Andy Bell is working with Vince Clarke on a new Erasure album

Perth Now11-05-2025
Andy Bell has confirmed that he and Vince Clarke are working on a new Erasure album.
The 61-year-old singer explained that the synth-pop duo will release their first album since 2020's 'The Neon' and admits that it will be particularly poignant following the death of Clarke's wife Tracy Hurley Martin from stomach cancer last year.
Andy told Gold Derby: "So many things have happened in between, for Vince especially.
"We've visited each other. I had some songs sent by Vince to me, and then we got together, started writing. We haven't finished. We are meeting again in August, so we want to get it right. We want the right feeling, and we'll know. ... We are a family.
"And I'm going to call him after this (interview), because I want him to know that we are here. I'm here. He's not the easiest person to get through to, but we've had some really lovely conversations since. So, yeah, I love him."
Andy came out as gay long before Erasure started having hits in the 1980s but felt that the 'A Little Respect' hitmakers weren't taken as seriously by critics as they weren't as political as other queer acts at the time such as Bronski Beat.
He explained: "Jimmy Somerville was at the forefront for me. He was a foot soldier, and I felt like I was kind of in the background because we were vocal, but not as political.
"But I kind of felt like the appeal to the ordinary man or woman, you just made (homosexuality) a normal-conversation kind of thing. Therefore, I would never go in the front in marches, which seems a bit cowardly – but I didn't want to be arrested! But we did the die-ins and all those kinds of things for Stonewall."
Andy admits that it was "really scary" being out as attitudes towards homosexuality were very different at Erasure's peak.
He said: "It was very scary. Even performing in the US at that time, you just didn't know what was going to happen at any time.
"Sometimes I was grateful that we weren't played on the radio, because I didn't want my profile to be that high that everybody knew all at once. So, maybe I was slightly 'closeted' in my being out."

Latte art champion opens new cafe in trendy Perth suburb

He's not quite Willy Wonka, but Perth latte art champion Andy Tseng can contort oat milk coffee foam into a dragon, soy into a swan, and etch your favourite footy team's logo into a frothy matcha film. The caffeine craftsman has worked as a barista and coffee trainer for years in popular local hangouts, including La Veen in the CBD, and Dark Star in Osborne Park. However, it's Andy's latest Wembley-based venture alongside fiance June Li, a former marketing executive, that he's most proud of. The couple are preparing to celebrate the grand opening of Andune Coffee Studio this weekend, inviting the community inside for a taste of their new project. Just like its name is a combination of theirs, Andune is part cafe, part training centre, no walk-ins, and entirely what you want it to be. Quality over quantity, always,' they told PerthNow. The intimate space is fully equipped to host anything from work bonding sessions, to intimate beginner coffee classes with friends, and advanced barista courses. All certified, of course, should you want proof those hours perfecting your favourite brew were not just a caffeinated dream. Think paint & sip, but make it coffee. With Andy immigrating from Taiwan aged 10, and June relocating from China to study in Perth, the pair bring their cross-cultural experiences to the coffee scene and promise an interactive approach to their classes under Andy's guidance. 'We genuinely believe our combined backgrounds bring something fresh to WA's coffee scene — not just in flavour, but in energy, perspective, and the kind of care we want people to feel when they walk in,' they said. He was eventually appointed to head barista, and fell in love latte art by teaching himself, and testing his skills in competition. After multiple successes in WA and South Australia, Andy has switched to the judging side in recent years, and even opened a cafe during COVID. However, he knew his next challenge would something a little different. 'I always wanted to do a coffee bar, but I knew Perth wasn't ready for something like this,' he said, admitting he 'lacked the courage to do it'. Andy Tseng's latte art. Credit: Andune Coffee Studio With Andy and June checking out Melbourne's scene earlier this year for inspiration, they realised their model was far from cookie cutter. But that gave them more motivation to get started. 'It's not your usual cafe, it's a very new concept, but we're excited because there's so much opportunity to branch out,' Andy added. They plan to offer tastings of unique coffee beans from around the world, run community events, sell merchandise, and even arrange doggy meet-ups. Opening to the public this weekend, Andune Coffee Studio is asking coffee-lovers to follow their noses inside and experience signature drinks re-imagined, intimate workshops, and even a live-action latte unicorn or two. This time, walk-ins are welcome. Although it's best reserve your spot to avoid missing out. Andune Coffee Studio is located at 1/357 Cambridge St, Wembley.

Andy Cohen was 'disaster' shooting And Just Like That cameo

Andy Cohen was a "disaster" shooting his And Just Like That cameo. The Watch What Happens Live presenter made a brief appearance as a Bergdof Goodman employee named Daniel in the latest episode of the show and though he only had one line of diaglogue in the scene with Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw, he still struggled. Speaking on his SiriusXM show, Andy said: "I think the line in the script was just like, 'Oh hey, Carrie, I'll be with you in a sec.' "Shooting these shows for me is very difficult. You have to literally walk four steps, say your line at a particular spot, and then keep going. There's a lot of blocking involved, and I just don't — I'm not good at it." After a few attempts, showrunner Michael Patrick King changed Andy's line to: "Hey, Carrie, I'm slammed, I'll be with you in a minute." However, the broadcaster was reprimanded for his intense delivery. He admitted: "When I tell you that I was marching out like, 'Carrie, I am slammed! I'm gonna be with you in a minute!' "And Michael Patrick King comes over after we do it twice and he goes, 'Um, this is a really pivotal scene for Carrie.' He didn't tell me, but now I know that she just had a big fight with Aiden." Michael told Andy: "You're stealing focus from Carrie. The episode title should now be called Daniel's Busiest Day. And it's not about Daniel's Busiest Day, keep it on Carrie!'" Andy also received advice from Sarah. He added: "It was very specific and I was saying it in the wrong place. I was just a disaster. But it was so funny, the idea that it was 'Daniel's Busy Day.'" The 57-year-old producer joked that the scene used was "the best they could get". The scene marked a call-back to Andy's previous appearance on Sex and the City, having played a then-unnamed shoe salesman during the sixth season, with Entertainment Weekly confirming was the same character. But Andy also had another cameo earlier in the original programme's run. He shared a screenshot in 2018 and wrote on Instagram: "You may know that I was a Barney's shoe salesman in the last season of #SATC but were you aware I appeared in Season 4 (I think) shirtless in a gay bar standing next to Carrie Bradshaw? (sic)" However, that scene was cut from TV but can be seen in the DVD.

Neighbours blast ‘disgusting' Andy Byron as ex-Astronomer CEO's wife hides out in $2.4 million mansion

Former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and his wife Megan Kerrigan Byron's neighbors find his alleged infidelity 'disgusting' but believe the family deserves 'privacy' as they navigate overnight fame and heartbreak. Those who live in the pair's Kennebunk, Maine, neighborhood told the Daily Mail Thursday — just over a week after Andy's alleged affair with an employee was exposed at a Coldplay concert — that 'everyone has seen' the viral 'kiss cam' video. 'The family do not want to talk about it,' one angry local explained before asking the outlet to leave the exclusive street next to the Webhannet Golf Club. According to the Daily Mail, Megan fled the duo's $1.4 million home in Northborough, Mass., and has been hiding out at their $2.4 million Maine mansion while holding crisis talks about her marriage. Multiple family members were seen going in and out of the four-bedroom, four-bathroom, 4,169-square-foot property over the weekend, including her older sister, Maura, per the outlet. It's unclear whether Andy, 50, came to speak to Megan, also 50, following the incident. Last Wednesday, while at the Coldplay concert in Boston, Andy and Kristin Cabot, a top HR executive at Astronomer, were caught canoodling on the big screen. 'Whoa, look at these two,' frontman Chris Martin exclaimed into the mic. However, once the couple noticed they were on the jumbotron, Andy let out a 'f–king hell, it's me' and immediately ducked out of view, while Cabot, who acknowledged that 'this is awkward,' hid her face in embarrassment. 'Either they're having an affair, or they're just very shy,' the musician joked as the audience erupted in laughter. A TikTok of the moment spread like wildfire online, prompting Megan to remove her married name from her Facebook page before deleting her account altogether. Astronomer's Board of Directors then launched an investigation into the matter, which resulted in both Andy and Cabot — who is also married — being placed on leave. Andy resigned over the weekend.
