceutical strength, Goyal said his comments undermine the people who worked tirelessly during the pandemic. According to Goyal, it is "unfortunate" that such remarks are coming from the CM of a country that is known as the 'pharmacy of the world', a country where our startups are expanding and forming an ecosystem, a country where our vaccines were exported on a large scale to other nations. This was possible only because our pharmaceutical companies had the strength and innovation to produce vaccines at a cost of less than Rs 100, he told reporters here. Lauding the pharmaceutical companies, he said they made India proud. "We didn't just roll out one vaccine, but two. The country was able to provide free vaccines to our entire population... He insulted our scientists and pharmaceutical companies," he claimed. "Is he running the agenda of foreign forces that want to harm India's pharmaceutical sector, disturbed by India's financial growth? Whether it is the Congress party, the CM, or all their partners, do they want to strengthen the hands of foreign forces by demeaning India? He should answer and apologise to our scientists and pharmaceutical companies," he further alleged. Earlier, addressing the IIT Madras Alumni Association's Sangam 2025 event here, he added that Siddaramaiah does not take pride in India's success or its startups and scientists. Instead, he is "ashamed of India and its startups achieving such remarkable success." He credited Bharat Biotech for developing India's first indigenous COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, and Oxford-AstraZeneca for granting rights to produce Covishield at Pune-based Serum Institute of India. "We were not only able to provide 2.5 billion vaccines free of charge to all our citizens, but also supplied vaccines to over 100 nations, particularly less developed or developing countries that otherwise had no protection against this disease," he said. Goyal pointed out that even today, India is being thanked for the medicines and vaccines it provided to other nations during the pandemic. "They (Congress) want to run down India's success stories, and it pains us when we hear this kind of negativity coming from certain sections of society," he alleged. Neither the Congress nor Siddaramaiah has responded to Goyal's claims so far.
