The Hindu2 days ago
The responsibility of building a good society and shaping young learners lies with teachers, said Minister for School Education Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi here on Monday.
Mr. Poyyamozhi, along with Minister for Housing, Prohibition and Excise S. Muthusamy, inaugurated a five-day induction training programme for newly appointed graduate teachers at a private college in Thindal.
'A classroom is like a field, and students are the seeds sown. For these seeds to yield a good harvest, foundational education is absolutely essential,' Mr. Poyyamozhi said. The training includes modules on classroom observation, student engagement strategies, and several other essential teaching practices.
Stating that teachers are entrusted with the responsibility of nurturing students with the care of a parent, he urged them to make the most of the training. 'Even when children go on to pursue higher education and advance in life, it is the education you provide today that will serve as their foundation,' he said.
In his address, Mr. Muthusamy said the State government, under the leadership of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was giving top priority to education and healthcare. 'Schemes such as Pudhumai Penn, Thamizh Pudhalvan, and Naan Mudhalvan were launched to promote higher education. These initiatives have led to a significant increase in student enrollment in higher studies,' he noted.
He added that parents place their trust in teachers to shape their children's futures, and in doing so, teachers play a crucial role in nation-building. The Minister promised that any genuine demands raised by teachers for the academic welfare of students would be considered by the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister.
A total of 106 newly appointed graduate teachers from Erode district participated in the Monday's session, which is part of a state-wide training programme for 2,535 teachers. The sessions also cover psychological approaches to teaching, compassionate classroom practices, strategies to enhance learning outcomes, and the effective use of mobile applications introduced by the department.
Collector S. Kandasamy, MLAs A.G. Venkatachalam (Anthiyur) and V.C. Chandrakumar (Erode East), Mayor S. Nagarathinam, Deputy Mayor V. Selvaraj, and officials from the School Education Department were present.

Stalin woos youth, says DMK govt working for their uplift

Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin made a strong pitch to woo youth towards DMK in the upcoming assembly elections. He announced govt would start giving laptops to college students, countering AIADMK's charges of DMK halting the free laptop scheme. "Youth are the foundation of Tamil society. Primary goal of the Dravidian model govt is to enable growth of youth. This govt is for the youth," Stalin said on Wednesday after distributing appointment orders to around 2,300 youth recruited through state municipal administration department. "Since education alone is not enough, govt is creating job opportunities as well," Stalin said, adding that more than one lakh youth were given jobs through TNPSC, TRB and TNUSB, more than three lakh jobs were provided through Naan Mudhalvan scheme while another 2.65 lakh got employment through job fairs organised by labour department. As a result of 941 MoUs signed over the past four years, attracting 10lakh crore in investments, more than two lakh jobs have been generated, he said. Stalin said govt was also creating a conducive environment for attracting investments, which spurs economic growth resulting in job creation to benefit youth. "Peaceful ambience, proper maintenance of law and order, skillful youth, requisite infrastructure and schemes rolled out with foresight are helping TN remain on top," he said. Efforts have begun for generation of more jobs in Dravidian model govt 2.0 too after 2026, he added. Political analyst A Ramasamy said such initiatives consolidate DMK's support base. "Schemes such as Naan Mudhalvan mainly attract students from economically disadvantaged groups. These programmes targeting youth are helping the party consolidate its base," he said. However, professor and economist Krishna Raj said the job figures required closer scrutiny. "Filling one lakh govt vacancies is good. But where are the remaining jobs that were created? If these are in the industrial or informal sector, they may lack social security, insurance or benefits," he said.

Maharashtra to introduce NCC-style training from Class 1: Dadaji Bhuse

The Maharashtra government is planning to introduce training on the lines of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) from as early as Class 1, School Education Minister Dadaji Bhuse said on Tuesday. He held detailed discussions with senior NCC officials to explore the feasibility of this plan. At a meeting held at the Mantralaya, the discussion focused on expanding the NCC's reach across the state, the nature of the training, and the human resources required for it, a government release stated. The meeting was attended by School Education Department Principal Secretary Ranjit Singh Deol and Education Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh. 'As part of our effort to nurture national pride among students, this year's Independence Day celebrations will include patriotic-themed drills performed by students,' Bhuse said. He added that efforts would be made to increase the number of NCC training centres in the state and encourage more schools to participate. The state also plans to approach the central government for support in expanding the programme's reach. The minister further mentioned that retired army personnel could be enlisted to help train students, with support from the state's ex-servicemen welfare board. Maharashtra currently has 7 NCC groups and 63 units, covering 1,726 schools and colleges, with over 1.14 lakh students receiving training. They revealed that plans are in place to expand 10 more centres soon, which will add an additional 20,314 students to the programme.

Anbil Mahesh hopeful of SC relief after governor withholds assent to varsity bill

1 2 Trichy: School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi expressed his dissatisfaction after governor R N Ravi forwarded the Kalaignar University Bill to the President without offering any response. He said he hoped the Supreme Court would once again rule in favour of the state government. Addressing the media after a review meeting on Class 10 and 12 results in Mayiladuthurai, Anbil said, "He (the Governor) has forwarded it to the President without any responses. Every time, we are forced to take legal routes. Hopefully, the court delivers a favourable verdict." The bill, which proposes a university in Kumbakonam, has faced delays as the Governor chose to reserve it for the President's assent. Asked about former minister C V Shanmugam's petition in the Supreme Court seeking a ban on using chief minister M K Stalin 's name in state government schemes, dismissed by the court on Wednesday, Anbil said it was unfortunate that politics was being played over names instead of focusing on the benefits of the schemes. He pointed out that the government continues to retain names of former chief ministers M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa in schemes such as the Puratchi Thalaivar MGR Nutritious Meal Programme and Amma Unavagam. "He (Shanmugam) is playing politics either for attention or out of fear," the minister said. Anbil also expressed hope that Mayiladuthurai district would improve its academic performance in the coming years.
