Shweta Patil and her husband Sachin Patil have visited several idol workshops, but they haven't found a single Ganesh idol of their choice that fit their budget. They said, "This year idols which were for Rs2000 are costing Rs3500 or Rs4000. We have visited nearly all kumbhar gallis, but haven't found an idol of choice in our budget."
Artisans said govt revoked the ban on pop idols late, causing confusion as to whether or not to make the idols.
Artisan Murli Majgaonkar said: "Mandals members are coming for idols of heights between 7ft to 21ft, but as the festival is very near, we are not taking orders. This is indirectly our loss"
The demand from traders from Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Goa has increased this time, further adding to the shortage.
Pawan Kumbhar, an artisan from Shiroli kumbhar galli, said: "Traders from other states are arriving in large numbers and have already purchaed 50% of ready Ganesh idols."

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis to inaugurate dabbawallahs' museum in Bandra today
MUMBAI: The classic dabbawallah dressed in white kurta pyjama and Gandhi cap embodies a tradition that is older than Ganeshotsav. The tiffin service began in 1890 while public Ganesh celebrations started in 1893. The fire may be spent but the embers still glow. The dabbawallah community is still proud of the profession which transports home-cooked meals to students and office goers amid modern day food app deliveries. From handcarts to bicycles and public trains, their journey is one of swift, well coded efficiency. On Thursday chief minister Devendra Fadnavis will inaugurate a museum dedicated to the dabbawallahs of Mumbai that showcases their 135-year history and trade practices. The Dabbawallah International Experience Centre, as it is called, is located near Rizvi College, Bandra. It includes plaques and installations, and a portrait of Mahadevrao Bachche, who founded the business. Funds were sanctioned by Fadnavis and MLA Shrikant Bharti facilitated the setup. Another union leader Ulhas Muke said the museum spans the history as well as prospects of the trade led by its Six Sigma rating that is an example to businesses worldwide. The dabbawallahs have been included in the IIM syllabus and given TedX Talks and lectures in universities abroad, apart from famously being appreciated by King Charles and invited to royal weddings in the UK. Another union leader Subhash Talekar said, "We appreciate the CM for his monetary grant for this museum. I feel he should walk the talk and grant affordable homes for a sum of Rs 10 lakh to dabbawallahs instead of Rs 25 lakh that they are currently allotted in Bhiwandi. Our boys barely earn Rs 20,000 per month. How can they afford Rs 25 lakh homes, and which bank will grant them loans?" Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). 19th century Indumati Palace to be flanked by upscale apartments
Vadodara: The 145-year-old Indumati Palace is a landmark of the city. Owned by royal scion Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad, it will soon be flanked by upscale apartments. The Gaekwads have decided to develop the Indumati Palace premises, located opposite the grand Laxmi Vilas Palace, into a residential and commercial complex. "This will be the first residential complex in the country to have a majestic palace. Six 12-storey buildings will be built on the premises — two to the left of the palace, two to the right and two behind it. The project won't affect the palace's aesthetics and heritage value," Pratapsinhrao told TOI over the phone from Mumbai. "We will restore the palace and turn it into a clubhouse with recreational amenities exclusively for residents. We plan to launch the project during the Ganesh festivities this month. The apartments will be ready in three years," said Pratapsinhrao, whose Baroda Crown Holdings Pvt Ltd has joined hands with Johnson Real Estate Pvt Ltd for the project. A retail space is also planned in what is now the front yard of the palace. "We will have our own residential space and an office in one of these buildings. After the project is complete, I will be in Vadodara frequently and will work from here," he added. The Indumati Palace was built by Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III and was later named after his granddaughter, Indumati Raje. The palace was home to the royal collection of books along with the Gaekwad royal offices. The Gaekwads would celebrate the Ganesh festival by installing the idol at the Indumati Palace before the venue was shifted to the Durbar Hall of the Laxmi Vilas Palace in 1967. When possession of Indumati Palace went to Pratapsinhrao in 2014, he decided to restart the Ganesh festivities there. "We will continue installing the Ganesh murti in the Indumati Palace in the coming years. It's our family tradition that will always be followed," Pratapsinhrao added. This is the second major project taken up by Pratapsinhrao in the city after the Nazarbaug Palace shopping mall near Mandvi Gate.
