5 bright students from UP to pursue fully-funded master's degree from top universities in UK, know about the scheme
As part of the initiative, five bright students from Uttar Pradesh will be sponsored to pursue a one-year master's degree at recognised universities in the UK, as reported by news agency PTI.

What will the scholarship cover
The scholarship will cover the following every year:
Tuition, examination and research fees Living allowance One return economy-class airfare
UK government, FDCO sign MoU
The new scholarship comes in line as part of the 'Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee-Chevening Uttar Pradesh Government Scholarship Scheme,' launched by the UP government in partnership with the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
The program will run from academic year 2025-26 through 2027-28, wherein the state government will bear approximately 19,800 pounds (about ₹23 lakh) for each selected student.

Whereas the remaining scholarship amount - ranging between 38,048 pounds and 42,076 pounds per student - will be borne by the FCDO, the PTI report added.
The scheme was passed during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday.
Meanwhile, in other major decisions, the UP Cabinet also approved the proposals for setting up three new private universities in Muzaffarnagar, Mathura, and Barabanki.
These include the Vedanta University in Muzaffarnagar, which will be built on 23.3349 acres of land in village Hussainpur Bopada, tehsil Khatauli, within the Muzaffarnagar Development Authority limits.

Likewise, the KD University will be set up in Mathura, and the Bodhisattva University will come up in Barabanki.

US tariffs on Indian oil imports from Russia a 'big blow' to Moscow: Trump
Agency: Last Updated: August 11, 2025, 22:45 IST Representational image (Image: News18) Washington/New York, Aug 11 (PTI) President Donald Trump on Monday said American tariffs imposed on India for purchasing Russian oil have dealt a 'big blow" to Moscow's economy, which is not doing well, as he referred to New Delhi as Russia's 'largest or second largest oil buyer". Addressing a press conference at the White House, Trump claimed that Russia's economy has been severely disrupted by the ongoing global pressures due to the imposition of US tariffs on several countries. 'I think Russia has to get back into building their country. It's a massive country… They have tremendous potential in Russia to do well. They're not doing well. Their economy is not doing well right now because it's been very well disturbed by this," he said. 'Doesn't help when the President of the United States tells their largest or second-largest oil buyer that we're putting a 50% tariff on you if you buy oil from Russia. That was a big blow," Trump said, in an apparent reference to India. Trump has imposed 25 per cent reciprocal tariffs on India, along with an additional 25 per cent levy on its purchases of Russian oil, resulting in a total of 50 per cent duties. Trump is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday, where he expects 'constructive conversations". 'I thought it was very respectful that the President of Russia is coming to our country, as opposed to us going to his country or even a third-party place. But I think we'll have constructive conversations," he said, adding that he would speak with European leaders after the meeting. Trump also mentioned his plans to engage with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. 'The next meeting will be with Zelenskyy and Putin, or Zelenskyy and Putin and me. I'll be there if they need but I want to have a meeting set up between the two leaders," he said. Trump also claimed that he has solved five wars so far in his second term in the White House and again claimed he stopped the conflict between India and Pakistan. India has been consistently maintaining that the understanding on cessation of hostilities with Pakistan was reached following direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two militaries. UP to launch over 3000 Balvatikas on Independence Day to boost early education
Last Updated: Lucknow, Aug 11 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh government will launch more than 3000 newly established Balvatikas across the state on Independence Day, an official statement said on Monday. Public representatives, officials and parents will join celebrations at these centres to encourage children, while programmes will highlight the importance of early learning, its benefits and key government initiatives, it said. The move is aimed at building a strong educational foundation and shaping the next generation into creative, confident and responsible citizens, the statement added. The National Education Policy 2020 identifies Early Childhood Care and Education as the most critical stage of the learning journey. Following this vision, the state government decided to transform all co-located Anganwadi centres into Balvatikas. The first eight years of life are crucial for brain development and learning ability, and these Balvatikas will help children develop linguistic, cognitive, social and creative skills, it said. Low-enrolment schools have been merged with nearby institutions to consolidate resources. After renovation, beautification, creation of child-friendly classrooms, a print-rich environment and provision of learning materials, these schools have been prepared for Balvatika operations. Basic Education Minister Sandeep Singh said the state government is giving top priority to early education, with Balvatikas designed to ensure children's holistic development and nutrition so they grow into strong, confident and responsible citizens. 'Making over 3,000 Balvatikas operational on August 15 is a major step towards providing children a solid foundation for learning," he said. Director General of School Education Kanchan Verma said all necessary facilities have been ensured, including activity-based kits (Wonder Box), learning corners, outdoor play equipment, child-friendly furniture and stationery.
