'Lost 45 aircraft in 1965, 71 in 1971': BJP MP Nishikant Dubey in Lok Sabha
Nishikant Dubey was speaking in Hindi in Lok Sabha on Tuesday when there was a technical glitch in the translator system. Following this, DMK MPs requested him to speak in English.
Dubey refused to do so, saying English is a foreign language.
"...It would have been better if you had asked me to speak in Tamil or Bengali. English is a foreign language, and your insistence on it reflects your mindset. Someone spoke in Bengali for half an hour, yet Tamil Nadu MPs didn't object. You only have a problem with Hindi. Congress and its allies don't like North Indians or Hindi. If you keep promoting English, we'll end up becoming England," the BJP MP said, adding, "Hum phir se gulaam ho jayenge (We will become slaves again).

Fortunately, the technical glitch was resolved after a few minutes, and Dubey was able to finish his speech.
"India lost 45 aircraft in the 1965 war and 71 aircraft in the 1971 war. But we never made this an issue as we are nationalists," he said, accusing opposition of spreading falsehoods regarding India's losses in Operation Sindoor.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday (July 31, 2025) demanded apologies from the Congress for 'crafting narratives like Hindu terrorism' after a court acquitted all seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. A special NIA court in Mumbai, in its judgment, said that the prosecution 'failed to prove the case' and that the accused 'deserved the benefit of doubt' while acquitting Ms. Thakur, Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit and five others. Six people had lost their lives in the blast on September 29, 2008, in Malegaon city of Maharashtra's Nashik district. Former M.P. Chief Minister Uma Bharti welcomed the verdict and said that the case was used to 'draft a theory of saffron terrorism' while accusing Congress leader and former CM Digvijaya Singh of being its 'originator'. 'The definition of saffron terrorism was coined during this case. Its originator was Digvijaya Singh ji and he was doing this work at the behest of [Congress leader] Rahul Gandhi. To defame Hindutva all over the world, the term saffron terrorism was coined in comparison to Islamic terrorism. And to prove the term, innocent people were made victims,' Ms. Bharti said, while claiming that Ms. Thakur and Lt. Col. Purohit faced severe torture in prison. While specifying that terrorism has no colour, Ms. Bharti claimed that the term 'saffron terrorism' was coined by those who were trying to appease the minorities. She asked what action will be taken against those who 'conspired against the Hindu community'. M.P. CM Mohan Yadav also took to X to hail the verdict and said that it is a 'blow to the Congress' narrow-minded mentality'. 'This verdict is a strong response to those who insult Sanatan Dharma, sadhus-saints, and the saffron flag. The Congress should publicly apologise to all Sanatani people,' he wrote. Meanwhile, Shyam Bhavarlal Sahu, an Indore-based businessman who was discharged from the case in December 2017, said that all the accused had been 'framed in a fabricated case'. 'I was framed under 25-30 charges in the case but we have received justice now. The Congress' conspiracy has been exposed. The party should apologise for its conspiracy, though I don't think it will,' Mr. Sahu said, speaking to news agency PTI. 'While I was in jail after my arrest, my elder brother Mohan Sahu used to come and support me during court appearances. During an appearance, he suffered a heart attack in front of my eyes and died about half-an-hour later. I could not do anything to save him,' said Mr. Sahu, who was arrested in October 2008.

Centre advises UP to assess Yamuna rubber dam's potential impact on Taj Mahal foundation
The Centre has advised the Uttar Pradesh government to scientifically assess the potential impact of the proposed Yamuna rubber dam on the Taj Mahal's foundation and structural integrity, Lok Sabha was told Thursday. The state government plans to construct the rubber dam 1.5 km downstream of the monument in Agra. A rubber dam is made of fabric coated with rubber. The height of the rubber dam can be adjusted by regulating the amount of water or air inside it. It is fixed on a concrete foundation and can be inflated or deflated to control the river's flow. In a written reply to Lok Sabha, Minister of State of Jal Shakti Raj Bhushan Choudhary said Uttar Pradesh's Irrigation and Water Resources Department has been 'advised to conduct a detailed scientific assessment & Hydro geological study of the potential impact of impounding water through the proposed rubber dam on the foundation and structural integrity of the Taj Mahal…' He said the state has also been asked to furnish details of a mechanism to ensure continuous flow in the river 'so as to tackle water quality'. 'Upon receipt of such proposals, NMCG (National Mission on Clean Ganga) undertakes a detailed examination to assess potential impacts on river morphology, ambient environment, structural integrity of the proposed structures, etc. before granting approval. This review also considers the status of statutory clearances obtained from relevant departments and agencies, as applicable,' the minister said in response to a question by BJP member Rajkumar Chahar. In March 2019, the Uttar Pradesh government had sought clearance for the project from the NMCG, which comes under the Jal Shakti Ministry. The same year, the state also moved a proposal seeking environmental clearance. According to the proposal, 28.975 hectares — comprising river areas, government land, barren land and agricultural land — are required for the dam and other facilities. In 2022, the Jal Shakti Ministry informed Rajya Sabha that as per the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) there was no threat to the stability of the foundation of Taj Mahal. 'Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has informed that there is no threat to the stability of the foundation of Taj Mahal. It is further informed by ASI that regular monitoring is done by ASI in this regard and that the monument is in a good state of conservation,' said Bishweswar Tudu, then Minister of State for Jal Shakti, in a written reply to Lok Sabha on August 1, 2022. Tudu's reply came in response to Rajya Sabha member Dr Ashok Bajpai, who had asked 'whether government is aware that for want of a dam/barrage on river Yamuna, there is a threat to the stability of the foundation of the iconic Taj Mahal'.

Mamata Banerjee announces hike in grant for Durga Puja committees to Rs 1.10 Lakh this year, over Rs 500 crore to be spent from exchequer
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday announced an allowance of Rupees 1.1 lakhs for each Durga Puja committee of the state. The government also spent more than Rupees 350 crores from the exchequer to this allowance last year. According to the state administration sources, the total number of enlisted Durga Puja committees in West Bengal is more than 45,000 and the state government will have to pay more than Rupees 500 crores for this allowance from the exchequer. Addressing a meeting of Durga Puja organisers, Banerjee said the decision aims to support the committees in organising Bengal's biggest festival and to acknowledge their contribution to cultural and community life. 'The government stands by the people. Durga Puja is not just a religious celebration; it is a cultural festival that unites everyone. We want to ensure the organisers can manage expenses without stress,' Banerjee said. The chief minister also announced, that like other years, Durga Puja Carnival will be held on October 5. Before that, on October 2, 3 and 4, immersion of the Durga idol should be completed. Last year, the Mamata Banerjee government gave Rupees 85,000 to each Puja committee and the amount was increased from 75,000 to 85,000. 'This year also, we got nothing in the budget (Central Budget). We are a poor state. However, we have decided to increase the allowance to 85 thousand. Next year will make it one lakh,' the chief minister said. However, this year she increased the allowance by Rupees 10,000 more, a cost of Rupees 50 crore more for the exchequer. The Chief Minister on Thursday also announced that like other years, this year also the Puja committees will have to pay nothing for any licenses including for a fire license. Last year, the puja committees got 75 per cent discount on electricity bill. This year, CM Banerjee said, electricity will be discounted to 80 per cent. A senior official of the Finance Department said, 'This is the last Durga Puja before the scheduled Assembly election in 2026. So, the ruling party wanted to attract Puja committees, to give them a hike of 25,000 from last year.' The allowance was Rupees 50,000 in 2021, which increased by Rupees 10,000 each in 2022 and 2023. Last year in 2024, it increased Rupees 15,000 and this year it increased Rupees 25,000. The Chief Minister also highlighted the hardships faced by Bengali-speaking individuals in various states across the country. My request to all Puja committees is that they should provide new garments to those who faced atrocities in different states for speaking in Bengali,' CM Banerjee said.
