NDC launches ICV programme
MUSCAT: The 9th parallel programme titled 'Mechanisms for Enhancing Local Content' kicked off on Sunday at the National Defence College (NDC) under the auspices of Rear Admiral Ali bin Abdullah al Shidi, Commandant of the National Defence College (NDC).
Al Shidi delivered a speech in which he said that enhancing local content (in-country value) in government, security and private sectors has become a strategic necessity imposed by global challenges and changes.
He added that success in achieving local added value can only be achieved through integrated policies, an integrative approach across various sectors, and continuous support for knowledge innovation, local industries and the localisation of supply chains.
A briefing was presented about the general objectives of the parallel programme, most notably highlighting the importance of enhancing ICV and its role in achieving sustainable development.
The programme also highlights key national, regional and international practices and experiences in the field of enhancing local content, as well as reviewing major challenges facing the government-society partnership. The event included recommendations and initiatives that enhance ICV and guide integrated policies and practices between various sectors in line with Oman Vision 2040.
The 9th parallel programme, which runs until May 22, 2025, is conducted within the framework of the NDC's national role to enhance the leadership skills and capabilities of government leaders and senior officers of the Sultan's Armed Forces (SAF). — ONA

Agreement signed to develop integrated bus public transport hub in Al Buraimi
Muscat - Al Buraimi Governorate and Mwasalat Company today signed a cooperation agreement to develop an integrated bus public transport hub in the Al Uqda Al Shamaliyah area of Al Buraimi Governorate. The project includes the development of a modern, integrated transport station spanning 56,000 square meters. The station will feature an eco-friendly design, offering intercity and intracity passenger transport services, along with advanced facilities such as a smart taxi station, a micro-mobility station, air-conditioned waiting halls, dedicated bus bays, transport operator offices, retail outlets, logistics facilities, and parking spaces for both cars and buses. The agreement was signed under the auspices of Eng. Khamis Mohammed Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology for Transport. Dr. Hamad Ahmed Al Busaidi, Governor of Al Buraimi, signed the agreement on behalf of the governorate, while Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Nadabi, CEO of Mwasalat, signed on behalf of the company. The agreement aims to enhance public transport infrastructure in the governorate and improve road transport services in line with Oman Vision 2040. It stipulates that Mwasalat will serve as the technical arm of the project, responsible for developing design standards, overseeing implementation, and operating and managing public transport facilities upon completion. Meanwhile, the governorate will allocate the necessary budget for infrastructure and facilitate administrative and regulatory procedures, including land-use adjustments and designating the station as the exclusive hub for mass transit services in the governorate. The Governor of Al Buraimi stated that the establishment of an integrated bus transport hub in the governorate will serve a large segment of public transport users and boost economic indicators. He noted that there are approximately 12 daily bus trips on the Muscat-Al Buraimi route, in addition to the route between Muscat and Abu Dhabi in the UAE, which passes through Al Buraimi Governorate. For his part, Eng. Badr Mohammed Al Nadabi, CEO of Mwasalat, explained that the agreement includes investment aspects, with a tender to be issued for investment in the station's development. Implementation is expected to begin within the next three months, with completion targeted within three years.

Pact inked to develop biogas project from organic waste
Muscat – Oman Environmental Services Holding Company (be'ah) and OQ Trading have signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop a national project focused on the production of biogas (biomethane) and bio-carbon dioxide from organic waste at landfills and future biofacilities managed by be'ah. The strategic partnership aims to transform environmental challenges into promising economic opportunities by harnessing approximately 20 million cubic metres of biogas extracted from be'ah-managed sites. The biogas is expected to comprise about 40% biomethane – a renewable fuel – and 60% bio-CO₂, both of which can be used in various sustainable industrial applications. Under the agreement, the two entities will work on a roadmap that includes technical and economic feasibility studies, infrastructure assessments, and identification of commercial marketing opportunities for the project's outputs. The initiative is expected to create local investment opportunities in line with the goals of Oman Vision 2040. Both companies affirmed that the collaboration represents an integrated model of national cooperation between the energy and environmental sectors. It brings together be'ah's expertise in waste and resource management with OQ Trading's global energy capabilities, strengthening Oman's position as a regional clean energy hub. Engineer Tariq Ali Al Amri, CEO of be'ah, described the project as a new milestone in energy recovery from organic waste through sustainable technologies. 'This initiative demonstrates how environmental challenges can be turned into developmental and economic opportunities. The production of biogas and bio-CO₂ will contribute to reducing emissions, improving waste management efficiency, and providing alternative energy sources,' he said. Said Talib Al Maawali, Executive Director for the Middle East at OQ Trading, called the project an attractive opportunity to diversify Oman's energy mix in support of the sultanate's carbon neutrality goals by 2050. 'This is a strategic nucleus for future waste-to-energy projects and will enhance clean energy value chains across the country,' he added. The project reflects Oman's broader commitment to sustainable development and low-carbon energy solutions in line with global trends and national objectives.

Oman presents commemorative plaque to WTO in Geneva
Muscat – Oman has gifted a commemorative plaque to World Trade Organization (WTO) to mark the visit of H H Sayyid Bilarab bin Haitham al Said to its headquarters in Geneva on June 21, 2023. Created by Omani artist Salem bin Khamis al Salami, the plaque is a symbolic representation of Oman's civilisational heritage, natural diversity and its future development vision. It was created under the supervision of Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion in collaboration with Omani Society for Arts, which is affiliated to Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth. Presentation of the plaque reflects Oman's approach to cultural diplomacy and its growing engagement with international institutions. H E Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion, said, 'This initiative reflects Oman's commitment to promoting cultural exchange and building international partnerships through the arts.' He also praised H H Sayyid Bilarab's role in promoting art as a means of global communication. H E Sayyid Said bin Sultan al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Culture in Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, described the gift as a 'cultural and civilisational statement' aligned with Oman Vision 2040. H E Idris bin Abdulrahman al Khanjari, Oman's Permanent Representative to United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, emphasised the diplomatic significance of the gesture. The plaque is now displayed in WTO's Salle des Pas Perdus, a space reserved for artwork that celebrate dialogue and multilateral cooperation.
